I think I've got all the P60s I've ever had. I've definitely got at least 10 years' worth, anyway.

They are a single piece of paper each. I don't understand why it's so difficult too keep at least 5 years' worth of them; they take up no more room than your passport would. Confused

Because I am chronically disorganised, airheaded and flighty. I have the most shocking memory. I don't understand money, bills or numbers. It makes me unhappy but I can't do it. I have survived so far. I am good at other stuff.

and yes - I kind of do expct the inland revenue to have a copy of what they sent me in the first place - that being their job.

The Inland Revenue don't send you the P60, your employer does.

You could try asking for a duplicate but they aren't under obligation to send you another one.

SN aside how can you not understand money, bills or numbers? That just smacks of an excuse to be rubbish and then expect someone else to sort your life out.

I have most of mine, the one I need is missing. Overpaid tax while on mat. leave and hoping for a nice cheque once I get around to writing letter to HMRC soon.

We I keep all documentation way past the recommended 5 years - stuffs the small filing cabinet fit to burst but then I don't trust the powers that be one inch!

Usually employers can give you a printout of gross pay, tax, net pay etc for any given year so try asking them.

PreviouslylyonLost I often have paper work for far too long, we moved about a year ago, after we moved I sorted out a load of paperwork for shredding (I know, should have done it before the move!) and I had phone bills going back to 2005?!?! I just think, oh, file that away, might need it some day, never do and then have to have a good sort out!

Me too...Grin

I think it says on P60's ...^Keep in a safe place as you on pain of feckin' death WILL NOT be issued with another one!

I have got the necessary information from an employer before, speak to your HR dpt.

Good luck Smile

Grovel ? No, ask if they would be able to print off another copy for you please - Yes.

You're making a simple thing complicated.

pleknittingmum Again, ME TOO!

Oh, but the agony of needing to claim on a warranty and it's the ONLY buggery bollocks receipt you CAN'T find...despite having other useless pieces of paper receipts dating back to when God was a boy.

my mum needed OLD pay slips etc AFTER she retired, couldnt get copies, if she hadn't kept them all (like I do) she'd have lost out on £££££s she was able to claim from her employer (for very complicated reasons). I also cleared a CCJ because of one slip of paper I had from a place I rented years previously. Without that I'ld have been stuck with it for years. KEEP THEM PEOPLE! I have all my payslips from my first job and travelling onwards

YABU
7 years is the standard
P60's take up little space - a lifetimes worth will fit in a large envelope
you want maternity pay, you sort out your paperwork
in the USA there is no such thing as maternity pay

if you have your P60's and p45s you do not need to keep pay slips - but check that you have the p60 or p45 to cover all payslips before having that bonfire

Report
FabbyChic · 03/09/2011 17:19

You are supposed to keep them for six years. i.e the oldest is six years old.

You can request a copy from your employer.

DH had the problem that all of the records of one of his former employers "went on fire" - thank goodness we were self reliant

The info from your P60 should be on the March 2009 payslip, as this is usually the final payslip before the end of the tax year. P60 normally comes attached to the April payslip.

Seepage 'Must try to be less crap'...Nah, just keep being good at the things you're good at Smile

I don't do numbers unless I'm forced to either.

TalkinPeace2 I was the poster who had problems with mat. leave pay - OP hasn't said why they need P60. My employer continued to pay me during M.L. I had collected first 3 months payslips (two of which had been opened...a whole other thread) and % of wage was on them) never received any more slips so was a while before I realised. Payed back money owed but only after H.R decided 500 pounds a month was a reasonable amount to deduct without my permission sharpish!

Fabby, when it my mum was claiming against her employers, their ability to provide her with copies of things she needed suddenly changed Hmm and records were water damaged/ lost / on the old system...... Hmm if you are claiming something usually YOU have to provide proof rather than the body you're claiming against having to prove that they don't owe you IYKWIM. Similarly with my CCJ, it was my ex land lady who nicked my identity and caused me to have it, what do you think the chances of her providing me with copies of our agreements re bills would have been if I hadn't had my own copy on file eh?

Seepage It's stuff like this that makes me want to run off to live in a teepee in Wales.

In reality I have boxes of paperwork cluttering up the house. One is called 'Death and Taxes'. I hurl my P60s contemptuously into there every year. In between the cats nest on top of them.

I'm sure your employer will try to give you a copy if you ask. Good luck. Smile

Previously (excellent name BTW) - so glad i'm not the only one.

I don't know why I need it. Just got a letter from the tax bods asking for it. Sincerely hope they want to give me money rather than taking it off me. If it is the former I may have to go and live in a teepee in Wales.

Hope it is a rebate...fingers crossed for you.
