AIBU?

TO NOT WANT FUCKING AMAZON PRIME?

herecomesthsun · 02/11/2017 20:46

I did not even click for it! And it appears impossible to unsubscribe!

This happened a couple of years ago and I eventually found a phone number that worked, but, hey, it was a lot of work and why should I have to go to a load of trouble?

I do not want FUCKING FUCKING Amazon Prime, I do not want it in a boat, I do not want it on a train, I do not want it in the rain...
Angry

And yes yes it is my fault for using Amazon, maybe I should give up Amazon.

You shouldn’t have to google “how to unsubscribe” for anything. But that’s how they’ve made it.

my husband accidentally signed up to this at the weekend and swears there was no way not to

You just have to ignore the giant brightly coloured button that shouts 'CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE and sign up to Amazon Prime' and look for the tiny writing on on a background that pales into the main page and says 'click here to continue without all the wonderful benefits of Prime' in tiny writing.

They do push it quite a bit, and you have to watch what you are doing instead of just blindly clicking on the most prominent button right in front of you, but to be fair, it is piss easy to cancel if you don't want to pay for it.

I opt in and out all the time, depending on what deals are available and have never signed up accidentally because I know that Amazon, and many other websites design their pages to sell you things you might not intend to buy, so I take the time to make sure I am aware of what I am doing and not mindlessly click on the big flashing 'special offers here' button, because there's nearly always a catch.

Dimples, how did you post an image, please? I want to show everybody who seems to doubt my sanity that I do not have the end membership option.
It does not exist on account.

I don't have a beef with you but this would have to be the 10th time on this thread where people have suggested the exact same thing
The end membership is not there, because they want a new credit card number from need first.
So the "simple" process everybody says works if and only if you have a valid account from which they can deduct funds. I'm not prepared to put in a valid account just to close the membership why did I have to rush paying just to close it when I haven't even used it.
There should be a way to close membership without giving credit card details.

yanbu, my husband accidentally signed up to this at the weekend and swears there was no way not to. Unsubscribing didn't work but an irate email to customer services did.

@benmess

  1. Log into your account,
  2. Then go to the top left of your screen in the dropdown box click on 'Account'
  3. Scroll down and click on 'Prime membership"
  4. On the next screen click on 'Manage membership' (it's just under your name at the top)
  5. Select the 3rd option - Manage - membership - update your settings
  6. Select End Membership

Hope this helps, good luck

Just go on the live chat. Amazon have always sorted out any issues I have in no time over live chat.

Well I'm glad all of you can do it all so easily. If I could post a screen shot here I would but I DO NOT HAVE THE UNSUBSCRIBE LINK. It is not there. All I have is a way to update my payment method. It is probably because I have no payment methods because I deleted them all to stop them taking any more payments.
So good luck to all you out there but it is impossible for me to unsubscribe. I have to wait until Amazon does it on my behalf, or I have to add a new payment method and maybe the button will then appear. But I'm not prepared to do that and get charged for something I don;t want.
Anyway, I've wasted enough time with stupid Amazon.

@benmess Every single trial will charge your card if you don't cancel. Obviously if you don't cancel they assume that you are happy with and willing to pay for the service. Amazon are not the only ones who do this. That's on you.

Like others have said it is INCREDIBLY easy, I just went through it on my PHONE to see how easy it is.

Your account > Prime membership > manage membership > Update your settings > end membership.

Takes a total of less than 10 seconds to end up on the end membership page.

benmess · 19/11/2019 04:57

Everybody says how easy it is, well I DO NOT HAVE an unsubscribe button, despite what everybody says. All I have is "Update Payment". They get you by offering a free trial but conveniently neglect to tell you that that means they will charge a credit card associated with your account even if you do not use any of the services. The only reason I found out was because they couldn't continue charging me because I lost my credit card and cancelled it. If a person did this to you on the street or in a retail outlet, it would be considered a scam. Just because you have millions of resources at your disposal and hide everything in tiny print or make it impossible to check things doesn't mean you are not scamming people.

It would more likely be phishers knowing that loads of people use Prime.

@MissTakexxx,

If hackers are getting through that then it's not amazon that are at fault. I'd vet good money that your computer (phone) isn't secure or it's someone who knows you well enough to predict what you'll use. Run a good security check on your computer. I bet it finds something.

After the month's free trial they charged him the full whack from his account. He had no idea and went to the bank to get money out and he was in overdraft!

Are you in the U.K.? Why would a bank let a 14 year old have an overdraft??

But hate the way I'm asked about AmazonPrime every 5 fucking seconds.

And in that manipulative way of SO many businesses now, the "no" is in tiny, tiny writing. You could easily click "yes" by mistake.

Yes, completely agree with you, it's infuriating to feel that you are constantly being pressured or even tricked into doing something you don't want. It's the way with so many things now, unfortunately.

I luuuurve Amazon Prime. I wouldn't be without it. I'm not sure always get my money's worth some years, but overall, for sheer convenience and reliability it's been fabulous.

herecomesthsun- I agree with your last post. I love Amazon prime, but have had my fair share of trouble with them.
But also found, once you reach the complaint pages issues are usually quickly resolved. (Latest issue was DC buying TV programme via kindle despite it being pin protected AND on a child profile. They did refund me in full & we still have the digital content. Which proofs that you have to be super vigilant with them!)

for clarity, Booking.com said "free reservation". Er, it wasn't (and I'm very particular about these things - it clearly was a lie). £ taken out of my account immediately. A whole frigging drama with the bastards at Booking.com - and they really were bastards - to put this right. Had to threaten legal action and they wouldn't even give me their main office to send court action to! Would never use them again. My new strategy - Just use their bastard service to get a rough rate of possible bookings in area. Then book direct with the hotel Smile who don't have to pay Booking.com's shitty premiums/percentage.

Miaow wrote: MissTakexxx set it up so you 2-factor authentication to get to log in (they text a code to your registered mobile phone as well as you using your password). Mine got hacked - had it locked down in under 10 minutes as I spotted the email changed email notice come through and was straight on the phone to them - since I got it back (took under 12 hours to do) they've tried about 5 times to get into it and re-take it (I know because I've had the "your amazon code you requested" notices come up on my phone) and now given up and fucked off and left me alone.

Thanks Miaow. I had already set up 2 way verification and somehow hackers changed that too and got into my account and then stole from me. I've now begged Amazon 3 times over the last 5 weeks to close down my account and they promised faithful to do this and I even have it in writing this time - by email.....Several days after their third promise to close it within 24 hours, it's still an open account and I'm at my wits end.

What more do I need to do to get my Amazon account closed? I've emailed them yet again but if every single time they promise to close my account and every single time they don't do this - where do I go from here?
