Rebekah Brooks Trial

I'm no fan of Rebekah Brooks but having watched the news reporting from court today I'm finding myself feeling incredibly sorry for her.

Apparently today she was questioned about her fertility issues. I mean what the hell does that have to do with phone hacking? According to the report I watched she was asked about her problems conceiving with Ross Kemp which prompted her to ask for a break in proceedings and she left the room in tears. Later she was questioned about the surrogacy that she and her current husband had gone through to get their daughter.

Seriously, how is that relevant/appropriate?! If she was a man I sincerely doubt she'd have been asked about such a private matter.

What she did was so morally reprehensible, I couldn't give a rat's ass what crap they drag up from her past. If she was prepared to allow such intrusion into people's lives that is has literally ruined them, then she deserves to have her life picked apart........every bit of it!!!!!

Divine retribution, I'd say Angry

Well this thread ties in nicely with a current thread on another highly respected person (not).

I couldn't give a fuck if she was infertile or had fired out a kid on the same day every year. She and Coulson are wankstains on the kleenex of humanity.

I feel sorry for her. I don't think her practice of tabloid journalism is any worse than anybody else's and there are plenty of people who have acted exactly as she has and aren't in the dock. The trial is almost literally a witch hunt. I hope she gets off.

Remember tabloids only publish what sells - to us. You want to know who's really to blame for the Dowlers ordeal and Sienna Miller et al's embarrassment and distress? Look in the mirror.

They're going to get found guilty. I just hope one of them is spared jail just for the sake of their baby.

You hope she gets off because you feel sorry for her? You should only hope that someone gets off because they're innocent.

I can look in the mirror and know for certain I played no part in what the Dowlers went through. I've never bought a rag she's edited.

On what I've read so far I don't think the charges are proved . Yes I feel sorry for her. I feel sorry for anybody on trial like this.

Never bought a paper ok. What about web media? Never clicked on a celebrity link?

What squoosh said.

SeasickSal her poor baby will be better off without the both of them.

Seriously.

caninamechange come on, she's scum. She's greedy manipulative and totally amoral. She's now playing a transparent media game.

Everything, but everything that AngelaDaviesHair said.

I don't think she's scum. I think she's fairly bright, manipulative yes and possessed of abilities that allow her to see what's important to people and build connections on that basis. I also think she's in the ducking stool because of our collective guilt about tabloid journalism and critically the appetites that feed it.

seasick having a child isn't a get out of jail free card, especially when the timings of the surrogacy coincide with being investigated and arrested for a serious crimethat if found guilty would lead to a substantial prison sentence suggess
A) pisspoor parenting and a shocking lack of judgement or

B) that you think a baby may be a useful prop in your forthcoming trial.

Belchica---"She got upset and asked for a break? When questioned by her own defence on a subject matter she would have agreed to before? She was and still is a manipulative scheming hack."

Exactly what I thought.

The McCanns and Dowlers didn't break down when giving televised evidence concerning the atrocious, cuntish behaviour they had to put up with from jurnos such as RBs. I'm sure RBs could have maintained her dignity if she'd really wanted to.

I have never had an appetite for tabloids and I am certain that I'm not alone.

There's a market out there for hard core child porn. Who would sympathise with someone who chose to make a lucrative career out of serving that market?

Report
caninamechange · 21/02/2014 23:59

Oh com on - she's in her mid 40s. Hardly remarkable that she would want a child with her husband nor that she would choose to become a parent now rather than waiting till this trial is concluded.

sallying the look on Blairs face!

Do you think they've shagged as well? She does have a peculiar taste in men.

Really? With the possibility of gaol hanging over both parents? The child was born to a surrogate so biological reasons were not pressing. They have been in a relationship since 2008, but decide that in the midst of the shitstorm engulfing them, that it was the perfect time for a surrogate pregnancy.

I'm a lawyer who worked in criminal defence for the first 15 years of her career. RB (or the Cowardly Lion, as she's know in this household) was being examined in chief by her own counsel. Everything she was asked about would have been pre-prepared and has been asked for a reason favourable to her defence - no doubt in an attempt to garner the sympathy of the jury. Don't be sympathetic - you're being manipulated.

Even if they are qs from her own counsel the situation and underlying emotion could be heightened enough that she legitimately needed a break

And agree totally that questions from your own counsel are pre agreed.

Couldn't care less. She wouldn't have thought twice about exposing someone else's fertility problems if she thought it'd sell her rag of a tabloid.

Famous men on trial also have their personal lives raked over so YABU to play the sexism card.
