Soup makers, worthwhile?

I was making soup for lunch today and found myself thinking about soup makers. Coming in to autumn I usually make a batch of soup for lunches, I work from home and soup is an easy, healthy winters lunch for me so I was thinking I could set it up and have fresh soup instead of freezing and defrosting.

If you have a soup maker do you use it, is the soup consistently good, can you set it to be ready at a particular time. Or is it something that sounds like a good idea and then sits at the back of a cupboard for most of the year? I don’t tend to collect appliances (no microwave or air fryer here) but something that makes life easier and delivers lunch when I’m ready sounds like a good idea

I use my slow cooker and stick blender too, I’m happy doing that but don’t have soup that often and when I do it’s for 4 or 5 people so making a large amount is fine.

my DIL has a soup maker, ninja I think, she works from home, and unlike my son, loves her soup. She makes up soup bags at the weekend and pops them in the freezer, then in the morning drops one into the machine sets the timer and comes down at lunch time to soup. It has a keep warm function, so if she’s held up on the phone it doesn’t matter. She absolutely loves her soup maker says it invaluable as she gets a hot nourishing meal with little effort.

Don your hard hat, OP. You will be told that "all you need is a stick blender" and that you are ruining the planet by buying a soupmaker.

I went through all that, bought one anyway, and love it in the winter. It sautes the onions, then I add the indredients, and 20 mins later - soup!!

I came on to say exactly this. I got told on here they’re a waste and there’s no need, but I got one last winter and absolutely love it.

You see - and I'm not trying to be difficult here - how is that significantly quicker or easier than doing it in a pot? You still have to prepare the veg, which is by far the most time-consuming bit for me, but that can be done ahead of time if necessary, however you're going to prepare the soup. Standing over the sauteing veg and stirring occasionally takes a few minutes, and the kettle can be boiling to make the stock during this time, if using bouillon powder, stock cube or stockpot. Add other veg, add stock and seasoning - work of seconds and then I leave it to simmer. Easy to assess whether it's done and to check for seasoning.

I have one and love it. I find it much easier and quicke although sometimes make a lovely Minestrone in a saucepan.

I love mine, it's the one gadget that is used consistently and not shoved to the back of a cupboard. I have soup for lunch most days other than in the summer, was only saying the other day I'll be back on soup again soon. Mine has a clean programme which makes cleaning it easy. Love just being able to put everything on and leave it to do it's thing and have nice soup 21 minutes later.

I was a pan and stick blender person for years, cursed husband when he bought me a soup maker for Christmas. LOVE IT, use it all the time when the weather isn’t too hot for soup. I have a Morphy Richard’s kettle style one - 1.6L, I think? Four good portions.

I love mine and use it regularly - it’s bit like an air fryer in that you don’t realise how handy they are until you have one.

Just chuck your veg and stock in, walk away & get on with whatever else you’re doing, 20 mins and it’s all done & will keep warm til you are ready to eat. Perfect for working from home or when you are popping out - coming home to warm ready to eat soup on a winters day is fab!

I’m on my second one now - I highly recommend getting a self cleaning one which is the icing on the cake !

20 mins later it’s fine & keeps it warm

I love mine. I mainly use frozen veg and have never had a bad outcome. It stays warm for ages and I can potter about, leave the house if I need be and it’s ready when I am. I also use it to make home made pasta sauce, which my dc love. Also good for last minute guests as you can have fresh soup ready in 20 mins.
