We want all domestic abuse-related deaths to be recognised and investigated as potential homicides from the outset, through changes to legislation, national policing guidance and oversight mechanisms.

We are proud that Jhiselle Feanny, Co-Founder of Killed Women, features in Stacey Dooley’s Fallen Women. This important BBC documentary shares the story behind our Fallen Women campaign and Jhiselle’s years of work seeking answers and change following the death of her sister, Bianca ‘Bee’ Thomas.

The documentary explores the deaths of women following falls from height, the potential role of domestic abuse and the questions that can arise about how these deaths are investigated.

To coincide with the broadcast, we have published our new 24-page national report, ‘Fallen Women – Bee’s Law’, led and authored by Jhiselle. Drawing on national policing data and new Freedom of Information research, the report sets out the case for a consistent, precautionary investigative response where domestic abuse might be involved.

Thanks for this, I will watch it and well done to the Killed Women team and Stacey Dooley for highlighting this.

Thanks for this. A friend’s sister was killed by her partner in this way (he was jailed for life). The thought of what she went through makes my blood run cold. I hope he is suffering in there.

This made me think of Laura Sadler.

Sahar Daftary was another woman who died after falling from a 12th floor balcony. Her partner (who was married) says she jumped but the inquest recorded an open verdict. It's certainly not something that police should rule out and assume that the woman has jumped to her death.

I didn't know this was 'A Thing' - is it saying that women dying from falls are victims of domestic abuse and murder rather than accidents? The announcement mentions 39 deaths - have these resulted in charges or is it just that there reasons to suspect foul play?

I did find that announcement not terribly clear in what it was saying happened, but on the other hand, I'm overtired and a little hard of thinking today.

I'm all for anything shining a light on the scale of domestic abuse and femicide.

They are saying many are suspicious deaths but often not treated as such from the beginning.

So evidence may well have been missed of lost which later investigation cannot make up for.

Jesus. Thank you for this. I don't know why I'd never thought that many "accidental" deaths of women are probably domestic abuse murders. I guess I always thought once there was an actual body he wouldn't be able to cover it up. But of course given all the other ways abusive men get the "benefit of the doubt" it would be very weird if it wasn't happening for murder as well.

'The documentary explores the deaths of women following falls from height...'

This reminds me of a programme I watched once where a plastic surgeon was helping women who had suffered 'kitchen accidents' and 'battery acid accidents', and everyone in the surgical team knew that the injuries were not accidents.
