AIBU?

to hide the Molton Brown while the builders are here and put out the cheap soap?

Having the loft converted and thought the builders were using the upstairs bathroom. But it seems they are also using the downstairs loo (well someone is leaving the seat up!) and using my Molton Brown soap.

Will they be upset if I substitute a lesser brand? WWYD?

Baylis and Harding, people. The Naranji smell for £2.50.

YANBU.

I love nice soap, I don't see any reason to share it with anyone. I have some lovely Miller Harris hand lotion by the kitchen sink and was aghast when my friend blithely tipped if all over her hands and then washed it off as if it was soap - noooooo.

Also my builders loved lattes. I kept trying to introduce instant, not because of snobbery but because I seemed to have become a full time barista and the cows of England were feeling the strain. Theirs was a serious caffeine/milk habit.

I don't think you have to share your nice stuff, the fact that they are builders is relevant only that they will have prolonged access to it and not because wig snobbery.

Yep Baylis and Harding here too! Smells the same as and looks similar to Molton brown. I wouldn't change the soap - it's only soap! To be fair, though, they probably won't give a shit what they wash their hands in.

Wig snobbery? Of snobbery

Oh, and 'lighthearted' is obviously a thread killer. But you can tell someone they sound snobbish without having a pitchfork in your hand!

Actually I wash my hands lots and am very fussy about the smell but I find some of the supermarket ranges have gorgeous scents. Ditto Method hand soaps. MB I save for bubble baths, which I will not be sharing with my builder.

My builders only wanted chocolate biscuits. The custards creams etc went untouched. They ate me out of house and home. Smile

I think it is more important to feed and water them, than to provide nice soap, especially if it is a gift and not your usual soap. Hide it.

I agree with Expat tbh.

My sister had some fancy hand soap (she doesn't usually buy it, maybe was a gift? I'm not sure anyway...), after it was finished she decanted some supermarket own brand hand soap into the container because she thought the container looked nice in her downstairs loo. Her neighbour was round and used the soap while she was there. The neighbour commented that you could tell the difference between the quality of the lovely soap to cheap rubbish as her hands felt lovely. My sister just smiled and nodded!

We had landscape gardeners in our old house and one of them took 6 sugars in his tea/coffee. I nearly fainted!

I would go with the posts which advocate food over posh soap...A decent homemade cake will probably have them eating out of your hands...

Wright's Coal Tar for me: that manly smack of pure phenol!

With you on the coffee though. Our last big landscape job, the guy walked in and went "ooh, a cafetiere!" and went through a whole bag of Guatemalan in two days.

I doubt they will notice. I suspect their hand washing function while they are there is 'let's get this crap off my hands'. Save your nice soap for you :) they most likely have their own nice soap at home

I hide the Molton Brown soap from DH and the kids. They don't appreciate it.

Which Bayliss and Harding smells like Naranji?

Well I'm from "up north" and I've never heard of Molten Brown!!!!

Hangs head in Northern shame

My builder often used to bring homemade sushi for lunch while I would grab a ham sarnie. [grab] ( The Times They Are a-Changin' )

I used the same, naice expensive coffee for my builders that I drank myself and they used to rave about it. I don't think they would have cared about soap.

MB is seen less frequently in the North..no Northern shame head hanging required.

It's because the Northern Chavs aren't worthy of Molton Brown. You aren't allowed to use it if you live anywhere North of Birmingham. Thems the rules.

although you can buy it at the Molton Brown shop at Cheshire Oaks.

Nice soap is definitely better. I can't bring myself to buy anything other than Sainsbury's Basics - 50p for 3x125g bars - though.

My friend bought me some Bronnley Honey Blossom soap with royal jelly and shea butter. Every now and then I open the box and sniff it then put it back in the cupboard.

I could never use it. The little embossed bee would wear off for a start.

I don't think you are BU. It's expensive and the builders won't mind.

But what if one of them stopped you and commented on how much they loved MB, how lovely it made their hands feel and how they appreciated the scent? Would you still swap?

Of course not. Smile. But they don't seem that type of builder.
