Teacher upset with my child questioning about trans child

Was Called into school today.
My daughter has just started reception in September, it’s a lovely village school, and she’s made lots of friends and settled in really well.

Yesterday I was called into have chat with her teacher.
Was informed my child has a trans girl in her class, and that my child is questioning the teacher every day about this.
That all the other children accept this child was born in the wrong body, yet my daughter is questioning ‘too much’.

I said we encourage curiosity amongst our children, so am
not surprised.

The teacher then said that my child was taken to one side and read a couple of books :
My name is Jazz
and one about a crayon that feels like a different colour.
Which was astonishing to me, because really singling out a child to (as the teacher said ) “Get her on board”, feels very pushy.

My daughter is very kind, and plays with all the children in the class including the trans girl.
The teacher is not concerned with unkindness, but that my daughter is not accepting enough, and she has asked us to reiterate pronouns and that this child is a girl.

This is the first school experience for us, as previously my daughter was at a childminder

It feels very wrong to single out a child, and read books that introduce a concept that we haven’t broached with our children yet.

How dare I what? Suggest that sexual attraction of any kind is not an appropriate thing for a child to be contemplating - and worse if an adult is seeking to encourage them in this?

Why are you offended - do you believe that it IS appropriate for 5yo children to be considering whom they would like to have sex with?

You are coming across as a bit dodgy.

Insinuating the parents of this child, or of any transgender child is insulting and why do you actually care? How is it affecting your life?

I can see from my notifications that the TERFS have rounded on me. Predicable! Why don’t you all go out and actually meet some trans people? You might realise that they’re human beings.

Nobody has 'rounded on you' (more hyperbole).

People are asking questions about your posts. They do that, it's a discussion forum.

You keep asking questions then ignoring the answers, then ignoring questions put to you - this tends to generate more posts to you as people seek to work out what you're trying to say.

I care because I care about children being lied to and encouraged into drugs and surgery they don't need.

It affects me because I'm a woman and I don't want to share private space with blokes - whatever they think their gender is.

I've met plenty of trans people. Like any other group of people, they vary wildly between nice and less so, confident and timid, aggressive and pleasant, etc etc.

I still don't want trans identifying blokes in women's spaces.

Its. Not. That . Difficult.

Why are you using misogynistic slurs about women you disagree with? Can’t you express yourself without it? I get that your arguments aren’t particularly good, but it’s quite telling.

Because as far as I can see the poster has no argument beyond ‘how is this affecting your life’. Doesn’t agree with the replies. Shouts TERF !!

To an adult they look the same but children can tell the difference.

Not all children can tell, I guess. There was a trans child discussed on this board a while ago who was friends with the girls, and when they got older and found out this child was really a boy they were very distressed and felt betrayed. That is what will happen if everyone is lying - the truth will come out at some point and it won't be pretty.

Catiette · 10/10/2026 18:15

Lacksie · 10/10/2026 09:14

you and I don't agree on anything related to this subject.

I was using the words OP used in her thread and questioning what was really happening in this circumstance as it doesn't make sense. At that age, whether a child appears male or female rest entirely on social convention, unless you know what genitals they have. So if this child is presenting as a girl (girl name etc), there's no reason for OP's child to be confused or question that.

Did you even read the posts, including mine, made in direct response to the last time you claimed this? Or the anecdotal evidence from the teacher of thousands of kids this age?

ThisFunSheep · 10/10/2026 18:03

Some children are far more logical at a young age than others. I remember being confused by teachers’ explanations because they simply didn’t make sense to me - and they were typical ridiculous things some adults say to kids.

If she’s repeatedly questioning it, perhaps something about the explanation doesn’t add up, or it hasn’t been explained clearly.

I’d ask the teacher to write down what was said so you can discuss it at home and request clearer explanations from the school if needed.

A child can understand that someone wants to be called a girl’s name and pronouns.

But saying they’re “really a girl who looks like a boy” may just confuse a four-year-old, and isn't appropriate ideology to be using.

Including teaching kindness, tolerance, inclusion and respect.

Encouraging children to believe they can change sex is none of these things

Nobody should be teaching inclusion of the males of the species into the female sex (and female spaces).
Kindness, tolerance and respect are great virtues, but they need to flow in both directions.

GoodChocolate · 10/10/2026 16:33

BruachAbhann · 10/10/2026 15:17

Because she can see with her own eyes what the sex of the child is and doesn't understand why the adults are lying to her. It's the same as if the teacher were to point to an empty chair and say, 'don't sit there, that chair is occupied', they are going to be confused and ask questions.

It's a teacher's job to teach. Not to affirm delusions, whether minority delusions or otherwise.

GoodGirlFaith · 10/10/2026 13:27

And? So what?! Why do you care? I’m sure this has all been explained to this child.

Always toilets. You people are obsessed with toilets!

So you don’t see anything wrong with telling the child that yes of course they can be the opposite sex - absolutely, go ahead, we’ll support you. Then bam !! They hit the age of eight and then suddenly they’re told that they can no longer use the facilities of their chosen sex, because they’re actually still the sex they were born into. You don’t think that will mess with the child’s head ? You really don’t think that the guidelines preventing this shit are there for a reason, or that safeguarding is there for the benefit of all children ?

You’ll find the vast majority of TERFs have plenty of exposure to people who believe themselves to be trans.

That doesn’t change our view that humans can’t change sex. Why would it?

SeasideWalkaroundStore · 10/10/2026 14:57

To be honest, I'd be extremely concerned about ANY 4 or 5yo child declaring, indicating or being labelled as to whom they're sexually attracted to at their age.

There's no issue if a young boy has stereotypically 'feminine' characteristics, or a young girl is a tomboy; but when it comes to sexual attraction - identifying or being identified as gay, straight, bisexual or whatever - this is clearly deeply inappropriate and seriously disturbing at their age.

How dare you.

intelligent people respect others and don’t care what they do so long as they’re kind to others.

This seems to be doing the rounds on other threads atm, must be the 'gotcha du jour'.

Live and let live, as another insisted - while in the next sentence stating she doesn't care if anyone doesn't like her opinions (telling us off for wanting women's spaces to be for women).

Can you really not see how illogical this is? It all sounds so nice and reasonable until you begin to unpick it.

Live and let live - as long as it's not something I disagree with!

Its not an argument.

Intelligence =/= respecting other people.
I've met many intelligent people who aren't particularly respectful.

Also, respect =/= agree with.

Or is this an attempt at an insult - people who don't agree with you aren't intelligent?

Gaslighting and lying to children is not 'kind'.

Encouraging children to believe they need drugs and surgery to be acceptable is not kind.

Failing to safeguard children appropriately is not kind.

Insinuating the parents of this child, or of any transgender child is insulting and why do you actually care? How is it affecting your life?

I can see from my notifications that the TERFS have rounded on me. Predicable! Why don’t you all go out and actually meet some trans people? You might realise that they’re human beings.

Or if the teacher brings her 35 year old male friend and tells the in to class and tells everyone, “this is Lucy, she’s joining us a a new start in primary 1, everyone be extra kind as she’s very nervous”

I don't understand this. If your child is in reception, why would she even know or care if another 4 year old is trans? There's something missing here as it doesn't make any sense at all.

Because she can see with her own eyes what the sex of the child is and doesn't understand why the adults are lying to her. It's the same as if the teacher were to point to an empty chair and say, 'don't sit there, that chair is occupied', they are going to be confused and ask questions.
