Welcome to The Bluestocking, the best (perhaps only) online women’s pub. The sign on the door says CELEBRATION, in glitter, and the gerbils have been told they may use as much glitter as they like.

The champagne is flowing, and it is the good kind. Every bubble is perfectly fizzy, every glass is bottomless, and nobody wakes up with a headache or a vague memory of singing to a coat rack. You may toast as many times as you wish and remain entirely clear-headed, sharp-witted and ready to explain your point again, louder, with hand gestures.

The gerbil crew has gone all out. There are bunting-laden tunnels, a tiny brass band that knows many tunes and play them with total conviction, and a head gerbil in a waistcoat who will announce your achievement to the whole room if you hand over a sunflower seed. Several gerbils have been practising a synchronised pouring routine. Two of them have already collided with the canapés, and the canapés are fine.

Whatever you are celebrating, a win, a finish, a survived meeting, a Tuesday, pull up a stool and raise a glass. The corks are popping, the confetti is mostly staying in the building, and everyone here is on your side.

Any curious menfolk are welcome at the Staunch Ally down the road, where they are invited to cheer from a respectful distance.

Cheers, everyone. The next round is on the gerbils.

One of my favourite things about the Chronicles of Gosie is that we’re all in there too.

Boiledbeetle · 14/10/2026 13:41

We really should conduct a census

Gerbils, capybaras, bagrog, goats micro pigs, tribbles, weird tribble/haggis accident, a rat, dogs, cat, cuddly toy (Ted/Bear 💙)...erm... Support camels...

EmpressaurusKitty · 14/10/2026 13:44

Weird tribble / haggis accident?

EdithStourton · 14/10/2026 13:53

I wouldn't Balrog a bagrog if I were you, Boily.
She can get very cross.

Weird tribble / haggis accident?

They are, we think, securely contained in some previous threads. Cute but able to multiply at will.

ETA I think an accident in the lab, late one night, was the culprit.

But great for saving on the heating bill, and gym membership.

I’m not usually a visitor to the Bluestocking although I have been curious about it. As a newcomer, I’m worried it might be a bit of a cult and some of you are going to try to convince me that you actually ARE Beetles or Kitty Emperesses rather than merely identify as them. Whereas I am actually the overlord of the Daleks. I am wondering if @Seethlaw ever pops into the pub as I have missed her across the boards recently. Maybe she frequents the Lounge Bar whereas I am strictly Public Bar only, it’s cheaper

raises eyebrow

Classic Davros or New Series Davros?

Guinea pigs and an ermine named Emily who undertook a dangerous mission as Trump’s stunt toupée.

Do the Virago Vixens count?

They'd be here in a flash if needed but prefer to be outdoors, travelling, on a mission. Hunter has a special whistle to summon them. He says.

Hello @Davros!

Im sorry I haven’t been very active in here, what with being in Australia for ds2’s wedding, and all the travelling that involved - but I am back home and actually starting to feel relatively human again, so hopefully I will be a better Bluestocking now.

AngleofRepose · 14/10/2026 14:55

And, for some as yet unknown reason, a random alpaca named Almira.

She hasn't said much yet. Too busy eating grass.

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius welcome back
@Davros welcome. It may possibly, at first sight, appear that the denizens of The Bluestocking are a teensy bit unhinged but if you spend enough time here it will all seem completely normal.

We are a bit unhinged. 😬But it's still saner here than in the rest of FWR.

MarieDeGournay · 14/10/2026 15:45

Welcome home Woley! Hope you had a great time and I'm glad you're recovering from the epic travelling.

Just popping in to say hi. And have a hot chocolate with rather a lot of brandy in it.

Have been to see a chiropractor about the buggered back. Not too serious, apparently. Will be sorted with a bit of massage and that wrenching thing and quite a lot of money. Not sure I'm keen on the application of ice packs, though.
