Mumsnetters of the world - can you send postcards please

I work in a bilingual creche with children aged 0 to 3 years old, in Brittany, France. Just like all the other children in the world we are currently on lockdown.

Our project this year is the world. Because of the lockdown the only thing (apart from play) our little ones can do is go for a walk to our post box every day which is at the bottom of the car parkSmile

I wondered if kind mumsnetters and their children would send us postcards from the towns, cities and countries where they live. We have a world map on the wall and we've received some cards from friends abroad already.

The children love to receive the cards, look at the picture and talk about who sent them.

We would be really grateful, you can write in French or English 🤣

Our address is

Le P'tit Club, 3 Rue de la Ferme de Talhouët, 56250 Saint-Nolff, France

Thanks so much

What a wonderful idea!

I’ll send one from Australia but judging from the post coming from the UK to me, you won’t get it until 2021!

Greydove28 · 11/11/2020 00:21

Will do

brittanyfairies · 11/11/2020 15:33

No postcards today as it's a bank holiday here in France.

I thought you might like to hear something about the children to whom you're sending the cards.

There are in fact currently 3 Ptit Clubs. St Nolff where you're sending the cards is the newest and is 18 months old. We have 35 children aged from 10 weeks to about 3.5 years.

We have a lovely setting with a beautiful garden in quite a rural location. The children are regularly entertained by a tractor in the fields opposite the creche. Once a week a bin lorry goes past and this creates immense excitement. Nowadays the drivers know how to play to their audience with lots of beeping and flashing lights.

We are about 10 minutes from the small city of Vannes and of course the sea. Pre covid we would take the bus and visit the market and the port. We also visited an old people's home, which was wonderful and various other places.

I was one of the original employees for the English bilingual project 5 years ago. At the beginning nobody really knew how it would shape out but it's turned into something quite wonderful. Our babies and children hear English on a daily basis and equally with French in the creche. If they learn the word for something first in english then that becomes their go to word.

By the time they are 2.5 and are ready for school their English comprehension is superb. I forget I'm speaking to french children. A lot of them reply in English and we sometimes have funny little conversations where I speak English, they speak French.

Their favourite english books are My Mum and My Dad by Anthony Browne and Brown Bear, Brown Bear. Their absolute favourite is called We All Go Travelling By or as the children call it the bus or the beep beep book.

Current favourite songs are I Hear Thunder since Storm Alex, but old McDonalds Farm and Row Your Boat get a good response. We've currently been singing Baby Shark but I just do that because it annoys my boss.Grin

I think we are quite a progressive creche and have been featured on french national early evening news. They put subtitles for me when I spoke in French (and I thought I'd done so well).

We have a different theme each year and this year because of covid it's the World hence he postcards. Next week is Canada where we will dress in red and white, eat Canadian food and do canadian themed activities.

To advance out English project I'd like to form a link with an English nursery where we can share pictures, songs, stories etc. Sort of like a creche/nursery twinning thing. If you know of a nursery who might be interested please do not hesitate to drop me a line.

Thanks again for the postcards, we're looking forward to the postie's visit tomorrow.

How wonderful your creche and the English bilingual project sound!

This thread deserves a bump - I do hope it leads to the nursery twinning thing happenning.

This really made me smile. You have a lovely style of writing brittanyfairies.

Hi all, 3 cars to day thank you for today.

1 from Scotland with a picture of the Kelpies - wow amazing. I think we're planning a works day out to see these.

One from the Isle of Man, I think it was from Caroline but the little girl who took the card from the letter box wasn't going to hand it over for anything.

And a card from London which had a picture of big Ben and a London bus and told us the Cutty Sark looked like a pirate ship. Which was excellent timing because we'd read Teatime for Pirates just before lunch.

This made me all nostalgic. I grew up in Central London and my nursery was next to the barracks where the Queen's Guard were based. One of the nursery nurses was going out with one of the soldiers, and she got them to play nursery rhymes for us when they marched passed.

This is so lovely, little kindnesses like that cost nothing and yet mean so much.

Yay! You got mine!

I'm so happy!

I'm glad the children have been enjoying them.

You've done a lovely thing, brittany

FlouncerInDenial · 14/11/2020 19:53

@BikeRunSki

I’ll send you another from Yorkshire. I live very close to a big tv transmitter on a hill. It’s a local landmark, that you can see for 20 miles or so. Everyone says they are home when they can see it.
I know it, @BikeRunSki I don't live in Yorkshire, but we have friends we visit there. As you say, we always know we are nearly there when we see it.
ritzbiscuits · 15/11/2020 21:19

Oh my, I've just had a battle with Postsnap website but it's eventually confirmed my postcard order! It didn't like the ' in P'tit, so had to miss it out in the end!

We have Irish ( Gaelic ) preschools, primary schools and secondary schools here in ireland, where all teaching/learning is done through the Irish language.
I presume it is the same in Scotland and Wales.

Went to the post box this afternoon with 2 little girls, both called Azilys, and there were several cards waiting for us. So a big thank you for the following cards:

1 from Finland home of Santa claus with a reindeer on the front and Rudolph hiding in the card.

Another from Lilja in Helsinki, Finland with Moomin family stickers. I'm not sure I want to share those.

One from Mittenwald with lots of pictures of snow.

2 from Abi and her mindees in York - they loved the sheep picture.

1 of the Giant's Causeway - I will google the story to tell the children

A beautiful card from Canada (at the beginning of Canada week) with all the flowers of Canada. I did find the flower with three petals, gold star for me🤣

And from GE with a picture of Ullswater. So beautiful. One of my colleagues said it reminded her of a film with a boy and a dragon who went under water. I have no idea what she's talking about, but she loved the picture.

I'll probably paint a picture next week with the children to say thank you and load a photo on here for you all to see.

Thanks again we're loving and my colleagues keep saying "Brittany you have so many friends "Grin
