My dad made the best French toast. He just had some sort of gift for it.

I know how to make it, but it’s just not the same!

I can make lovely rolls or a pizza base, but cannot make a decent loaf of bread. I also can’t make soup, which is meant to be extremely easy.

Yorkshire puddings - at least I have a four pudding tray and there is always one that doesn't work!
Cacio e pepe - I love this pasta dish and it is always horrible when I try it at home. Completely inedible.

For me it's stir fry, it's either a big soggy mess or bland as hell. I've bought many sauces and woks to cook it in, it ends up a huge dissappointment and in the bin every single time. I've given up 😭

Omelettes I can make and they are brilliant (shame I don't like them) - whisk egg whites until fluffy then add the yolks - put in frying pan and when the bottom is cooked chuck under a hot grill (still in pan) and brown the top. it is always light and fluffy :)
I also makes the most superb gravy. And mashed potatoes. Other than that I am a pretty meh cook...

Poached eggs Blush I'm usually a good cook but can NEVER get poached eggs right. Tried all methods too. My DH is a lousy cook (his words, true) but makes amazing poached eggs!

Mayonnaise. Last time I tried I wasted 6 eggs constantly adding just one more to fix it, them had to throw the whole watery mess down the drain.

My trick for omelettes is to cook on the hob then put under the grill! No faffing turning or messing around. Sprinkle some cheese on the top and put back under the grill, lovely :)

My lasagne always comes out sloppy. My cauliflower cheese is always watery and bland.

I make gorgeous scones though - light, fluffy and buttery. And I can whip up a luscious risotto.

I have an amazing Yorkshire pudding tip! Put the batter into those silicone cupcake things and they RISE like you wouldn't believe. You're welcome!

Caramel - just the sugar and water stuff for the bottom of Creme caramel, or for honeycomb. It either turns grainy or I overcook it and it tastes burnt.

@gramercie An extra egg in the Yorkshire pudding mix makes such a difference. I also wasn't good at scones, but Paul Hollywood's are belters. You need bread flour and a lot of baking powder.

Flapjacks. They always fall apart into a crumbly mess.
