Teacher upset with my child questioning about trans child

Was Called into school today.
My daughter has just started reception in September, it’s a lovely village school, and she’s made lots of friends and settled in really well.

Yesterday I was called into have chat with her teacher.
Was informed my child has a trans girl in her class, and that my child is questioning the teacher every day about this.
That all the other children accept this child was born in the wrong body, yet my daughter is questioning ‘too much’.

I said we encourage curiosity amongst our children, so am
not surprised.

The teacher then said that my child was taken to one side and read a couple of books :
My name is Jazz
and one about a crayon that feels like a different colour.
Which was astonishing to me, because really singling out a child to (as the teacher said ) “Get her on board”, feels very pushy.

My daughter is very kind, and plays with all the children in the class including the trans girl.
The teacher is not concerned with unkindness, but that my daughter is not accepting enough, and she has asked us to reiterate pronouns and that this child is a girl.

This is the first school experience for us, as previously my daughter was at a childminder

It feels very wrong to single out a child, and read books that introduce a concept that we haven’t broached with our children yet.

And? So what?! Why do you care? I’m sure this has all been explained to this child.

Always toilets. You people are obsessed with toilets!

Actually in responding to @Ereshkigalangcleg you are the person who first brought up the issue of toilets while she did not. Why is it always toilets? You people are obsessed with toilets!

TheKeatingFive · 10/10/2026 13:32

And what point are you actually making @GoodGirlFaith ? Do you think boys over 8 should be allowed into girls toilets if they ‘identify’ as a girl?

Toilets are important facilities when it comes to safeguarding children and giving them appropriate single sex spaces to use.

Other examples of where single sex spaces are important - changing rooms, domestic violence shelters, rape counselling, prisons - are not as relevant to primary school children.

Hope that clears it up for you.

Ahem.
The poster was talking about changing rooms. It's transactivists who are always talking about toilets. Just as you have done 😂😂

How is it helpful to lie to this child that people see him as a girl? When he’s 8 he won’t be able to use the girls’ changing rooms, he’ll have to use a third space.

I don't think she was talking about the child

What illness then?

GingerdeadMan · 10/10/2026 13:24

I maintain my opinion, slightly rephrased for the censors 🙄 that the phrase 'obsessed with genitals' is straight off the TRA bingo card.

Its pure hyperbole.

Noticing the difference between the sexes, which is what this child was doing, and noticing she was being lied to =/= being 'obsessed' (with genitals or anything else).

DARVO-ing the poor child by doubling down and insisting that because she has not succumbed and still notices that this other kid is a boy, that she is a safeguarding concern is breathtaking gaslighting.

Gaslighting is emotional abuse. Telling little children off for ignoring the evidence of their own eyes is abusive. (am I allowed to say this? Guess we will find out). It doesn't matter what the subject is.

Equating 'being able to notice sex' with 'probably has been abused' is just such a reach I don't even know where to start.

Yes, agree it’s an illness, can’t imagine any other illness that’s lied about in the way body dysmorphia is. These children are being failed by adults

Honestly, you're on a hiding to nothing. They'll still all be here at 1000 replies. Mainly ranting at a minority. Also patronising any woman who is trans inclusive.

This is about two wee children.

But the supposed adults will still be frothing until the thread fills up. It's an illness in my opinion. I hope you read this quickly because they will inevitably report it!

Yes this is about two wee children.

Who deserve to be told the truth by the adults they trust and safeguarded accordingly.

if you think this is ranting or frothing or hate, then you must be living on another planet.

Who cares what other people do as long as they’re not hurting you? I’m naturally brunette but dye my hair blonde. I suppose I’m also lying to the world 😂

@Rosscameasdoody I think it's fair to say that you would know but it's unlikely most children of the same age or older would clock it. For a start, they think a boy can grow up to be a woman.

Agreed, they think this is possible aged 2-3. By 6/7 they absolutely understand that boys grow to be men and girls grow to be women. They understand sex permanence by about this age. It is basic developmental psychology, and has been extremely well researched.

Well of course it’s a problem if we’re being made pretend men can be women and vice versa. It means that women’s needs, rights and language can’t be protected for one thing.

In the case of the OP’s child, they are being told that something they know to be true is false. That’s undermining their own (very important) instincts, undermining their faith in adults in authority to tell them the truth, undermining safeguarding protocols when these children are old enough to require separate spaces for toilets/changing.

GoodGirlFaith · 10/10/2026 12:02

TheKeatingFive · 10/10/2026 10:08

Intelligent people understand that the norms we set for society need to be based on factual foundations and need to consider the needs of all involved.

How is it helping this child to pretend that they are somehow actually the opposite sex when everyone knows that this is not the case?

Teachers are required to avoid political views in the classroom. This should be no different.

Agree.

And as pointed out, he will not be allowed to use the female spaces after he turns 8. So he will be “othered” then, won’t he? But the girls have rights too, inconveniently.

Exactly

Treaclewell · 10/10/2026 10:21

The teacher is teaching lies, ideas held by a minority of people and backed up by no scientifically agreed facts at all. She obviously agrees with them and is doing it because one set of parents demand it. It is totally wrong for ecvery other child in the class who has a right to be taught factual truth. I feel that teachers with such ideas shouldn't be let loose on children.
That isn't just occurring with this issue. I have come across it with religion. Books in which children have written things which only some Christians believe as facts. (Can't remember what - the Flood?)* The secondary child who was found sobbing in the cloakrooms because the teacher had said that his atheist parents were going to hell, and it took an hour to calm him. The Mormon parents who asked me not to teach about evolution, to whom I explained it wasn't in the curriculum but if the subject came up from the children, I would teach what I believe to be true. (Which being the majority understanding excuses me from pushing my own private agenda.)
This trans issue should not be intruding into primary classes. If the school is, at the behest of one set of parents, ignoring guidelines, the OP may need to withdraw their child and inform Ofsted. As it's a village school, that presents difficulties.
Teachers need to be asked before appointing what they would teach about difficult questions, homosexuality, race, other religions, and if they would stick to what was required and not impose their personal beliefs. There are not, for example, demons in the gurdwara. If they can't avoid them, they don't belong in the classroom. And parents, like those Mormons, should not control what is taught to other people's children.
Accommodate the trans child, yes, but do not attempt to brainwash those who question. Find a way to explain that doesn't teach lies. "John likes to be Joanne, and we're happy with that, OK?"
*Eggshells time - how to deal with colleagues properly, hope that someone higher up the food chain spots it. Easy to get round - just write "Christians believe" first. The trans issue seems worse.

Why do you care what other people do? Try caring less, it’s hardly worth exhausting yourself over! 😂

The poster quite literally told you why. Maybe try reading and understanding instead of reaching for the laughing emojis.

I think that’s the extent of many posters’ range.

JellySaurus · 10/10/2026 10:14

sarahandsage · 09/10/2026 08:04

She's asking questions about the language mostly, because the trans girl doesn't always use she/her pronouns.
The teacher said that the child is still getting used to them.

My daughter is trying to understand what she’s hearing and what she's being told.
It’s more. about making sense of gender and language, not asking about another child’s genitals, which would be bizarre !

I wonder whether the little boy was exploring the concept of being a girl over the holidays and his parents jumped on the bandwagon. There's still a lot of 'better a live daughter than a dead son' fearmongering around. So they told the teacher, who also jumped on the bandwagon (if she wasn't already on it).

But when the boy started school with most of his friends from preschool they all treated him exactly as they had before. Normality was restored for him. He began to escape from the echo-chamber. Unfortunately the adults around him are still deeply embedded in the echo-chamber and continue to push the trans narrative. Hence his confusion and correction of the teacher's use of pronouns to describe him.

What a ghastly failure of safeguarding. And of parenting. And of bloody commonsense! The four year olds have more commonsense than the adults!

Only because they have been told this by trusted adults. I mean, children thst age still believe Santa is real because adults tell them he is.

No, the data from the 1950s/60s also shows this. They don't understand sex is constant till they are a bit older. They also think people can change race. It's just immature thinking.
