LineRunner mentioned it...only TWO unavoidable things in life 'Death and Taxes'.

Guaranteed to find missing P60, after you no longer need it of course. Get onto employer - it's not a substitute P60 they issue, just a printout, but will have all the info HMRC require.

Positive thinking regarding rebate Smile

It is rather annoying that HMRC already have the info...can't take more than a few clicks on their computers to access it?

You have clearly never dealt with HMRC
they are crap beyond belief - and to a level they will NEVER accept from taxpayers - at collating records

It is your legal responsibility
Once you have left a company they only have a duty of care, not a responsibility

I know this is a serious thread but can I just say that I love the use of 'donkey's years'?

I have kept my P60's since 19 Canteen.

TalkinPeace2 I know all about HMRC's reputation hence my avoidance slight delay in writing to them about MY rebate Grin I am thinking lovely brightly coloured stationery, and maybe even a hint of perfume sprayed on the envelope, just so my letter might be noticed in the piles of mail I'm sure they receive daily.

The point is they already DO have the info - just not good at sharing with people who by some chance have lost/mislaid documents.

Has Seepage left their job? I didn't pick that up from posts?

they DO NOT have the info - at least not in a format that they can retrieve it in your lifetime
they have "archived" all records before 2006 - even the ones relating to current complaints
officers I am dealing with are having to go through old rolls of microfiche film for stuff only 8 years old

TalkinPeace2 Sounds worse than I thought...I have until next year to get my 'documents' in so better get a move on then Grin

How on earth do they manage to track down people who owe tax then?

By a combination of bluster, bullshit and demanding records from the banks as far as I can see.
I have three clients who are owed a total of over £10,000 - some of it dating back 5 years.
HMRC admit they owe it but until they can "reconcile it" to the penny will cough up nothing.
So the clients have stopped paying all other taxes due up to those amounts and have said to the debt collection arm - see you in court we'll call the Daily Mail
so far so quiet !!

TalkinPeace2 Great post...Grin and I will bear all that you have said in mind when I finally get around to putting in my rebate claim.

Can I presume that while they are holding 'your' money to ransom due to 'reconciling' it they aren't liable for 'accrued' interest?

Death and Taxes indeed Wink

You can actually get replacements nowadays - times past you couldn't because it wasn't a document you were allowed to duplicate, but this has all changed now and you can request a copy from your employer.

yeah you can REQUEST it, getting it can be another matter. I've been doing so since 2008 for one I was never sent from one employer (or got lost in the post, but knowing said employer...). So not technically a replacement I suppose. I shall continue to bug them......
