Decent male staff keep away from women who don't want them in their spaces - this is why women are given the choice in intimate examinations or offered chaperones. Unfortunately however, there are male staff who do sexually assault women, or who pretend to be women and ignore women who only want mento treat them (like a certain Dr Upton) - they obviously come under the heading of 'not decent'.

That's not A Thing. Any patient can refuse treatment from any doctor/nurse/medical staffer at any time - for any reason. They cannot demand they do not go into 'their spaces' because it is not their space. A single sex ward refers to the patients - not the staff. One individual cannot demand no member of the opposite sex does not enter to treat others.

Oh well, it's sad times for totino et al.

Peculiar. It’s not been published where it should be, but it does seem like it could be.

Concerning that it’s a “long read” rather than “guidance”…

'Long read' is the article launching and explaining the guidance document, the launch letter and patient accommodation are more clearly given on this page: https://www.england.nhs.uk/publication/privacy-dignity-and-safety-in-hospital-accommodation/

There will be a similar letter+guidance page for the staff one.

I don't consider spaces with trans and cis women mixed. I consider them women's spaces, which I prefer to SSS, because I don't go in for bioessentialism. I'm actually reeling from how far people are trying to turn the clock back.

Both cis and trans women get abused by men. So they are both safer without them. A trans woman can be dangerous, a cis woman can also be dangerous, but neither compare to men as a group.

I don't think men rape and are violent because of their penis, or because of testosterone or because it's in their genes. It's clearly patriarchy and toxic masculinity, which rejects trans women.

Edited

But a woman is an adult human female and the only criteria to be a TW is to be a male so therefore any space they are both in is a mixed sex space. so what is the difference between a male with a trans identity and one without that makes one safer in female spaces according you your opinion?

The only reason to identify a class is to abolish it.

Cis men commit violence and crimes at a rate that no other group does. I would never question that, it's plainly true. Because they are the dominant group in society with the most power and influence. Trans women can be successful but they can not attain that status.

I reject the idea that a trans women being present is an automatic violation of any women's privacy and dignity. If you say other women can't consent for you that's true, but likewise you cannot revoke consent for all of us either.

Please provide robust evidence that a man putting a dress on and calling himself “she” changes his statistical risk of sex offending or sexual harassment towards women and girls for the better. Otherwise, you don’t have a leg to stand on. But we know that already.

It’s a good job nobody asks you to get involved, in that case.
You’re a buffoon.

I think you're being very insulting to buffoons there.

So you think all spaces should be mixed sex? But if TW say they are unsafe in male spaces, how will they be safe in mixed sex spaces, when the very men whom they are scared of will also be in those spaces?

The same rules apply. Fife ignored them and made staff too scared to report. But we don't know that it actually ever happened - he said he would do it, not that he had done it.

But what rules are they exactly?

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 15/10/2026 22:25

SirChenjins · 15/10/2026 21:52

What rules in NHS Scotland prevented him from treating women who had specifically asked for a female doctor and why was he allowed to ignore them?

You can reject it all you like - survey after survey shows that women overwhelmingly do not want men in their personal spaces.

Oh - and the rate of sexual offending among TIMs is much higher in comparison to the rest of the male prison population.

I don't think sex segregation is feminist. It reinforces the idea that men are inherently violent and that women are inherently vulnerable. You've noticed, I'm sure, that the countries with the strictest sex segregation are also often the ones with the fewest women's rights. But I'll repeat myself and say once again that I don't view trans women as a type of men so it's beside the point.

Women's spaces are essential and should be open for all women, including trans women.

What’s your view on women and men sharing prison cells? If you don’t want sex segregation.

Men are inherently dangerous as a sex class in a way that women aren't, yes. The stats bear that out. Leaving aside the violence, women have the right to privacy and dignity away from men, regardless of how those men present themselves to the world.

Yes exactly.

Hello there.

I can see you believe that transwomen are women and belong in female wards in hospital.

How does the transwoman become female? What with being a natal male.

Just to pick up one point here - are male medical staff not decent? We don't have single sex facilities in the NHS - we have single sex groups of patients.

Given a trans man being raped in a male facility is the only recorded attack involving anyone trans in a hospital - that is absolutely appropriate.

I think you may have forgotten the woman in a women's ward who was raped by a trans-identifying man, after which when she reported it the NHS authorities of that hospital told her it was not possible a man had raped her because no man had been in that ward that night.

Only a man who said he was a woman.

https://www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk/news/politics/hospital-says-patient-could-not-26506744

It was widely reported the following year, but the other reports I have found are behind pay-walls.

To be a transwoman one first has to be male. But of course you know that.

I don't think sex segregation is feminist.

My father was not a feminist, though he had great regard for women, respected their intellect, and was strongly in favour of them gaining equality with men in every field.

He was also strongly in favour of sex segregation in hospital wards, because as a man the last thing he wanted was a lot of women he didn't know seeing him when he was ill and vulnerable. (I know this because I heard him on the subject during his final days, which were spent in hospital. He was very glad all four beds in his side-ward were occupied by other men, not by women.) He didn't have an opinion on men invading women's public lavatories, rape crisis centres, sports, or prisons, because he died before the idea of any of these was suggested. If he'd been alive when it was, I am fairly sure he'd have been quite unable to see how it could possibly be justified, even in the 5% or so of TIMs who'd had their male genitalia removed. But then, he respected women, and would have been one of the good men who stay out so that bad men stand out.

Absolutely - everyone should be safe. Women are less safe when men are in their spaces however - which is why decent men who know , recognise and respect that keep away.
