AIBU to contact Social services about a neighbour

Long and short of it is her 4 kids came over to mine today...said their mum was asleep and they couldn't wake her...they climbed out the back window to get out the house as couldn't find the keys. Mum also had a 1 year old in there also asleep the kids thought. They asked to have dinner with us in case they couldn't wake their mum later. When I took them home it took a good half hour of banging on the door to rouse the mum,she had no idea the kids weren't in the house. Would I be totally inappropriate to contact SS and if I did would they tell her who it was?

Maybe it was a very long sleep as her child aged two years whilst she was sleeping 🤷‍♀️

Telling a random caller you are aware of a family/person is a major breach of confidentiality. I cannot believe this would happen in the way described. That’s not to say it never happens but it’s highly unlikely.

Turns out it was a 3yo, but don't you think it's more likely that people would call ss/police because children climbed out of a window and asked a neighbour to help them as mummy wouldn't wake up?
I'd be on to the police as soon as she didn't answer the door.

As usual, MN'etters are focusing on trivialities instead of the possible seriousness of the situation!! OP said the children thought the baby was 1 (not the OP). Then in a later post it turned out the baby was 3, but the children called her the baby. Also, SS do inform concerned callers that they are aware of the family because I have previously been told this, as have some other PP's.

Whether the child was a 1 year old or 3 year old doesn’t stop you from being tired

I have ignored people knocking on the door when I have had a nap in the day time.

If she thought all the kids were in the house she had no reason to get up.

That mum having a sleep could be comatose from drugs, like my brothers ex with his kids in the house.
Ring SS and then let them decide if it warrants further action

To be honest, reminds me of the time when my child was on the ss radar (yeah thanks, ex p with your allegations... all quashed thank goodness).
She was three months old, I had gone for a nap with her next to me on the Moses basket with an alarm set for an hour's time (phone on silent). I can't hear the front door from my bedroom.
He couldn't get hold of me (because, I was, you know, sleeping, as a new mother and newly single). Because he is an arse, he decided to call the police and ss. Ss came round and I was asleep and my dog was in the garden (else she would have barked...) I ended up with the police and ss banging on my door, demanding entry and stating that there was a CP issue because I hadn't answered the door. Because I was asleep. Not drunk, on drugs or anything untoward. Just fucking asleep!

3 of whom seem to think that climbing out of the window and running around to the neighbours, saying they tried to wake their mother but couldn’t and can they have dinner with you.

They couldn’t have been that concerned for their mother if they were planning on you giving them dinner.

We don’t actually know how hard they tried to wake her. We have only their word that they even tried.

They could have stood outside her door and whispered mummy a few times then decided that constituted trying to wake her

I am thinking they wanted a snack and decided you were a soft touch and now you are going to bring in SS. Give the woman a break.

Mother probably said that she was having a nap and not to disturb her.

Who is honestly going to think 'ah, probably fine' in that scenario?

Next time a toddler calls 999 to say mummy won't wake up, I hope the operator explains that mummies get very, very tired and just need a nap sometimes.
