Glasgow and Clyde Rape Crisis Centre funding shortfall

For those who dont remember or dont know, Glasgow and Clyde RCC was one the centres that broke away from Rape Crisis Scotland which did not support single sex services - see https://www.glasgowclyderapecrisis.org.uk/news/news-on-our-future/

I cant find the thread about how they and a few other RCC in Scotland formed an independent group who shared their view that single sex services are vital.

Sadly they now are not getting the funding they need https://uk.news.yahoo.com/help-us-survive-rape-crisis-040000955.html

'Help us survive': Rape crisis centre warns of more cuts as it launches urgent appeal

Glasgow & Clyde Rape Crisis has warned of further cuts within weeks unless funding is secured as it launches its 50th anniversary For Her appeal.

Cheers, Dr.

I donated and happy to support this service.

However, I had not paid attention to when saying ‘yes’ to gift aid, this signed me up permanently to something called swift aid, an intermediary service handling gift aid for charities. This may be a useful service for the charity, but I prefer not to be permanently signed up to any third party.

You can then unsubscribe from swift aid but they don’t make it easy. Plus, Just Giving automatically sets donations to add nearly 20% as a tip for the platform. I get that some money is required to run it but I wonder how much that tip generates in revenue for the platform?

Anyhow, just drawing attention to these two issues should anyone care.

"Earlier this week, Scottish Government officials met with Glasgow & Clyde Rape Crisis to discuss their commitments to tackling violence against women and girls."

Does the Scottish Gov have funding and they're just not supplying it because they're a female only service?

Will donate later.

There was a time deep in the genderpish era where Mridul Washwa's husband/partner's firm Sacro was awarded contracts for dv services over women-only services. The women only services were told they had ro be gender inclusive.

I do not know if this is still the case, though.

*edit - sacro not serco

Easy fundraising is ace. You just nominate them, and when you shop, they get funds. Our church uses it, they get. Quite a bit of money each month.

Great idea. I will sign up!

They also do 'easyfundraising', which is a similar thing, although I've not encountered it before.

Sorry to hear that. Donated.

226 days to wait for support is horrifying.

IwantToRetire · 14/10/2026 19:47

Its such a terrible situation, for the women struggling to keep these services going.

But horrible for women to know that being able to access support in the event of some terrible attack, it will be entirely pot luck as to whether there is any local contact.

Angry

Doesn't help that there's less opportunities for core/ unrestricted funding grants either...more and more groups vying for smaller and smaller pots, and it's only going to get worse.

alcovecupboards · 14/10/2026 18:54

Is there a link to their fundraiser? I can't see it in either article.

ETA: Found it: https://www.justgiving.com/charity/rapecrisiscentre

Thanks for this, OP.

Absolutely shocking that rape crisis services aren't statutory, but will share their appeal. So many are in such precarious positions.
