Just for fun, in AIBU for traffic;what does an average go like for you?
Mine goes something like;
6.50 get up get dressed and ready for work.(clothes set out previous night)
7.10 wake up DC and get breakfast/finish my make up.
7.30 get and help DC dressed, teeth brushed, hair brushed etc.
7.50/8.00 finish lunches if necessary/put all necessary bags and lunches in the car, and sort out washing machine on a timer.
8.10/8.15(latest) leave house
8.20/8.25 drop DC to school/Montessori
8.25 go to work
9.00-2.40 work (I’m a teacher so these are my contact/school hours)
2.40-3.00/3.10 sort out some planning/photocopying etc
3.00/3.10 leave work
3.30/3.40 collect DC
3.50/4.00 home
4.00-5.30/6.00 this is our free time so it varies depending on day or weather , take DD to swim lesson/gymnastics/etc or light the fire and stay home or go to the park/visit friend/family for an hour. And also make dinner
5.30/6.00 dinner time
6.00-6.30 DC play for half hour
6.30 bath/get ready for bed. Listen to DD read.
7.00-7.15 bedtime
7.15....get all bags and lunches (most of) ready for the next day, set out clothes and uniforms for the next day.

My DH Works away for weeks at a time so this is a day when he is away.

God my work life looks so easy. I’m not even going to tell you all!

Your day looks amazing OP! Mine is generally:

5:15 awake/shower/ do make up and hair
6:30 leave for work (DH does kids)
7:30 arrive at work (bloody traffic!)
5pm (or 8pm if I need to work late to catch up on bits) - leave work
6:30 home (if didn't work late) - DH does kids in eve too
6:45 bath kiddies
7pm put kids to bed
7:30 cook
8pm Eat dinner
9pm get clothes and bags laid out for next day/ clean kitchen etc
10pm go to bed

It's exhausting at times and I feel like DH has to take the lions share of drop off and pick up etc. due to my work being a commute and his being local. I look forward to weekends with family a lot and I do love my job so it's not all doom and gloom!

I waonder what salaries some people are earning for these hours. I regularly work more than 60hpw but I earn a shade over 6 figures.

My GP practice has published £78k as the aveage GP salary. Of 20 partners, two are full time. The other 18 work between 4 and 1 day pw.

I'd quite like £78k for 0.6 to 0.7FTE of my 65 hours pw.

I think the average GP, Accountant, Lawyer cannot be equated with the unrealistic expectations that presently prevail for teachers.

I get up at 0625 and leave house when everyone else is asleep I shower the night before so literally just put my make up and clothes on and leave the house.

I’m normally on the 0655 or the 0705 train to London which means I arrive at my desk just after 0830. The first thing I do is have a coffee. If baby wakes up I have to get the later 0725 train as I have to look after him until DH wakes up at 0645.

I try to do all my emails and to do list on the train as my days are usually full of meetings I might only have 2 hours in which to do actual work. I don’t usually bother with breakfast but I’m usually feeling hungry about 11 so will have a banana and then an early lunch about 1230 usually soup.

I try and leave by five which means I’m home for six thirty. This train journey is supposed to be my me time but I usually have some urgent office work to do.

Sometimes I have to jump in the car and pick a child up from club before heading home to relieve the nanny. If I’m later I have to pile all the kids in the car with me which is stressful.

The baby is supposed to have had a bath, pets fed (by kids not nanny) and all the music practice/ homework done. This doesn’t always happen though so I end up doing it / yelling at people till it happens.

I then cook dinner and put kids to bed. DH comes home about 1945 and we eat. Usually end up going to bed past 11.

Luckily I only have to do this two days as I only work three days a week and do one from home!

Up at 6am, get showered and dressed and out at 7am. Arrive work 730. Half hour lunch break. Leave work 5.30 or 6pm. Home between 6 to 630 pm. Eat dinner, play with DS. Then either bath and put DS to bed or walk dog, do hoovering and dishes and prep packed lunch. Get clothes ready for the morning. Sit down about 9pm. Go to bed at 10pm

DH works shorter hours, so he gets DS ready and dropped at nursery and also collects him again. I batch cook at weekends, so DH usually heats dinner / cooks pasta / rice when I’m on way home from work.

Up at 6am with puppy; empty dishwasher, put washing on, make lunch and pack work bag, feed dogs. 7am shower/hair. Dressed then walk dogs 7.30am until 8.15am, then home for breakfast and leave at 8.30am. Dogs come to work with me. Work 9am to around 4pm with a break for lunch to walk dogs again and feed puppy. Home by 4.30pm, walk dogs for around half an hour and then cook tea, tidy house, feed dogs and bring washing in. Sit down around 7pm after eating and breathe a sigh of relief.

Luckily I only work 3 days but the other 2 are taken up with looking after grandkids, doing all the housework and taking my elderly father to more and more hospital appointments............. Hmm.

Can i come and work in your school? What a dream.
Saturday I was so tired from the week I ended up falling asleep at 3pm ( I do admit this is rare but the planning reports and meetings caught up with me this week). I spent Sunday morning planning. I still have so much to do! Im taking a 15 minute break before finishing off.

My work day:

6.30 up and get ready
6.45 get children up and ready
7 leave house everything else has been packed and ready night before
7.10 eldest child drop off
7.20 second. Hold drop off
7.35 arrive at school (and I’m a later one)
8.40- children come in I will now not break at all until 3.30 when children leave
3.35- photocopy and mark
5- leave school
9- start working again

I need a new school! Or a new job!

@Sunshineandalltherainbows in all honesty I have often thought how doing a “wife swap” style programme with teachers all over the world would be an AMAZING programme!! “Teacher swap!” It would be great for Evey to see/understand how other countries do it! Run a school, funding, teaching methods, behaviour, parents attitudes, hours, pay, the pros, the cons, etc etc I would l LOVE IT!
