AIBU?

to be pissed off at idiots who ask for a Buy-It-Now Price price on eBay auctions

WTF. If I had a Buy It Now price, I would have put it on the auction FFS. What's up with these people?? Don't they know that sellers have to option to put a BIN price, and if they don't chose that option, it means THEY DON'T WANT TO.

It depends, I've had people ask me, but the offers weren't high enough so I didn't accept. I have also asked someone, he very politely turned it down, which is equally fine. Why are you getting so het up about it?

Whoever won't add dimensions if asked. In a shop I can try an item on to see if it fits. Amazingly I cannot do that on ebay and I cannot return it to you if it doesn't fit. I wouldn't bid on an item even with a size unless I know the brand and which size fits me, sizes vary depending on the shop. If I'm purchasing from a proper on line store they have a returns policy, the service for that is reflected in the price.

I often ask if they'd consider a BIN, I'm often lucky. If it's something I really want, particularly if it's a one off, I'm happy to pay over the odds. What's the harm in asking nicely? Don't ask, don't get imo.

OOOOooooo YANBU gets my goat too

Does my head in when you have an item clearly worth £100 and person offering BIN thinks you have just fallen out of a tree and offers £5

yes the 30 day BIN is free listing today I have put some on

I don't mind requests for BIN and the offers are always, for me, much more than the auction price. I agree as long as there are no existing bids on the item, of course. What I hate are the demanding emails: e.g. when the item stated in description 'please note I only ship to UK due to past tracking issues' and I got an email from someone saying 'post to Estonia'. Ask nicely, damn it! I've also sold with the disclaimer 'no returns accepted' and had the buyer - after paying - say 'if I doesn't fit me, refund'. Hmm

Thank you, I dont use BIN, because there are charges and I always list on free listing days - I am happy enough to offer it if asked though, I always ask the buyer what they are looking to pay, and if I am happy to sell for that price, then I do, if I am not I let auction run.

Not so. I often ask people if they will add a BIN and I've had 100% success rate. No-one has said 'No, sorry, I only want auction'. I don't actually make a specific offer though. Just ask if they will do BIN and how much they'd want. So I imagine these WTF-ing Idiots like myself do it because most people will actually consider BIN even if they didn't use it originally. If it traumatises you so much, maybe you should add something in the description about it.

My DH is one of these annoying people who always asks if the seller will take a certain amount for something on eBay, although it back fired on the seller when we purchased our pram as my DH offered them £200 a few days before the end of auction and they didnt get back to us till the last minute when they saw that it wasnt making anywhere near that on the auction....we said we'd wait it out...and we got it for £146!

So although YANBU...as a seller sometimes it may work out better for you! Wink

I feel sorry for any well meaning hapless buyer who makes the mistake of contacting the OP. You are rude and aggressive and exactly the kind of seller that gives ebay a bad name.

PrettyHairClips before you start throwing the insults around maybe you should read up on how BIN works.

The only person being an idiot here is you.

Well not everyone who puts their item up at auction minds being asked about a BIN, the might not be sure. Just be ause you don't like being asked does not mean other sellers feel the same. To call them idiots s just Hmm puts you in a bad light. Yes teir is nothing wrong withaskng about the dimensions of something if you have not included it. It saves the hassle of returning and refunding. A good seller will not mind being asked questions, those that do I don't buy fro. As a seller myself I really dont mind I would rather the buyer be absolutely sure before bidding

I sold a brand new ipad 2 on ebay, some cheeky git asked if I would accept £180 including p&p.

I understand 'you don't ask, you don't get' but my motto is 'you ask a cheeky price, prepare for a very cheeky reply from me'

My friend asked for a bin price on a car.

Women selling refused and left it to auction.

Friend got it for 900 quid less than she offered bin Grin

What an ignorant attitude Mousefunk - if you are trying to sell an item surely you try your upmost to help.

Why is it silly to ask about arm length on a dress you've given just the size for? It stops people having to try an return items and giving you bad feed back - duh!

Not me -The potential buyer was abusive in his response to us that the answer was no. It went for a lot more than the offer of £20.

YABU I once sold something I almost gave away to someone who offered me £300 BIN

Report
LeBFG · 17/11/2012 15:34

Er, BIN for 20 quid or wait for the auction to get 99p - and you prefer 99p???

If I have an item I particularly want, I often ask for a BIN price, or even ask for several items as a one price bundle. You only have to refuse. Everyone I've asked have given a price (except one which already had bids on so didn't want to pull - fair enough).

If info is not mentioned in the add, I ask questions too. So if no mention of marks, I'll ask for marks. THe problem is with your description. THe worst ads are: babygrow, 18 mo. No make, no indication of whether the clothing is from a with smokers/pets, well used/like new etc. Plus, I always ask some questions - it's a good way to test the seller (may sound odd - but I've had questions go unanswered so I assume they aren't really arsed about selling).
