Teacher upset with my child questioning about trans child

Was Called into school today.
My daughter has just started reception in September, it’s a lovely village school, and she’s made lots of friends and settled in really well.

Yesterday I was called into have chat with her teacher.
Was informed my child has a trans girl in her class, and that my child is questioning the teacher every day about this.
That all the other children accept this child was born in the wrong body, yet my daughter is questioning ‘too much’.

I said we encourage curiosity amongst our children, so am
not surprised.

The teacher then said that my child was taken to one side and read a couple of books :
My name is Jazz
and one about a crayon that feels like a different colour.
Which was astonishing to me, because really singling out a child to (as the teacher said ) “Get her on board”, feels very pushy.

My daughter is very kind, and plays with all the children in the class including the trans girl.
The teacher is not concerned with unkindness, but that my daughter is not accepting enough, and she has asked us to reiterate pronouns and that this child is a girl.

This is the first school experience for us, as previously my daughter was at a childminder

It feels very wrong to single out a child, and read books that introduce a concept that we haven’t broached with our children yet.

Read the OP. The teacher is a transactivist. The problem is the teacher, not another child.

I see. It was the OP that confused me.

I don’t understand how intelligent people, who grew up before all this nonsense started, have swallowed this stuff, hook, line and sinker.

I agree. This is utterly baffling. In the space of a couple of years we seemed to go from Louis Theroux showing us 'trans kids' in America (in a series which also brought us child beauty contests and some seriously weird religious nutjobs, all in the spirit of 'look at what some crazy people do') to a situation where anyone who doesn't believe that children could 'be trans' are told they're closed minded bigots.

How did this happen, and why did so many otherwise intelligent people fall for it?

Edited

Very good question. And I look at the people handwaving it away and smugly virtue signalling about how morally superior they are, and I shake my head and think “what the actual fuck are you doing?”

dementedpixie · 10/10/2026 09:22

@Lacksie you seem obsessed with genitals! You can usually tell by face shape and how they move as to whether they are male or female. And OPs child is obviously correct about the child being a boy if she is being told off for misgendering him. And the teacher is also using books to indoctrinate her into thinking you can be born in the wrong body

you and I don't agree on anything related to this subject.

I was using the words OP used in her thread and questioning what was really happening in this circumstance as it doesn't make sense. At that age, whether a child appears male or female rest entirely on social convention, unless you know what genitals they have. So if this child is presenting as a girl (girl name etc), there's no reason for OP's child to be confused or question that.

You’re obsessed with children’s genitals!

I was replying to your post which said this:

If your child is in reception, why would she even know or care if another 4 year old is trans?

If you're agreeing with me that the idea of a child 'being trans' makes no sense, why did you say this, which implies that you believe a 4 year old child can 'be trans'?

What are her eyes / ears telling her exactly and how is she being asked to deny that?

Are you for real ?

OldCrone · 10/10/2026 09:10

Lacksie · 10/10/2026 09:06

No it was because the OP said the child was trans - not me. In this case I don't know what she means by it either. The whole thing makes no sense.

The OP isn’t saying the child is trans, but that the school are treating the child as trans and insisting on other children using preferred pronouns, rather than sex based ones. If OP’s child recognises that the child is a boy and is being told not to trust her own eyes and to refer to him as a girl, that’s a safeguarding failure on the part of the school.

She knows the child is male but is being told they are a girl and is getting in trouble for questioning it. Can you not read or something?

Lacksie · 10/10/2026 09:07

dementedpixie · 10/10/2026 09:05

The child is being asked to deny what her eyes/ears are telling her about another child. This is gaslighting and the child is confused as to why she is being told a boy is a girl

Its not hard to understand!

Totally completely, You simply don't get to say how someone else should feel about their body at any age unless it really directly affects you. It's a good skill to learn that you don't have to be vocal about everything you don't agree with.

And in this case agreeing that this boy is a girl affects the rest of the class as they are being asked to participate in a lie. Children are naturally curious and you’re advocating for snuffing out that curiosity because the school can’t adhere to guidelines. It’s perfectly simple. Primary schools should not be allowing children to use pronouns that are not sex based.

How can a 4 year old be trans? Please explain what you think makes a 4 year old a transsexual.

Have flicked through the thread, horrified as usual by all the people telling OP that her daughter is being rude, is obsessed with genitals and other abuse. Also Elliot who’s a girl, pretending to be a boy. I hope Elliot’s teachers are wise enough to make sure she doesn’t get changed with the boys.

Last weekend, even the BBC was reporting the shocking rise of sexual abuse occurring in schools, from a frighteningly young age. Knowing what sex a child is and ensuring they are protected when necessary is an essential part of prevention. Children should not ever be treated as if they are something they aren’t and the other children in the class should never be coerced into saying things they know are not true.

I don’t understand how intelligent people, who grew up before all this nonsense started, have swallowed this stuff, hook, line and sinker. I know intelligent people have swallowed it as my sister earnestly told me about her friend’s son who wore princess dresses and stood in the wrong line at school, so was obviously genuinely a girl (rather than genuinely wishing he was one, or genuinely confused).

Living through a period of mass psychosis has to be the one of the most exhausting and sickening things I’ve been through. I just want it to stop.

This child knows she’s being asked to collude in something that is not true and she’s confused. This is exactly why it’s such a betrayal to expose young children to this ideology right when they are learning the foundations of what is real and what isn’t. There’s a good discussion about the developmental effect of this towards the end of this podcast episode. If my child had been read those books I would be absolutely furious. The teacher should have spoken to you first and allowed you to handle it in your own way. I would speak to the head purely because this young teacher needs to learn that there are topics that are for families to teach, not schools.

Thank you. Unfortunately, someone clearly complained so it was put on the naughty step. For telling the truth that most of us know is the truth. Nothing changes with this nonsense I'm afraid.

I meant that the teacher has said the child is still getting used to the new pronouns, so she sometimes corrects the teacher.
I wondered whether hearing that back and forth might be adding to my daughter’s confusion, as she’s trying to understand what she’s hearing.

My point was about her trying to make sense of the language and the situation, not an obsession with anyone’s body.

Getting used to?

This makes no sense to me. So it’s a boy pretending to be a girl? So what’s to get used to.

And they’re 4?! I thought schools weren’t supposed to be encouraging this.

beeble347 · 09/10/2026 22:46

I'd speak to the head. Probably a new and young teacher, she should not be doing that. Even when we deliver PSHE type lessons, the goal is to facilitate discussion rather than push only one narrative.

I'd be pissed as well reading my child books like that without informing me. She's 5 - of course she has questions! Sounds like teacher is trying to shut the questions down.
