Hello, Mumsnetters. I'm on the lookout for a very chocolately, rich, and indulgent hot chocolate mix.

The Cadbury one in the purple tin just isn't satisfying my craving (pregnant, maybe that's why), and although I do enjoy making it from a bar of chocolate, that feels like lots more calories than a mix would be.

So, give me your recommendations for a really special treat, please :)

I admit I just buy whatever's on offer usually, I got Galaxy frothy as a PP mentioned from Aldi yesterday and it was the best one I have tried in ages

I find the Aero one or Options to be great :) Or indulge in a nice melty chocolate stir in thing!

Hotel Chocolat, or Twinings Swiss for the cheaper option.

If you can get hold of it, there's a Swiss one called Caotina. I've seen it very occasionally in deli's and boutique supermarkets here. It's AMAZING. And Swiss. If anyone knows how to do good hot chocolate it's the Swiss.

The Twinings Swiss is usually on offer in Aldi at this time of year and I have found the Spanish Chocolate Company one there too (although I find that one a bit sweet for me)

Sometimes I mix nesquik and coffee and tell myself it's okay because now it's a mocha.

Microwave a mugs worth of milk until hot in a jug and then add one bar of Aldi moser Roth dark chocolate. Leave to melt for a min and then put a whisk in the jug and roll between your hands until thoroughly combined. Drink through straws made of choc finger biscuits with the ends bitten off Wink

I use grated chocolate in hot milk then top up with frothed hot milk, topped with mini marshmallows.

I've been adding homemade gingerbread or peppermint syrup or cointreau..

There is a Mexican hot chocolate called Ibarra you should be able to buy online, Has a bit of a spicy kick. Plus it’s good fun to make, comes in these solid discs which you have to break into segments and then melt a segment into a pan of milk

You need to make Italian hot chocolate. Wonderful, thick stuff you need to eat with a spoon

Cocoa powder, hot milk and sugar to taste. No palm oil worries and the packaging is usually plastic free as well.

Add chilli powder, or vanilla essence or anything else you can think of.

Green and Black's is very good if you want an actual hot chocolate brand.

The clipper one :)

BUT my best tip for making ANY hot chocolate better is this:

Put the powder in your mug. Boil the kettle. Add a bit of milk to the powder and stir into a paste. Then, add your boiling water and keep stirring.

It will taste SOOO much better than with water alone :)

Raw cacao powder’s the best! Then it’s healthy (allegedly) and super chocolate tasting.

Hotel Chocolat all the way! It’s not cheap (£9 per tin) but it’s the best I’ve had! If you have a Hotel Chocolat cafe near you (yes you heard me right) you can order one with a mountain of chocolate cream on top. It’s A—MAZ-ING but I refuse to think of the calorie count 😱

Be warned, they have many flavours, including salted caramel and clementine and a new Christmas Gingerbread flavour. Though Classic is my personal favourite.
