Right, hands up ... anyone who suffered from HG, how many of you were asked if you had tried ginger biscuits? And how many of those helpful people did you punch?

Cortana - was that cyclizine? Needs diluting or it burns like fuck.

Maybe ginger biscuits taken rectally would work better when you are vomming your stomach through your nose.

I have no idea Sparkling, was good stuff though, I begged for it during labour as I needed a few hours not being sick to concentrate on what my body was trying to do.

The support I got for the whole thing outside of the maternity ward was shocking. My advice to anyone suffering this and not getting support is to rock up on the maternity ward and demand help. I know pregnancy isn't a bag of fun to begin with but 8 months (and it started just after my first missed period and ended with that injection during labour) is too much, it's a scary thought that even if we manage to conceive I may have it all to go through again.

I found ginger beer helped but ginger biscuits were a waste of time.

I didn't have the energy to punch anyone that suggested biscuits. I was too busy wondering when I'd get to the 'glowing' stage. . . which eventually arrived about 6 months in and lasted for one afternoon Smile

Remus. My GP was the same. I had a blistered lips and tongue too. Apparently a normal part of pregnancy.....

Yes to the blisters.

Ugh. If I ever see that GP again, I now feel strong enough to belt her. At the time I was too weak to even protest when she kept sending me home. What an idiot I was.

Ugggh. Ginger biscuits still give me the boak.

I didn't have HM, but did have dreadful nausea that lasted well into my 3rd trimester - it was like having an all-day killer hangover every day for 6 months. I wanted to stab everyone who suggested those fecking biscuits. The only thing that helped was grazing constantly - thankfully all chub went straight to baby Grin

Really, how to sum up pregnancy is a one epic hangover. Unforgiving, horrible and just draining, without the pleasure of waking up the following day feeling slightly more fresh before the next session.

I was never dx with Hg but had dreadful sickness in the first few months of being pregnant. And agree - ginger biscuits don't work!!!

valiumredhead · 03/12/2012 21:01

Yes and they did help along with ginger and lemon tea Grin

I may have suggested ginger biscuits to my best bud when she had terrible morning sickness for pretty much all of her pregnancy Blush in my defence I was only 18 and knew fuck all about pregnancy or HG. I probably also suggested milk and lucozade as that was my go to cure for hangover vomiting. I'm surprised she wasn't sick on me for suggesting it.

I like to feel that karma got me back when I spewed spectacularly in a hotel restaurant in front of Gerard Houlier. DH was horrified as he'd been hoping for a photograph with him.

I'm suffering hyperemesis now. It's just awful. I was also given cyclizine intravenously - ouch!

Just before my 2nd hospital admission, after being unable to eat or drink anything for 48 hours, my GP asked me if I had tried sipping water.

I really hadn't thought to try that! If only I'd known.

I agree that the support and understanding of this, outside of maternity wards, is really poor. When I first went to the docs, right at the beginning of this nightmare, my doctor shrugged and told me she hadn't felt a bit sick with either of her children. It really helped!

Oh no. They made me feel worse. The worst offender was actually fresh ginger, I vomited there and then.

The only slight relief I found was mints.

It's taken the menopause to stop me still heaving when I'm very tired/cleaning my teeth/seeing someone walk about with a pen in their mouth (foul habit - packitin).

Morning sickness? If only it had been...

Mmm a ginger biscuit that would have just the thing to ease my ragged and bleeding throat from all the vomiting. I lived on Callipos and I didnt even have hyperemesis just severe all day morning sickness that luckily went in the 2nd trimester.
