I think this sort of thing creates a dangerous precedent.
Don’t get me wrong, if someone is guilty of a crime they need to be brought to justice.
But the truth is that no charges were brought here. And yet here people are in a position where they’re essentially hanging a man out to dry based on an allegation which was unproven.
Yes, an allegation was made. Do we know it was true? No we don’t.
And the reality is that the more we become a society where we start on the assumption that someone is guilty until proven innocent as opposed to the other way around, the more we create a platform for people to feel enabled to ruin someone’s life and gain notoriety in their own right with a false allegation, especially a celebrity.
Let’s not pretend that there aren’t people out there who absolutely do and have made false allegations against celebrities. It happens whether we like to admit it or not.
These kinds of details need to be kept out of the press until proper investigations are carried out. And if there are no charges, then these details should never become public knowledge. Ever.
