What Mumsnet users say

“We bought a Globber for our five-year-old daughter after much research and trying out of scooters. It’s been brilliant so far and the handle has extended as she’s grown.” Tried and tested by Mumsnetter PiafPilaf

Our verdict

Fun and flashy, the Globber Primo Foldable Scooter is a great first independent set of wheels for kids aged from three years. It has a large, easy-to-operate rear footbrake and the steering can be locked until your little one gets the hang of scooting. The height of the handlebar can be adjusted, so the Globber will grow with your child, but whether they will still be enthralled by the flashing red, green and blue wheels when they hit their tweenage years is another matter.

Although the Globber may not have the same street cred as a Micro Scooter, it is a robust and dependable first scooter, plus it folds for convenient storage and transport when little legs get tired.

What’s the Globber Primo Foldable Scooter like to assemble?

I found the Globber Primo Foldable Scooter quick and easy to assemble. It is also very easy to raise the handlebars to grow with your child (to a maximum height of 83.5cm from the ground). To fold the scooter, press a button at the base of the steering column, twist the T-bar and push down to fold.

What’s the Globber Primo Foldable Scooter like to look at?

The scooter comes with LED flashing wheels and a flashing deck. These are powered by kinetic energy, meaning the more the child scoots, the more the lights flash.

Although the Globber has a fun and colourful look, some Mumsnetters have commented that the design looks rather child-like when compared next to the Micro Scooters Mini Micro (ages 2-5 years) and the Maxi Micro Foldable (ages 5-12 years).

What’s the Globber Primo Foldable Scooter like in day-to-day use?

For kids new to scooting, the Globber Primo is a great choice. With three wheels, a sturdy, reinforced low deck for stability, handlebar grips and of course that chunky footbrake, kids will be able to take things at their own pace. There is a button located between the two front wheels that will lock the steering to help keep the rider on the straight and narrow. For more confident riders, like my six-year-old, the lock can be taken off, allowing kids more freedom when scooting.

The pavements where we live are riddled with cracks, potholes and bumps, but for its child-like appearance, the Globber is actually made of pretty tough stuff and handled this uneven terrain with ease.

When the kids decided they had had enough, the Globber was easy to fold down and carry back home. For those with limited storage space at home, this particular feature will be an utter godsend.

Is the Globber Primo Foldable Scooter good value for money?

With prices starting form £65 at the time of writing (April 2nd, 2024), I would say yes, the Globber Primo is good value for money. In comparison, the Maxi Micro Deluxe Foldable Scooter is £138, or a few pounds less if you want to opt for the non-foldable version.

If you are looking for a first set of wheels for a young child who is new to scooting, the sturdy and reliable Globber Primo will offer reassurance to both child and parent alike.
