Right, hands up ... anyone who suffered from HG, how many of you were asked if you had tried ginger biscuits? And how many of those helpful people did you punch?

The correct response is "how about I break your leg and then offer you a couple of bloody paracetamol?" generally gets the message across....

TurkeyDino Are you my bud? Your hangover cure sounds like her and I was pregnant at 18 and she was my best friend. If you are, all is forgiven. Xmas Grin

I didn't have HG but reasonably bad morning sickness all day, every day for first 4 months. I came very close to shouting at the stupid cow (who doesn't have kids) who forcibly told me that hot water and lemon would sort it out. Yes, of course - billions of women have gone through morning sickness and not one of them had thought about it before you suggested it, it was as simple as that Hmm

Ginandtonic It wasn't pleasant -the only 'upsides' (possibly) were a) not having to lose any post-baby weight because there wasn't any and b) getting a seat on the train by either passing out or throwing up.

Ginger biscuits? Fruit cake before you get out of bed? Flat coke? A dry cream cracker? Load of old bollocks.

A week in hospital on a drip plus drugs are the only things that helped me even remotely. 35 weeks of vomiting was very grim Sad

With HG with dd - my second time with that hg that they tell you won't happen I was in on my second admission of the pg.

I had to lie in the bed whilst a registrar told me I wouldn't get better unless I ate and I was eating the wrong types of food. She herself had been pg and told me all about soildering on. She instructed me to eat dry toast and water.

Thankfully and fortunately at this point my consultant arrived and informed her in fellow Dr speak to speak to stop being a dickhead and go away.

I never thought it would actually be you but that milk and lucozade (drink of hangoverjoy) thing. Jesus wept.

My lovely (now long since retired) consultant was brilliant, but he did tell me that years ago, some women died from hyperemesis. They were put on a rubber sheet and left to it as the illness was considered psychological. How sad is that?

I used to love ginger biscuits. They were my favourite tea dunker. Now they just remind me of vomit. Sad

2 kids = 18 months of HG for me. Angry

There were so many people who I would have loved to have hurt, all of whom seemed to think I should just pull myself together, eat a ginger biscuit and stop making such a fuss about a little bit of sickness.

AF- oh god Zofran! I begged for this the second time round (HG with both boys) as it was the only thing that worked first time. Did like cyclizine though as I found the burn quite soothing- think a couple too many gins- and it gave me the naughtiest electric psychadelic dreams. Did fack all for the sickness though.

At the time I thought "oh get over it woman it's only morning sickness. Other people have it worse." But now I know that my consultant wasn't being flippant when he said that nobody would criticise me if I wanted a termination when discussing options.

I can never say exactly how awful it was to anyone who hasn't had it because they just don't get that it's not "just" bad ms (feel sorry for anyone who has had even a flash of nausea though because it's so all-encompassing)- so I just nod and smile "yes I was quite poorly".

Murray mints and robinsons high juice literally saved my life.

Hahaha oh yes the dreading ginger biscuit 'solution'. Want some proper advice? Go to A&E, vomit on the floor and they'll soon give you a shot of cyclozine and a drip, works wonders.

I'm also feeling very depressed because the doctor said the reason I was suffering from it was because I was under 20. Now this clearly isn't the case, I do not plan on ever having another baby!

they should tell you that nothing will stop it but lying in your bed making little moany noises and eating only salt and vinegar crisps for about 14 weeks will be the closest thing you get to relief!

I got vertigo at 20 weeks and they gave me pills for that. They also cured my ms overnight! Or maybe it was coincidence and would've gone on its own. I could've heel-clicked my way to work it was such a relief!

First I was scared I was going to die. Then I was scared I was not going to die.

Hence only two dc when we'd planned on a shed load.

Still feel guilty that I am not woman enough to put myself through it again.

AF, I fantasised about swapping bodies with someone. Just for an hour. I also dreamed of cold orange juice over crushed ice (I was a week nil by mouth, including fluids). At the precipice of kidney failure, I think I told DH I wanted to die Blush

The death penalty is too lenient for cunts who suggest you try ginger biscuits. In my pg, I developed a truly 'special' type of vomiting, where everything would come back out really thickly and reeeeeeally slowly. There were times when I had to force myself to reswallow it or scoop it out of my mouth with my hand because I couldn't breathe. One of the medical students the consultant delightfully allowed to watch me during one of these episodes said I was like a 'human sausagemeat machine' and then they all talked about how it resembled some sort of gross sfx in a horror film. Cheers.

Still, it all went away as soon as the crippling (and I mean that literally) SPD set in...

Yes, I am sticking at just one child, why do you ask? Wink

Oh, and I was 39, and I know two other mums who also got HG, both over 35, so the young mums thing is bollocks.

With my 1st pregnancy with hg well meaning fil sent me homemade chicken soup. 1 sip came up like 10 gallons! Also could punch people who insist its a girl makes you so sick. Had dd 1st but 2nd pregnancy with ds the hg was far worse. My consultant pretended to hit his head off the wall as none of the drugs worked!

Oh yes chickens and AF I did not dramatically announce to DP at 9 weeks "I can't go on" and then sob for several hours even though i was nowhere near as ill as some of you. At that point I couldn't imagine ever feeling well again and thought that I would feel that way for the rest of my life whole pregnancy
