Use the ****ing bell

Just had 4th delivery of the day.

Every single delivery had the "special instruction" RING THE BELL printed on the label.

Every single driver tapped the door.

"Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity".

In the Lurking household, if I am not in, and MrsLH is in the back of the house, a knock won't be heard (but the secondary doorbell ringer will).

In the few days over Xmas, I may knock up a detection rig that rings the bell if anyone stands by the door for more than 5 seconds (one project for my Raspberry Pi).

What's the point ?

I really don't get the don't ring the doorbell baby sleeping thing. I have 4 under 2.5 asleep everyday for at least 2 hours. Doorbells and knockers and video entry phone, they sleep through the lot. I vacuum up the days mess whilst they nap too. Making the environment too quiet is a recipe for poor sleeping. But I do object to doorbell followed by knocker and hammering on the door, it irritates the hell out of me!

We ordered something from Lakeland which was sent with the Hermes. We waited over a week after being told 3-5 days and the tracking information just told us they had restricted access to our property ie a locked gate or key pad (we live in a small cottage on a farm with no hate)
Eventually we rang up Lakeland (many times) to finally be told Hermes only deliver to our area on a Thursday. To compensate us for the right fanny on we had tracking down our parcel they sent us some gift vouchers. Via Hermes. Which arrived on a Wednesday.

We don't have a doorbell but our front door is in our living room (we don't have a hallway).

I waited in for a parcel all day yesterday, made sure I wasn't in the kitchen for too long and at about 2pm a card was shoved through the door saying 'sorry we missed you'. Now, if I heard the letterbox open and the card get posted, I wonder why I didn't hear somebody knock on the door Angry luckily I had time to get outside and catch the delivery guy before he drove off so got my parcel. I also sarcastically thanked him for knocking Hmm

It isn't the first time it's happened so I think sometimes they like to assume you're not in. No idea why they'd do that but its fucking annoying.

Funnily enough whenever anyone else knocks on the door it's easily heard, even if I'm in the kitchen.

We have the knocking issue too. Our house is quite big so I'm never going to hear a knock unless I'm in the hall - but 90% of delevery drivers just bloody knock!

Of I do happen to catch them a sarcastic "oh isn't my bell working, then pressing it to show them that it is working" usually makes then use the bell the next time. But hadn't thought of actually putting ring the bell on the delivery instructions.
