I've posted this for traffic.

I have bad anxiety with crowds and queues but I need to go into town tomorrow to pick up a few things from click and collect.

Obviously, news of maybe a national lockdown being announced on Monday.

Will people be flocking to the shops.

YABU - yes I'm going to do Christmas shopping tomorrow.
YANBU - No I'm not going to

OP posts:
nosswith · 31/10/2020 07:14

Rain may reduce numbers, but YANBU to be concerned at the possibility.

goggygill · 31/10/2020 07:22

Why the Christmas panic now??!

I don't get it either

It's only October, and online shopping will exist regardless, as will supermarkets.

yep

Do some people have a compulsive need to shop or panic buy?

I think they must.

DaddysGirlForLife · 31/10/2020 07:24

I've done all my Christmas shopping but its no different from any other year for me. I start in Aug and finish end of Oct. I've even wrapped it all. Haha.

nicerbeing · 31/10/2020 07:30

@myhobbyisouting

No, it won't be carnage. I'm in an area that has been in tier 3 for weeks and there wasn't carnage or panic buying then. We have delivery slots for food and shelves are stocked.

Try and think rationally and if you need shopping then don your mask, take a list and go to the shops

But, shops didn't close? This is a situation where shops will close. Non comparable.

goggygill · 31/10/2020 07:34

I normally start xmas shopping after half term. I may even start it later now as it's not like I will have anything fun to look forward to in Dec ☹️

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 31/10/2020 07:40

I'm so over shopping . I went last Sunday it was horrible , coat and mask on feeling boiling hot having hot flushes. I always seem to be in trouble but knowing which way I'm supposed to walk ,staff barking at me like they are the SS and old people following me , stopping when I stop and moving when I walk like I'm.being stalked by zombies
No thanks

How do people book online slots so far ahead for groceries? It only ever shows me the next two weeks!

MarinPrime · 31/10/2020 07:54

Christmas shopping is low on my priorities, no one will die if we don't have the usual festivities.
I just want to make sure everyone stays healthy.

Sweetpea84 · 31/10/2020 07:54

Done all the kids presents already as had a feeling. It’s not so much being able to get to shops it was more so for stock levels and being able to get hold of certain toys.

RishiMcRichface · 31/10/2020 07:55

After the thing in Wales with not letting supermarkets sell "non essential" goods I can see people flocking to the toilet roll section again.

Agreed!
goggygill · 31/10/2020 08:02

I used to work in buying, I don't really understand the buy all xmas presents in Aug/Sept as not all the stock will be in the shops by then.

I think people don't feel as though it's guaranteed that online shopping will exist regardless. Certainly March onwards this was not the case. I couldn't get shoes for my daughter or summer clothes for quite some time.
Ohfrigginghellers · 31/10/2020 08:05

OMG I haven't done any Christmas shopping yet

I have Tesco delivery saver and can see slots up to 27th November. Waitrose, I can see up to 20th November
piscis · 31/10/2020 08:09

Why would there be a problem with Christmas shopping? Amazon were operating as normal during the first lockdown and you can buy pretty much everything from Amazon

MrsClatterbuck · 31/10/2020 08:12

It's actually blowing a gale here and has been all night. So I might light the fire and batten down the hatches.

Splodgetastic · 31/10/2020 08:13

So I’m guessing non-essential retail is going to be closed?

Ihaveyourback · 31/10/2020 08:13

We have nearly two months until Christmas, it will be fine.

Splodgetastic · 31/10/2020 08:18

It’s not right to shut local shops and let online retailers stay open. They had better not do that, although it would be a massive inconvenience.

RedRiverShore · 31/10/2020 08:19

Yes, I shopped there all the way through, I use them lots anyway as I pay £79 a year for it, many on MN won't use Amazon though.
Lovemusic33 · 31/10/2020 08:20

I went Christmas shopping Monday/Tuesday as had a feeling this would happen, I bought all my stocking fillers and a few gifts, the rest can be done online. I wouldn’t want to be going out shopping today.

Newmummy1234 · 31/10/2020 08:25

We’ve done our children and went yesterday to finish. It was mayhem yesterday! But at least they are done. Everyone else can wait if needed!
