atyourcervix thank you for suggesting the campaign, I'm sorry to see it didn't get much notice! It is such a horrible experience for so many women, I think it would be an extremely worthwhile campaign for MN.
It does seem like one of the biggest problems is just not enough staff. Is this a funding problem or a management problem, or both?
But I don't think that's the whole story. Yes the midwives I saw were very busy, I know that means delays and I wouldn't really complain about that alone. But most of them were also nasty, rude and unhelpful.
I just didn't see a lot of logic going on. If you know you don't have the resources to help me with BF then please stop telling me over and over I have to do it. What's the point? I saw cleaners constantly sweeping up already clean floors but no one cleaned the blood out of the loo for ages. I'm sure there's some NHS regulation to explain that but come on, it's really disgusting having blood in the loos.
I think the biggest help would be more private rooms or at least smaller wards. That would solve a lot of problems, women could probably get more sleep, less noise, less annoying visitors, etc. But I know that's never going to happen.
So I don't know what can be done. Perhaps someone could fund a survey asking women about their experiences, if only 10% said it was positive then maybe that would put some pressure on people.
