India Willoughby - can we take a moment an address the increasing hysteria and vile comments on their social media - X in particular.

In the past 24 hours he has slated Nick Wallis, JKR, Helen Joyce, Maya Forstater this list goes on.

It really feels at this stage that a close one to India should stage an intervention.

A trans woman reacting to transphobia does not need an intervention.

When you are part of a minority and see people attacking that minority - usually for profit, and to further careers built on the same - you're going to react. It's night follows day stuff.

Nah, he's always been like this. He's just horrible about women. Probably stems from envy and low self esteem, which you can understand, but doesn't excuse it.

BlueLegume · Yesterday 15:19

Where is the transphobia? A phobia is an irrational fear of something which in reality poses little threat. Men who say they are women first and foremost are lying and secondly refuse to respect our personal boundaries around single sex spaces.

Additionally my comments on this thread are a concern that IW is in a bad place with threats re the refusal of treatment should he become unwell are clearly asking if he needs help and support and if he has some. It cannot be that everyone in his orbit is fully onboard that he is a woman. I assume he has a prostate. That is a man thing. If he experiences prostate issues that is a male condition.

He wants to be put on female ward. Boundary crossed.

I can recommend him an excellent book to take those scowls away.
Shape Your Self by Martina Navratilova - Hachette Australia

I recommend the Netflix documentary 'Chris & Martina the final set' for the potted history of everything Martina has achieved. (Also worth watching Chris Evert's story too!)

Lots of archive footage. I lived through it all, but was too young in the 70s to really understand.

Truly an icon.

People who see hate and phobia where it doesn't exist do need help, and that observation is not restricted to Willoughby.

For those worried about Willoughby and wondering why his family aren't stepping in to help (I understand he has a son) the Children of Transitioners group have written repeatedly about how it can be hard to maintain relationships with a parent who transitions due to the parent's behaviour, whether in public or behind closed doors:

eg if a dad's fantasies (often of a misogynistic / sexual nature) and denial of shared reality are not validated by female partners and children, it can lead to coercion and domestic abuse, and full or partial estrangement.

Don't know if that's relevant here or what Willoughby's family support is like.

I think the Chris Evert+Martina Navratilova friendship is epic - all those on-court battles, and Chris refusing to join in the Martina-bashing when she came out as a lesbian; then both dealing with retirement, and both dealing with cancer.

(in Chris's case, it's back for a worrying third time..)

There's something really sweet about how they've remained friends, not close friends, I doubt if they're around each other's houses for tea a lot, but they seem to have a very solid bond.

Sorry, this is a derail, isn't it? Blame IW's reference to Martina and her tennis bat, or her cricket racquet, or whatever it was...😄

India is perfectly happy to attack other minorities when it suits him, yet a certain type of person is very quick to defend him. Why anyone would defend a racist misogynist, whichever 'gender' they identify as, is beyond me. It says a lot about someone if they're prepared to support someone like that, I find.

Margaritaaahhh · Yesterday 15:59

Wow. His replies here. He's always been an aggressive misogynist but he's getting worse by the hour. He sounds deranged and actually quite dangerous.

Irl he's hunched and wizened and always has a scowl on his face.

I've noticed that he has always hunched so that he doesn't stand head and shoulders above the women. This would play havoc with your back. He definitely doesn't look like a 30 year old woman!

And that's with filters

You think those are the posts of a mentally well-balanced and rational person, and perfectly understandable/acceptable?

I think you're in the minority there. Even a lot of trans people find Willoughby too much.

Middle aged white men are not a minority group.

It really does show the misogyny up. IW has zero affinity with women. Never has. Never will. Doesn't want it.

He just wants to inhabit his hopelessly sexist version of what a woman is.

Ray Blanchard claimed that all men transition for sexual reasons. AGP to fetishise women's oppression and HSTS in order to attract a male partner.

IW's antics on BB demonstrated both the dislike of actual women and the delusion that straight men are viable partners.

And now the world is wising up.

Little wonder he's losing it.

I would be fearful around anyone displaying this level of rage. His bio says he is a women’s rights campaigner. If this is his campaigning style count me out thank you.

That’s the first time I’ve seen that video where his BB co-star rejected his kiss. Funny how when he thought the women in the house didn’t think he was a woman, they got shouted at, whereas when the men didn’t see him as a woman, they just got a quite lecture/moan and the threat of a kiss.

ExtraHotDoubleShot · Yesterday 17:29

BlueLegume · Yesterday 12:50

Still think he does need some help. His rants are bordering on manic now. He is not helping convince anyone that trans is in any way healthy.

Op this is just typical male behaviour.

They don’t get exactly what they want, women say no, so the threats/anger/deranged behaviour comes out.

He doesn’t need help, he needs to stop being a raging paranoid misogynist like probably 30% of men do

SiegfriedSassoon · Yesterday 17:31

Life's tough for his ilk when they get old and wrinkly. He's built his life on the shifting sand rather than solid ground, it was never going to last. Sadly it's only going to get worse on his current trajectory. All he had was attention and positive affirmation, with that withdrawn.. he hasn't really got much left. It would be hard to know what to advice him from this point, he needs complete rehabilitation.

Yes, that's a good point.

Hedgehogforshort · Yesterday 18:03

I just think he is vile, and I could not care any less for him.

i am more annoyed that BB played a game i have no idea if the women knew what they would be confronted with. But whatever, it was quite deliberate that all the women in question were mature.

i found it despicable at the time and was pleased when he got chucked out. you know the nation saw it for what it is, he displayed exactly what we have always been saying.

Not from the men in my life it isn’t

I agree. The "can do no wrong" approach does no one any favours at all. People are welcome to be concerned about him, but defend him? Really?

He lives very close to me. I see him out and about quite a lot. Irl he's hunched and wizened and always has a scowl on his face. He looks like a septuagenarian Chucky permanently stuck in a wind tunnel.

His attacks on women for looking 'old' and 'ugly' are, frankly, astonishing.

How close is very close? 😬

WhereYouLeftIt · Yesterday 20:14

I seem to remember, at the start of Willoughby's 'journey', he got quite a lot of work. TV appearances, magazine interviews - quite the career. And then it dried up. And it dried up for a reason - he really had nothing to offer the media, other than 'I'm trans'. And once he's done one interview on that, there's nothing else there to interview him on. Similarly with the TV appearances - he had nothing to offer beyond hectoring. Anybody else would have been dropped too, having had their 15 minutes of fame; but of course he took this personally and started blaming it all on transphobia, because that's more comfortable than reflection.
Had he reflected, realised a media career needed to be based on more than just being trans, maybe done something to be more; maybe he'd still have a career. Instead, he's a bitter 61 year old man who thinks his heavily-filtered pictures is how people in real life see him. Sad. Delusional. Self-inflicted.

Yes to be strictly fair to him, I don't think he realised how he was coming across.

When he was on woman's hour with Jenni Murray, he seemed oblivious to the sexism behind claiming shaving legs on man was weird, but on a woman was hygienic.

He's swimming in a misogynistic sea, but has absolutely no idea he's wet.
