Now I hope that this person is found safe and well - but this is not a woman! Why is Samantha being described as a woman? This helps no one, neither the person who is missing nor those searching for him.

Do missing persons notices usually advise the public to call 999 if they think they’ve seen them?

If its a child yes . Bloke in a dress, not so sure

Samantha is obviously male- a trans woman. It isn’t helping finding them by not saying this. I hope Samantha is found- they have a family and friends who must be very worried.

the comments on that facebook post by the police were not helpful, so no wonder they were turned off.

I saw this last night and wanted to be brave and point out it would help if they said Samantha was a man. But Hants Constabulary have turned off commenting. Helpful.

Honestly, in this case I’m not sure how much that’s even necessary. There’s a photo. Say ‘person’.

Dandeloosha · 14/10/2026 08:06

The problem with labelling Samantha a woman is that people will be looking for a woman when Samantha is clearly not one. It’s misleading and unhelpful. Agree that 38 is an unlikely too.

hattie43 · 14/10/2026 08:03

They turned off comments . It’s dangerous insisting she be called a woman because people can clearly see a man so may not realise it’s the missing person .

There was a case mentioned on here a while back where the description was "person"... so police were advising the public to look out for "a person". It was so vague and unhelpful!
Seriously, what's the priority here?

Igmum · 14/10/2026 07:59

Agree. Missing person or missing transwoman but saying woman makes the press release pretty useless.

No reason whatsoever not to describe Samantha as a missing ‘person’ here, is there? Am not convinced about the 38 part either…

It’s hard to see why they didn’t use person. This sort of police notice reminds me of those Daily Mail stories where they share a series of unflattering photos of a celebrity with the headline “Doris Flaunts Her Curves on the Beach” designed to generate a load of “Doris needs to lay off the pies” comments.

Rightsraptor · 14/10/2026 07:56

There are some odd factors apart from 'Samantha' himself of course. I don't think it's usual for the police to get involved so early in a missing person case unless the individual is particularly vulnerable. Which he may well be.

Do missing persons notices usually advise the public to call 999 if they think they’ve seen them?

Not really. It’s usually the non emergency line I think. Unless the person is in danger at the time.
