DD is 9 in February. She has pointed out some fidget toys and stationery she wants but apart from that and clothes I don't know. She has stuff for her room last year, desk and chair, bean bag, tv then an Alexa for her birthday. It's getting more and more difficult. She already had a bike the year before and has a scooter. She likes our generation and liked the school but it's £150 on its own and I'm not convinced it will get played with much.

My DD8 (nearly 9) is getting a new scooter, a (second hand) laptop, clothes, books, a squishamallow and a stocking with some fidget toys and sweets. My DD8 has never really been into dolls, but still loves her soft toys. She had an oodie for her birthday which she loves. It is getting harder now she isn't growing out of stuff as quickly!

Around this age DD really loved the following (presents for her or friends' gifts she was jealous of):

  • Big set of watercolour pencils
  • huge pack of different pastel coloured card blanks to make her own cards
  • children's origami book which came with beautiful origami paper
  • bodyboard and a second-hand wetsuit (we spend quite a lot of time at the beach)
  • soap-making kit
  • Harry Potter stuff from Primark
  • books of simple Harry Potter and Christmas Carol music to learn to play
  • ultra soft fleece throw to snuggle under on the sofa (also excellent planning given fuel bill rises!)
  • tickets to local pantomime
  • tickets to Harry Potter studios
  • wire frame thing for her wall from Home Bargains, so she can clip up drawings, photos, cards etc
  • various things relating to her hobbies
  • cinema giftcard with enough on it to take a friend and buy popcorn
  • an old iPhone of DH's with no SIM, set up with full parental controls and wifi access so she can Skype friends, watch YouTube Beta version (although she rarely does!), and play music we have downloaded for her.
  • inline skates
  • hovercart (it is a seg board that turns into a kart)
  • little drone toy to fly indoors
  • games variously: Santorini, Labrynth, Harry Potter Cluedo, more Top Trumps, Twister, Articulate for kids
  • a bottle of nail polish
  • a bum bag
  • a Hype lunchbox
  • a snood

I got my 10 year old child with SEN and dyspraxia, and who cannot even ride a bike a pogo stick.

He was baffled. DH was baffled. I muttered about Santa maybe having had a glass of wine before hitting Amazon.

But his same aged cousin loves it.

My son is 9 and has SEN. He is literally amazing on a pogo stick. No joke can bounce maybe 400-500 times. His brother can do about 3 before falling off.

Mine are getting a nintendo switch. They love their amazon alexa, liferyder scooter, and hoverboard.
Also got them a next version of oodie and they have hardly taken it off since

My DD is 8 and turns 9 after Xmas

Her list (to include gifts from family)

Harry Potter ‘stuff’

So far I’ve looked at Harry Potter lego, wands, games and puzzles, dolls, invisibility cloak, soft toys - she’s obsessed with Hedwig. So should be plenty there. Will pick some of this up for her.
Roblox - robux, adopt me play set, t shirt and hoody
Nintendo switch games - mario superstars, Lugis mansion, or any Mario game she hasn’t already got.
Squishes and fidgets
Books - horrible histories, treehouse collection, - will look on books2door website as they do some nice book sets
She’s asked for an out generatjon doll but never had one. Not sure whether to start with this as look expensive.
She has lots of Barbie/lol dolls already and we’ve had previous Xmas/birthday where all presents have been about these. Will get her maybe a omg doll/Barbie as she does still play with these but not as much now.
New PJs/onesie m/dressing gown
Grown up drawing/art set

My DD is also 9 in February. So far for Christmas I have got:

Glitter Cath Kidston backpack (got in closing down sale last year);
Glitter LED light for her room;
Harry Potter Lego;
Gravitymaze and Blokus games (shoutout to the Christmas bargains threads!)
Lego dots set
Harry Potter top
Books
Bits and pieces including stocking stuff.

DD also wants:
Switch and Animal Crossing
A hamster
A cat
A baby sibling

Only the Switch is likely and even that’s a bit expensive for me Wink

I still need to get:
Battery-operated hamster in plastic ball toy (she also wants this if a real hamster is not appearing 😂)
Some Harry Potter sweets
I’m going to ask my parents to get her a Hermione wand.

She gets more low-value things on her birthday, and for that I’ve already got:

Fairy lights
Music box
Couple of little jewellery items
Watch
Anne of Green Gables book set
Mini gumball machine
Table tennis bat and ball set
And she’ll be getting art materials and new colouring pencils, and possibly some more Lego, from grandparents/aunts.

Last birthday/Christmas gifts included Gemex, bath bomb kit, crystal growing kit, science sets, Gravitrax. She already has a bike and scooter.

All her friends are into similar stuff - Harry Potter, board games, books, Lego, science kits, bath bomb kits, that kind of thing.

Look on fb and eBay for our generation stuff, that’s what I did when my DDs started to like it. I got a huge bundle for Christmas a few years back. They had no idea it was 2nd hand. Designafriends is a cheaper option and just as nice.

This year my 9yo really wants a switch. We have also ordered her a fidget advent calendar. This is everything we’ve got her, it looks a lot but a lot of it I’ve bought in sales throughout the year.

Switch plus game
Oodie
Zamfam nighty
HP tshirt/nighty
HP box writing set
HP Voldermort diary
HP pen & notebook
Ravenclaw headband
Eyeshadows & nail file
Snitch lip balm
Tree pop it
Sports watch
Yoda pop it
HP painting sheets

My girls are 9 and 8.

DD1 would like a new scooter but I might wait until her birthday in the new year to get that.

Both collect beanie boos so will get one of those.
Converse or trainers

No idea what else! Probably lots of little things rather than a main present.

Amazon do little amiibo cards that interact with the switch and animal crossing. My 9 year old absolutely loves them.
