To say there's nothing remotely funny about being knocked to the ground by a dog

While walking on the beach with DH and our own dog, (which was on a lead at that time) I was aware of this crazy spaniel who was charging all over the place (as spaniels tend to do), he'd already been up and greeted our dog but they didn't have a proper play as ours was then on the lead because we were getting near to the beach's exit. A few minutes later I all of a sudden felt a huge blow to the back of my knees, I just fell to the ground in a heap. The crazy spaniel then stood over me trying to lick my face. DH was trying to pull me up but I literally just couldn't move straight away. Anyway the spaniels owner came along saying sorry but laughing at the same time.

I really didn't think it was funny, DH thought I was exaggerating with my inability to get straight up,

She wasn't able to get up at the time that the dog owner was laughing. It doesn't matter if she wasn't severely injured or lying screaming in pain - good grief. Fact is, woman's dog ran at her, knocked her over and the very first thing the woman did was laugh. Not check she was OK or apologise, laugh.

Weird - and ignorant. If it was 'just my humour' I'd be working on improving my SOH.

People are being over sensitive. She's a grown woman, not a child.

I did once see a You've Been Framed clip of a woman being knocked down and then put herself on all fours so the dog could hump her.

People get far too familiar with their dogs.

I'll try to find the clip.

Here:

I did once have a Rex Rabbit who humped my leg. I had to take him to the vet and have his little bunny gonads removed.

I'm not keen on bouncy dogs so I'd be asking the owner for her name and address to sue her for bodily harm.
Might make her a bit more careful about controlling her dog next time.

YANBU. I know of several people that have serious injuries from being knocked over by free running dogs. Two hip fractures, one broken collar bone, one broken wrist and one broken elbow and that's just off the top of my head.

To be fair they have all been caused by sighthounds, which are probably moving a lot faster than a spaniel, but being knocked completely off your feet and landing full weight, is likely to wind you at the very least and that's if you're lucky enough to not land awkwardly and break a bone.

I have two sighthounds myself. I don't let them free run in busy places like beaches and public parks, precisely because of the potential for serious injury if they did run into someone. If somehow someone was ever knocked over by one of them I would certainly not laugh, I'd be extremely apologetic at the very least.

But she was able to get up. If there was a lasting injury then it wouldn't be funny. But from what I've read it sounds funny and OP is being over sensitive about a small thing

I couldn't possibly disagree with you more.

I really can't see how I'm being over sensitive. Someone up thread said someone they knew died on the beach from a dog knocking them over.
I could so easily have got a serious knee injury. I was so badly shaken, and in a lot of pain for the rest of the day really. Just why that woman thought it was funny is beyond me.

Because I'm sure from a distance it looked funny. Some people don't get offended over things like this and laugh along. did you die? No. Did you break a bone? No.

YANBU. They should have apologised profusely and asked if you were OK.

If someone finds it "funny" for some reason, they should keep it to themselves.

My friends wife was knocked down by an exuberant young German Shepherd. ( the dog, not a Teutonic herder). She fractured her leg in two places and had several operations. No fun in your sixties, or any age!

My dad was looking after his friends dog . It ran off and knocked a small kid right of her feet , cartoon style. Oh how we all laughed.

WAIT. NO WE DIDNT. we were extremely apologetic and very embarrassed and checked the wee girl was okay. Because we are decent human beings.

Ps id have given the dog a hard kick to knock it over then joined the owner in laughing at the dog falling over and being hurt .

That doesn't make sense. The OP is a dog owner, and a responsible one, and she doesn't think it's okay. Neither do many other dog owners.

I don't own a dog and don't think it's okay, though I do think it's a hazard of being in an area where dogs are allowed to run free. That's not to say that the owner shouldn't have apologised to the OP and offered to help her. Nor that her dog should have been allowed to savage her. Which it didn't.

But these threads always end up like this with people who hate dogs ranting on about the time one scared their toddler child or bounded up with muddy feet when they were on the way to an important interview in a place where dogs were not expected to be off the lead.

This was a beach where dog walking is allowed. If you don't like dogs, don't go there.

I'd also say to dog owners sneering at people with lesser dog control skills: be careful of what you wish for.

Dog haters will shut you down. That's not going to affect me.

That's a very unpleasant thing to say iminshock. It's a dumb animal. Do try to keep a sense of perspective in case you're mistaken for one too.

I can't believe so many people are confused about this.

Member of your family falling over (once clear not hurt): Funny

Member of the public you don't know (and don't know is hurt): Not Funny

If you accidentally bashed into someone in public and they fell over, would you laugh? No, you'd apologise profusely. So, that's what you do when your dog bashes into someone.

And spaniel size..........you stepped back and tripped over it, didn't you?

Arc You obviously don't know springer spaniels......these dogs are packed with solid muscle. stepped back and tripped over it?....What on earth would make you think that?......a fall from tripping over something has a massively different impact than from being knocked over by a charging dog. Strange comment. Confused
