‘Woman’ missing in Southampton

Now I hope that this person is found safe and well - but this is not a woman! Why is Samantha being described as a woman? This helps no one, neither the person who is missing nor those searching for him.

Exactly. I remember another time this happened, the description said that to be aware the “woman” might be dressed as a man.

This was Derby Evening Telegraph who put out a notice that a rapist has escaped from a prison.

Their article said thr police were on the hunt for a woman who had escaped, and she might be dressed as a man.

It was a man, obviously.

I believe his was one of the first articles on the 'Trans Crime' website when it was first created.

Not sure that asking people to look out for a missing woman is going to help here?

’Samantha’ is obviously male. As evidenced in the latest images released.

Nobody is going to be on the lookout for a woman.

The fact is he's a man and if they really want him found they should be telling the public the truth. No one would look for a man going on the wording of the appeal.
It's a counterfactual narrative, which has already failed him because it has clearly not solved his mental health issues, it's now effectively getting in the way of him being located.
As for the New Puritan deciding to appoint themselves the thought police of the thread, there's a name for people who spend their lives monitoring what others say, and reporting them to the 'authorities', but I won't spell it out and give them a reason to snitch me out as well.

Not being funny but the notice is accompanied by a picture of her. So it’s not as if people won’t know who to look for? I think this thread is in bad taste to be honest, there’s clearly some concern for her and she’s not doing anyone any harm

I think we’re just expecting the police to do their jobs properly. Do they want Samantha found or not? If so, accurate statements and descriptions are very important. Samantha is not a woman so describing them as such is potentially confusing for the public, especially those members of the public who have only heard a radio appeal or seen a headline without seeing the photos.

Original pictures released by police were only of Samantha in make up with blonde hair, and a dress.

The description said a woman with blonde hair, short on one side, last seen around 9am on 11th.

The photos added later show a male bodied person with cropped, balding hair, wearing male clothes, on a train that departed to London at 8.50am on 11th.

All other issues aside, the police actually seem to have added more accurate pictures in response to media concerns.

Nobody is saying Samantha is doing any harm. But Samantha is very clearly a man. Nobody is looking at those pictures and going "oh yes I live in that area I must look out a 38 year old tall blond woman". There's needs to be accurate information not people being kind, looking at a man saying she/her.

There are up to date photos from the day she went missing. For obvious reasons, there is no more up to date photo at this time.

This whole thread is in bad faith, including you.

You talk about other posters being bad faith.

The photos are of a man. You are calling this man she/her. A lot of people do not understand what TM/TW/TIM/TIW means. If you genuinely cared about this man being found you would stop with the inaccurate information.

If the police did their job, they would accurately describe him, put out accurate up to date photos and this thread would not even be here.

This is a clearly vulnerable man and that's who people should be on the lookout for. Not point scoring to get into some weird diversity list by using nonsense language.

People banging on about different things from a different thread are not posting in good faith.

I know you are referring to another thread but this comment has no place here, and neither does the one that follows it.

This thread is about a serious case of a vulnerable misper.

Samantha is not a woman.

It is wrong to describe him as a woman when people will be trying to help locate him. It would be more appropriate to describe him as a male of (height) and (approx weight) with dyed long blond hair who wears womens clothing.

No amount of bullying from @Canadanian will change that and in the awful circumstance if some harm has befallen Samantha - even by themselves- then it will be used by TRAs to talk about transwomen.

Can you honestly read this thread and conclude I’m the bully here? That’s absolutely terrifying.

anything to say to the person who wrote ‘does she have tuberous breasts?’ about a missing women or is it only my behaviour you disagree with?

I hope you both get banned. This is a missing person.

You won't get anywhere on here. I've given up. But I'm glad you reported it because those last comments were just plain nasty.

I don't actually think it was entirely helpful that the police just said that Samantha was a woman - especially as it has led to mockery in the press (as well as here). It would have been clearer to say "Samantha, a trans woman" or "Samantha, who identifies as female". Both descriptions are clear, photos or no photos.

I hope that Samantha turns up safe & well.

I’m going to assume the police know more than you about the safest and most appropriate way forward in this specific case. You have absolutely no idea if seeing ‘trans identifying man’ plastered all over the press would have a detrimental effect to Samantha’s mental health or ANYTHING.

All of us can see that she is perfectly recognisable from the range of photos provided.

The police approach is very odd. I have wondered from the start whether the initial announcement was intended to provide a storm, with the minimal contextual info and the failure even to describe the missing person as a 'trans woman'.

Whatever the motivation, it has obviously led to multiple iterations and no success.

Well quite a few of you post really horrible things. Like clockwork.

Samantha is missing, and people have come here with faux concern that calling her a woman will hinder the search (there’s a photo - that’s who people will look out for). But it just an opportunity do some more transphobia.

It does help but doesn't answer my question.

Is Samantha a man or a woman?
