My dad made the best French toast. He just had some sort of gift for it.

I know how to make it, but it’s just not the same!

Shortbread! Why can't I make shortbread?!

Megan2018 · 25/07/2020 18:08

Cottage Pie (or Shepherds)- always comes out dry and awful.
Rice of all types

pastapestoparmesan · 25/07/2020 18:08

I can make lovely rolls or a pizza base, but cannot make a decent loaf of bread. I also can’t make soup, which is meant to be extremely easy.

totallyyesno · 25/07/2020 18:09

Yorkshire puddings - at least I have a four pudding tray and there is always one that doesn't work!
Cacio e pepe - I love this pasta dish and it is always horrible when I try it at home. Completely inedible.

Layoverlife · 25/07/2020 18:12

For me it's stir fry, it's either a big soggy mess or bland as hell. I've bought many sauces and woks to cook it in, it ends up a huge dissappointment and in the bin every single time. I've given up 😭

namechangenumber204 · 25/07/2020 19:08

Omelettes I can make and they are brilliant (shame I don't like them) - whisk egg whites until fluffy then add the yolks - put in frying pan and when the bottom is cooked chuck under a hot grill (still in pan) and brown the top. it is always light and fluffy :)
I also makes the most superb gravy. And mashed potatoes. Other than that I am a pretty meh cook...

DDiva · 25/07/2020 19:09

DDiva · 25/07/2020 19:09

Bargainhuntbore · 25/07/2020 19:12

FredaFox · 25/07/2020 19:19

Bisto 😂 not history

Thingsarel00kingup · 25/07/2020 19:32

Poached eggs Blush I'm usually a good cook but can NEVER get poached eggs right. Tried all methods too. My DH is a lousy cook (his words, true) but makes amazing poached eggs!

Always comes out delicious.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 25/07/2020 19:46

Mayonnaise. Last time I tried I wasted 6 eggs constantly adding just one more to fix it, them had to throw the whole watery mess down the drain.

gramercie · 25/07/2020 20:14

Poached eggs are very hard.

My trick for omelettes is to cook on the hob then put under the grill! No faffing turning or messing around. Sprinkle some cheese on the top and put back under the grill, lovely :)

breadcakebiscuits · 25/07/2020 20:22

See my user name.

Unfortunately also my favourite things to eat.

BoxAndKnife · 25/07/2020 20:47

My lasagne always comes out sloppy. My cauliflower cheese is always watery and bland.

I make gorgeous scones though - light, fluffy and buttery. And I can whip up a luscious risotto.

Mmmmdanone · 25/07/2020 20:55

I have an amazing Yorkshire pudding tip! Put the batter into those silicone cupcake things and they RISE like you wouldn't believe. You're welcome!

FedUpWithCovid · 25/07/2020 21:04

Meringue- tried loads of recipes inc Delia
Yorkshirepuds
Poached eggs
Macaroons

octobersky19 · 25/07/2020 21:09

Risotto, I just can't do it

QueenAnnesHat · 25/07/2020 21:37

Caramel - just the sugar and water stuff for the bottom of Creme caramel, or for honeycomb. It either turns grainy or I overcook it and it tastes burnt.

Almostfifty · 25/07/2020 21:50

@gramercie An extra egg in the Yorkshire pudding mix makes such a difference. I also wasn't good at scones, but Paul Hollywood's are belters. You need bread flour and a lot of baking powder.

tinytemper66 · 25/07/2020 21:54

I can not make Welsh cakes!

evilharpy · 25/07/2020 21:59

Flapjacks. They always fall apart into a crumbly mess.
