AIBU?

...to start another doughnut related thread

Sorry about that. It was me who started the KrispyKreme thread a few weeks ago but I am not doughnut obsessed, honestly! I only buy them on Fridays for a tea-time treat, and even then not every Friday.

Right here is the thing. I have just been in the Tesco metro near where I work to buy a bag of five jam-filled doughnuts, which cost 60p. As I picked them up I noticed that there were two other varieties of doughnut also on sale so I decided to investigate.

A bag of five custard-filled doughnuts came in slightly cheaper at 55p.

Then the third variety I could see cost 70p for five. "What's in those?" I though, as you would. Well I was slightly flabbergasted to see that they were mere ring doughnuts.

Now, AIBU to wonder why, if you can get doughnuts filled with custard for 11p each and doughnuts filled with jam for 12p each, anyone would shell out 14p for a doughnut filled with nothing - not even doughnut!!

Explanations anyone?

I bought a pack of 24 Krispy Kremes on Friday eve on a trip to London. By Sunday eve they were gone. Felt sick, swore to never eat them again.
Just been on website to see what flavors they have for when I go next week.

I'm going to the seaside tomorrow for a week and I'm going to eat a doughnut as soon as I spot one. :)

God I want doughnuts now! Been feeling v low recently (combo of quiet in one job, too busy in the other, run down and knackered and no social life as a result) and all I want to do is drink tea and eat junk food.

I don't like Krispy Kremes though ? they just taste like rancid fat to me, and leave a horrid greasy film in my mouth ? but could murder a huge box of supermarket bakery-type jam ones.

The best, though, are little ring doughnuts made in front of you and dipped in sugar while they're hot.

Wow. I like the ones at the sea side best. freshly made and hot, covered in sugar. After a couple they seem to make your teeth stick together and clogg up/dry up your mouth.

You know, if you like I could become a chief mn doughnut tester. You could send me all the varieties you come across (preferably not all at once) and I will report back. It would be a hard job, but for the sake of us all, it is one I would be willing to take on.

And anyway, whatever the cost aren't bags of doughnuts 2 for a £1 in Tesco. They were in ours this morning.

After reading this thread, wish I hadn't skirted round them.

Ring doughnuts cost more 'cos they have to pay the doughnut elf to remove the bit of dough in the middle Smile

When my DS3 was little, he asked the baker if he could have a bag of the 'missing bits' from the middle of the ring donuts Grin

Chandon I am indeed in Sweden and may very well be eating brownies (cake not children variety) with cream later :o

Linerunner thanks, a result of 2 years imprisonment in a Sainsbury's instore bakery. Whole weeks spent in the doughnut corner doing nothing but putting the jam in.

I don't like doughnuts of any description.
I upset someones choice theory lecture as they had bought doughnuts for all members of the class, about 40 students, because "everybody likes doughnuts". Not me.

Would you all give over. Now I've got to drive to the supermarket to get something for dinner despite there being a freezer full of food. This may involve strolling past the bakery counter in a nonchalant kind of way.

I call DS1 my Krispi Kreme baby because of the size of him when born and the direct correlation possible link to the number of custard filled choccy ones I had in the last trimester Blush :o

OP - if you want to be truly genius, buy the jammy or custard doughnuts, cut out and scoff the middles, then take the now ring-ed doughnuts back to the shop and ask for your money back. You will not only make money on your original purchase, but will also have the joy of the jammy or custardy middles for free too. Genius and not to mention Foolproof. >>dribbles deleriously to self

I wasn't a doughnut fan until a few months ago when I tried a pippin's doughnut which were being sold on a stall at my local farmers market.......cannot rate them highly enough. All sorts of fillings, some glazed....all delicious.

Fresh doughnuts straight from cooking - they are hard to beat, aren't they? Iced apple doughnuts sound lovely - I've never even seen one let alone tasted it.
