At 28! Aibu in thinking this is really early? I feel like sobbing. It wasn't even a little one either it was very long and very white :( and I'm allergic to hair dye so isn't gonna be easy to cover but didn't think I would be dealing with this so soon :(

I'm going to stay blonde until the day I dye.

I was 22 when mine started. Prob about 80% grey now at 37 but dye every 6 weeks without fail!

About half of brunettes I know were sorting grey hairs before 20

Don't worry OP, it doesn't mean you will suddenly get lots of greys. I found my first one in my very early twenties and now ten years later I still only have a few, not enough to need dyeing.

I had my first one at 15 - I remember pulling it out in front of the mirror and being fascinated! I'm 37 now and I have lots and lots of grey and I only dye it when I can be bothered, I've got very dark hair and I actually think having flashes of white / grey is quite fun, especially on someone who looks and dresses a lot younger Grin I don't mind the grey at all! My mum is 70 and she absolutely hates grey and can't understand why I won't dye mine!

My cousin has nearly black hair and her greys look like silver sparkles. I have a widow's peak

I've been hospitalised because I have a severe reaction to hair dye not quite sure what I'm allergic to in it, hoping it's just the one!

DD was 10... not sure what the big deal with grey hair is anyhow. I don't dye my hair and have been noticeably greying since I was a teenager. Fully grey before 40, and I get complimented on my hair now.

Besides, people pay ££££ to have fake grey hair now.

I spent years henna-ing. With a little grey it can look quite pretty and sparkley but with my hair it was going more and more orange which wasn't for me. So I started adding indigo which gave a better result but just too much hassle.

Not sure how "read" got in there, sorry. But no, 28 isn't young at all to find a random white hair

I have a working theory..that dark haired "cool toned" pale girls go grey earlier. . I started going gray at 21 or 22..my mother started at 16. It's genetic, but I read things like dying you read hair or stress on the follicle can make it turn white earlier.

My eyebrows on thd other hand are horrendous - proper old man grey sticking up everywhere mutant things. I spend almost as much time dying, triming and waxing those as I ever did dealing with roots.

It is slightly younger than average, when I looked into it 30-35 was average but it was younger for smokers.

It must be alarming if you can't use dye and have a particular attachment to dark hair though, one of my friends couldn't dye her hair but could lighten it so went blonde to blend them in.

Greying since 16. I'm now 38.
Decided I've had enough of dealing with roots and started growing it out at the beginning of the year. I like the pure white streaks at my temples and the platinum streaks at the front but I'm not sure about the salt and pepper (50/50) at the back. I'd say overall I'm about 70% white/grey. My non grey hair is an ashy brown. Luckily my badger stripe isn't too bad.
Grey is only another hair colour. Having grey hair doesn't suddenly make me 70 but even if it did, so what?

I was 12 when I got my first and now 30 years later, I've stopped colouring my hair, got it cut really short to get rid of the coloured hair and am now rocking the more salt than pepper look.

I noticed new eyebrow hairs were white at 30 Shock

Hair at temples quickly followed.

My mum and sisters were early 20's though.

There comes a point in your mid thirties or early fourties when you might dye your hair, then again in your fifties when you can't be bothered and skip it.

gingerh4ir · 23/09/2017 14:55

but it is just one hair. doesn't mean you go grey. I had the odd one since my 20s. now in my 40s and still no more whites apart from the odd white ones. It may just be a single white one. it is long, so must have been there for years.

Grey hair started at 18, been dying it for decades now Confused

Uokbing · 23/09/2017 14:21

Meh, I got my first one at about 17. I'm 35 now and underneath the monthly nice and easy dye ritual I reckon I must be pretty much 100% grey now.

28 isn't particularly young.

Ah Flanders be careful with that - my hairs dark and I just thought the light was catching it Grin

Wasn't that much of a shock though, I'd had a grey pube in my late twenties. Something to do with hair removal means the trauma make sure them more common. I'm a lazy bint about my bikini line but I'm sure more people would notice if they slacked off for a bit!
