What would you pay for this?

Our menu at work reads

Curry dishes - £5
(Includes boiled rice or chips - fried rice 30p extra)

Chips- £1
Fried rice £2

If, for example, you ordered a chicken curry, with chips and fried rice, how much would you expect to pay?

Think its clear! I would just forget anout, explain to your nanager thaf he didnt understand and wouldnt pay the total. Dont get all the slagging off about how people eat their food!
I sometimes like having chips fried rice and curry sauce, but only from the one chinese that has it on the menu.
Plus if i have an indian i have curry, chips and a nan as only rice i like is fried rice from the chinese.

NW here too but no half and half in this part.

I'd hope to be charged £6.30 with that wording but not be surprised if they tried to charge £7

Well it's £6.30 or £7, so when you have that choice you're obviously going to choose £6.30 Grin
I'd be very happy to pay £7...

diddl · 27/07/2013 17:22

I don't think that it is obviously 6.30

Could be 6.30 for curry & fried rice plus chips.

Could be 7 for curry & chips plus fried rice!

what it couldn't be is anything else!!

Sorry you have to put up with shit customers who can't do basic maths, OP.

I had to wait behind a woman in Clarks today who was livid that the shop assistant couldn't give her a full refund for some shoes she had that hadn't lasted but had hardly been worn.

She had kept them mostly in a bag in the back of her wardrobe.

FOR TEN YEARS.

The shop girl was trying to explain that such old stock simply wouldn't be in their system so she couldn't refund it, but was helpfully giving her all the information for Customer Care.

At which point the woman screamed (louder than my toddler can) and left in a huge strop.

I take my hat off to all people who deal with such shitheads and remain pleasant!

It's very obviously £6.30. I'm go smacked at how cheap it is, round here it would be around £7 for the curry, which doesn't include any side at all, then at least £2.50 each for both chips or rice.
Around £20 for a very basic takeaway curry...

The amount of people on here who are claiming the menu is misleading is really worrying.

Its not unclear or difficult to understand in the slightest. That's how every single takeaway menu reads!

Report
diddl · 27/07/2013 17:16

Seems quite clear to me that it's dishes with sides included & separate sides!

Have never heard of half & half-make a bloody choice FFS!

Well the way it was worded, I would probably have charged 7.00 GBP.

5 for curry & chips, 2 for fried rice.

Report
UniqueAndAmazing · 27/07/2013 17:05

sorry, boiled or fried.

curry with chips £5
curry with boiled rice £5
(substitute boiled with fried rice, then add 30p)

chips side £1
fried rice side £2

Report
UniqueAndAmazing · 27/07/2013 17:01

you need to make it clearer.

it looks like it says that it's £5 for curry and chips/rice, but it insinuates that if you choose chips then rice is 30p extra.

It needs to be reworded:

curry with chips £5
curry with rice £5.30
chips on its own £1
rice on its own £2.

or
curry with chips £5 (if you want rice instead of chips, please add 30p)

South African Cape Malay curries are delicious. Just saying

Report

I love curry and chips. Grin

I would change the pricing structure. It's too fiddly.

£5 for curry with either rice or chips

£1.50 for a portion of chips or fried rice.

You could adjust the portions sizes but the 'raw' costs of chips or fried rice is pretty minimal.

How can anyone think it was £5.30?? Confused It's obviously either £6.30 or £7.00

AnnabelleLee put it quite clearly when she explained for the hard of thinking that 'the idea is to make money, not provide true cost value for your cash'.

I'm listening to a radio programme about the unjustifiable fees charged by letting agents. Now that's a consumer rights issue to get aerated over. Not takeaway menus.

I've had takeaway the last two nights and now might have to have it tonight too.
Mmmmm mushroom curry, half chips, half fried rice and a pineapple fritter......................

Curry with fried rice and chips is disgusting piggery and there is no justification for any sober person to order it. You are doing the general public a favour by making such an unhealthy combination unaffordable.

Also, its a chinese curry. Do you think they only come from India Hmm

Report
primallass · 27/07/2013 12:06

Also why is a chinese takeaway selling curry - it must be a chinese and Indian takeaway. And who would want curry and chips - ugh.

That would be Chinese curry sauce.

Because they want to and they can. The point is to make money.
The amount of people on mn that complain that prices aren't precisely fair...welcome to capitalism!

This thread has been bugging me so I have come back to it. If curry and chips or plain rice costs 5 and with fried rice 30p. The issue for me is how 2 can be charged separately for the fried rice. If a portion with a curry costs 30p more then surely a portion without or in addition to curry and chips should be 1.30. Unfair and misleading pricing structure if you ask me.

Also why is a chinese takeaway selling curry - it must be a chinese and Indian takeaway. And who would want curry and chips - ugh.

DH and I had a sainsbury's curry last night. Chick jalfrezi, chick tikka masala, 4 onion bhajis, large naan, pilau rice. Was 8 - some people have more money than sense.

This is the way almost all Chinese takeaways price their food.

Never seen half n half rice n chips with a main meal. Only in a one tray with sauce n even then two items are dearer

Eg
One tray chips n sauce £3
One tray chips rice n sauce £3.50
One tray chips rice onions n sauce £4

Dooin your shop sounds very reasonably priced too!
