To be upset that dd1 has been let down twice over her birthday.

DD1 is very close friends with my cousins little girl, who is 9 weeks older than her.We are a close family & live nearby to each other & have a family business in common.DD1 & her cousin 'S' play together a lot.

We couldn't attend 'S's'birthday party as we had to go up north & see MIL,I explained this to my cousin & she seemed fine about it.Last Saturday,we had a little party for DD1 who is 4 today,S was invited but did not turn up,neither did anyone ring to explain why.I took some cake around later & was told by my cousin, that she'd kind of forgotten about it & had to work anyway. Then she added 'well you didn't come to our birthday party,we didn't come to yours,so now were even!'

The next day,my cousin rang to ask DD1 to p,lay, but it was 4pm & we were expecting guests,so I said, sorry, she couldn't,explained about the guests, but asked i8f S would like to come around today,DD1's birthday to play?Cousin said'so she won't be coming to play today then?'I said no,cousin said,ok,I'll bring S round on Wednesday afternoon, with DD1's presents.

Guess what, its nearly 3pm & no S.I just feel that this is tit for tat.I know S is capable of having huge tantrums if things don't go her way & probably kicked off on Sunday after being told that they wouldn't be playing together, but that isn't my fault.I can't believe that someone would deliberately let down a 4 year old. What is worse, they both start school tomorrow & I'll come face to face with my cousin & will feel I have to say something.

Poor DD1,I could cry for her.

Isn't there someone else you could invite?

Rise above it.
When you do see her next, just say something like "Oh, DS1 was so disappointed when S didn't come over yesterday, was she not feeling well?"
Do not let your cousin see you are annoyed, maybe she's got pmt?
