To think pitta bread is just shite?

I mean...I'm always reading "Make pitta pockets!" and "Fill pitta bread with (insert gorgeous ingredients)

But when you do, it's like eating a brown envelope stuffed with ham etc. Dry, horrid. Again I have bought pittas from Sainsbos only to find they're dry and horrible! They don't even open up properly but crumble...it's the same whenever I buy them..is it the brand or are they just a shitty sandwich?

Toast the pittas, cut in half, fill with cheese (and anything else eg ham, tomatoes) and microwave for about 40 seconds to melt the cheese.

Have just made a batch (Delia) and they are lovely

If you're not toasting them or warming them up, then therein lies your problem - pitta bread should definitely be warmed up otherwise they do taste dry and crumbly!
If you haven't got a microwave, just lightly toast them and they should open up fine (escaping steam is hot though!)
Fill with your cheese/ham or whatever and YUM, job done! Smile

Best snacks ever - toasted pitta with melted cheese, bacon and ketchup or if you want to be a bit healthier toasted pitta with cheese and cucumber or just toasted and dipped in humous. ALWAYS toasted though. They aren't very nice and always white pitta - not keen on the brown ones at all.

Grin Yanbu, hate them except when soggy sitting under juicy kebab meat. Love them soggy, but envelope dry no way!

What?' The Op was eating them untoasted? Geez. Confused

They're raw bread otherwise. Ok, partially cooked. You might as well eat those partially baked baguettes that are to be popped into the oven at home.

Ours broke about a month ago and tbh I was glad. Massive thing all crumby in the corner it was. I grill bread under the grill thing of the oven now.

I am another fool who didn't realise you had to toast pitta! Inspired by this thread I had them today-toasted with cheese, tomato and houmous. Was so good I am having it again tomorrow!

I grill mine under the grill! They go crispy and sometimes a bit burnt and are amazing with pitta bread or just mayonaise

OP you're doing it wrong!

Grill them if you have no toaster. Oven is wrong.

Are they white ones? brown ones are rank.

Brilliant from frozen in the toaster, I always have some frozen, they sell them near me three 6 packs for 99p in a turkish supermarket.

I rather like wholemeal ones Blush, grilled, chopped into slices and dunked in hummus. Crispiness works well with the hummus.

I just toast them straight from frozen. The ones from tesco are horrid though!

Our 3 year old has eaten an avocado and Philadelphia pitta for lunch probably 5 days a week for the last 2 years. They can't be too bad.

Oh. My. God.

I feel as foolish as the poster who didn't realise she had to change her mooncup at least twice a day and wondered why it smelt of rotting dead bodies

Its even there in plain "serving suggestion" style black and white on the back of the pack.

Right.

So I have just popped my toasted pitta bread cherry. And it was gooooooooodddd.

Okay, so the were not any old pittas but M&S Pittas Wink but ohh my days

With cheese and hummus, they were DIVINE

Why I've been knowing my way through the sodding things which are dry as a fuck without foreplay I don't quite know.
