I mean WTF was that all about?
I spent days looking forward to series 2 and then he's stabbed with a bloody ice pick!
Spent almost the entire episode hoping and willing it all to be a big wind-up...expecting him to walk in any minute saying "Ah, got you there".
Rubbish storyline too.
What a crock of shite - won't be watching it again.
Love the other actors as I do, it can't be the same without Richard Sad

It's only a very shitty TV programme. People need not get quite so worked up about it.

Report
Clawdy · 15/01/2014 07:42

It's certainly not "very shitty". It's good fun and wonderful escapism on a freezing January night in Manchester....Will miss Ben M though.

Report
ItsATIARA · 15/01/2014 07:48

The BBC don't think it's a spoiler so why should the OP?

Report
ProfYaffle · 15/01/2014 07:51

Totally agree with sparklingbrook, I've never understood the angst around programmes that have already been broadcast. It's part of the risk of recording something, you can't expect the rest of the population not to discuss it Confused

Report
Dumpylump · 15/01/2014 07:53

Don't watch it....never have, but I do watch other stuff on tv, so I knew he was being killed off and that Kris Marshall was taking over. It has been heavily trailed over the last 10 days, don't really know how anyone has managed to not know!
OP, you don't deserve to be flamed for "spoiling", although you could have been more succinct with your thread title.

Report
LineRunner · 15/01/2014 07:53

I was going to watch it on I player.

I must update my risk assessment procedures.

Report
CasperGutman · 15/01/2014 07:56

It's hardly a spoiler - the event in question has been heavily trailed, discussed in interviews, the show has been broadcast, and most importantly in my view the event takes place in the first 2 minutes of the programme, before the opening titles!

LineRunner · 15/01/2014 07:56

Actually I haven't been watching much tv lately because of a corneal erosion. I can only MN by holding the kindle two inches away from my face. It's not a good look.

I was reserving some programmes for I player for when I get better.

Please think more carefully before writing a thread title like that. I was looking forward to watching it tonight (have recorded) and you have spoilt it for me. (not actually read this thread coz I don't want to know any more but title was there in active messages)

Report
CasperGutman · 15/01/2014 08:05

I think people will be less upset about the spoiler once they''ve seen the show!

Report
TSSDNCOP · 15/01/2014 08:08

Exactly now long after a programme is aired on national television is it allowed to be discussed?

Report
OvO · 15/01/2014 08:11

About 30 seconds.

Just use the show name as a thread title so people who haven't seen it yet know not to click.

How hard is that?

Report
LineRunner · 15/01/2014 08:22

It's not the discussion, it's the thread title.

Report
BackforGood · 15/01/2014 08:42

Just the same as in real life - you'd start a conv with "Did you see such and such last night?" and the people you are with can go - oh, no, I'm going to watch it tonight and then you'd not give anything away. Well, it's the same in a thread - you invite people in to the discussion, so people can opt in not have things spoiled by skimming a list of thread titles.
For those saying 'how can you have missed it?' - I very rarely watch live TV - I watch it all on Catch up, therefore avoiding all adverts, and being able to pause progs as well - so it's rare for me to see a trailer. clearly I'm not the only one from the people commenting on this thread.

Fwiw Ben Stiller is a Hollywood actor as afaik has never featured in this tv series.

Crapsticks! Wish those ladies discussing bake off this morning had asked the carriage if they'd seen it before giving the winner away.

How is ti a spoler whwn anybody who watched the first 2 aweiews knwe what was going to happen, it's been publicised and all over the media, i'ts even on telly addicts here. Oh and there was a trailer with Ben Miller with a knife in his chest.
Fair enough, it's a spoiler if the programme hasn't been broadcast yet but once it's been broadcast anyone can discuss it.
I have it on tape for tonight OP and you haven't spoiled it for me.
As for 'inconsiderate lout', how nasty.
Oh and BTW Darth Vader is Luke's father.

Report
LineRunner · 15/01/2014 09:21

It might have been a Sherlock.

liquidstate · 15/01/2014 09:25

I enjoyed it yes Ben will be missed but to me it wasn't all him, love Gary Carr, the girl, the commissioner and yes Danny John Jules who is a fantastic actor/comedian. They make a good team and the murder was suitably weird. I think the new chap will grow into the role very well.

OP please change the title of your thread it really is piss poor of you to ruin it for other people. I know it was in the press but it was made clear that Ben would leave early in the series and it was not discussed how he would make his exit.

Report
steppemum · 15/01/2014 09:29

For goodness sake, it has been in every trailer for the last 3 weeks, in fact when it was on last night I assumed it was episode 2 or 3 as the trailers have been going on for so long.

If you didn't know he was killed, you must be hibernating, and I haven't even read any of the press interviews.
Think op is BU because it has been so heavily trailed that he was dead, she should have realised herself.

It won't spoil your watching of the programme, as the whole 55 minutes are AFTER he is dead.

Correction of first inarticulate sentence.

Kris Marshall is sporting a hayrick in this series.
Report
LadyBeagleEyes · 15/01/2014 09:46

I'm looking forward to watching it, I loved the first two series and Ben but Kris seems to be a good replacement.
I'm just disappointed that Ben and his female colleague didn't have a happy ending as they were falling for each other.
Brilliant non thinky telly set in the Caribbean with sunshine, beautiful scenery and warm Caribgean accents and an improbable murder.
What's not to like on a cold January night.
