Teacher upset with my child questioning about trans child

Was Called into school today.
My daughter has just started reception in September, it’s a lovely village school, and she’s made lots of friends and settled in really well.

Yesterday I was called into have chat with her teacher.
Was informed my child has a trans girl in her class, and that my child is questioning the teacher every day about this.
That all the other children accept this child was born in the wrong body, yet my daughter is questioning ‘too much’.

I said we encourage curiosity amongst our children, so am
not surprised.

The teacher then said that my child was taken to one side and read a couple of books :
My name is Jazz
and one about a crayon that feels like a different colour.
Which was astonishing to me, because really singling out a child to (as the teacher said ) “Get her on board”, feels very pushy.

My daughter is very kind, and plays with all the children in the class including the trans girl.
The teacher is not concerned with unkindness, but that my daughter is not accepting enough, and she has asked us to reiterate pronouns and that this child is a girl.

This is the first school experience for us, as previously my daughter was at a childminder

It feels very wrong to single out a child, and read books that introduce a concept that we haven’t broached with our children yet.

Yes. By you. Why did you do that?

Here's your post again, just to remind you.

There was one in my sons P1 class. A trans girl. She’s still a trans girl. They’re now 35. There was a gay child in my youngest’s P1 class. He’s still gay. They’re 30.

Not a thing there about sex.

No I'm not. Sexual attraction was mentioned in relation to children.

You are clearly confused by the use of the word 'Sex' - which relates to biology/is a biological category. This is what 'gender' ideology does to people. It makes them confused.

Lovemelovemycat · 11/10/2026 10:24

Primary schools should get on with teaching kids. When did they become places of such extremism. If either of my sons had come to me or dh at age 5 and said they were in the wrong body we’d have laughed. Apparently we should have been arranging gender reassignment. Who knew eh?

Not confused in the slightest. Wasn't me who mentioned having sex in relation to a child.

Because as far as I can see the poster has no argument beyond ‘how is this affecting your life’. Doesn’t agree with the replies. Shouts TERF !!

Yep

Oh. for goodnerss sake.......children of five and six can recognise 'sex'. it is instinctive.

Edited

I agree. In any case, the OP's child CAN tell the difference with this child and is being gaslit and lied to. Talk by other posters about children not being able to tell the difference is irrelevant.

If OP is still reading, when this happened to my son and he was told a boy was now a girl, I explained the situation in truthful, age-appropriate language. I said that the boy was confused and wanted to pretend to be a girl. In order not to upset the boy, we wouldn't bring it up in school and would try just use his new name, not pronouns. Of course, this is really difficult for a young kid. And this wasn't enough for the school as they wanted my son to truly believe that the boy had changed sex. We took our son out as he was effectively being bullied on this issue by the school and the boy and his family. It was an impossible situation.
I've since heard that the family has backtracked a bit and the boy is now a 'they/them'🙄But not before the whole school had to capitulate to his views and force the students to ignore the evidence of their eyes. The boy was 5 when he started dressing as a girl. The parents are totally invested in his being trans but I suspect he is pulling back on the issue himself. Children should never be put in this situation.

But this child is more curious and questioning - which is a sign of developing rationality and enquiry - which is to be encouraged, and it is obviously an inherent talent that will serve as she grows older. Going along with the herd or the crowd may make you fit in and be more popular, but independence of mind and spirit, and non-conformity is also to be valued.

I agree with this. She reminds me of the boy in The Emperor’s New Clothes and, in my opinion, that’s something to be proud of. I wouldn’t be happy about the books either.

i hope the questions are kept to the adults and the classmate isn't getting them every day. If you are unhappy with the school explaining it to your daughter with books, then you need to be discussing it at home to the point she is satisfied as for her to be repeatedly bringing it up daily is just too much for everyone concerned.

I find it interesting that she is having trouble with accepting the child's preffered pronouns, as my 4 year old son and the others I know are very much go with the flow about things at their age and would be satisfied with something like
'Jenny in your class at school likes to be called 'she' as a little girl'.

What are they asking about then? HOW do they know the difference between the genitalia and the gender presentation?

You're not what? Are you denying that you said a child was gay? The post is still there. Go back and look.

You don't seem to understand your own posts and your replies to mine make no sense.

I'll do something about that then 👋👋

Slightyamusedandsilly · 09/10/2026 07:26

You absolutely don't have to discuss gender. But difference in general needs to be part of every child's world view.

Sexuality. Ethnicity. Culture. Animals. Food.

Difference is the norm.

Boys can have long hair. Girls can have short hair. A child can be brown with a white mum. Some children don't live with their parents, they live with their granny. You have a bedroom on your own. James shares with his brother. Asha is an only child, but Molly has six brothers and sisters.

Most of what is learned is picked up by what a child is exposed to; about what is in their environemt; how their parents's behave. If a child is surrounded by 'difference' then that is what they will learn. They will naturally see that people have differences. Different personalities, different hair or skin colour, different homes, different preferences. Over-loading a child with adult concepts is fruitless.

I also asked the teacher this, and the context and what questions is she asking exactly, and what answers is she being given ?

My daughter knows about differences in race and sexuality, but no we’ve not discussed gender at this point.

What can a 4/5 year possible understand about 'race' and 'sexuality' - if you don't mind my asking?

These posters stating that it’s impossible to tell, and asking how the OP’s dd can tell, are ignoring the OP’s statement that the little boy is correcting the teacher when she uses feminine pronouns about him. That is what is confusing the OP’s dd. The teacher is claiming that the child is a girl, but the child disagrees. The reason we have to believe that this child is a boy is the fact that the teacher is pushing transgender literature on the OP’s dd and telling the OP that her dd must accept the other child as a girl.

Yes. We haven't been told how the OP's child knows the sex of the so-called trans child. All this discussion of appearance is irrelevant.

What we do know is that the teacher is a transactivist who is promoting this ideology in the classroom.

Shortshriftandlethal · 11/10/2026 09:10

Slightyamusedandsilly · 09/10/2026 07:05

I don't really understand why your daughter is questioning the teacher? I have the world's most curious child and after one explanation, my DC would have moved on from this.

Are you bringing your child up in a home that supports and welcomes difference and inclusivity? Of sexuality and race, if not gender differences yet? E.g. sometimes two men love each other and get married, it's not always just a man and a woman. Or yes, Rudi's mum is brown and her dad is white and Rudi is a bit of both, just like the ginger cat and the black cat have kittens that are mixed.

Toddlers have yet to develop conceptual thinking( and so notions of 'inclusivity' are meaningless.) but they can recognise sex. It is instinctively noted, even in babies and animals. They are not blank slates to be filled with whatever adults tell them, They are living and interacting beings with a nature of their own.

A teacher trying to close down such basic questioning is not in the right job. A teacher needs to be truthful with children and find the most suitable way to convery those truths to children.

Is that your evidence? Something AI generated?

You seem a bit confused. Have you forgotten that it was you who talked about children being gay? Do you really not see that labelling a 4 or 5 year old child according to who they might like to have sex with is considered by most people to be "a bit dodgy" (to use your phrase)?

a natural expression of human diversity

If it were this it wouldn't need surgery, hormones and everyone else pretending, would it?

'Gender non conforming' is however a natural expression of human diversity. There are many ways to be a man or a woman, a boy or a girl; these don't need to conform to imposed stereotypes.

This. Exactly. It’s the truth. Notice how every refutation of reality ends with the tired old “moral panic argument’.

Kave · 11/10/2026 08:30

A 4/5 year old does not have the cognitive development to grasp concepts like ‘gender’. ‘Born in the wrong body’ is neither accurate nor kind. Some children have been left worried that they might also suddenly change from girl to boy or vice versa. At this age ‘be kind’ might be appropriate. ‘X would rather be a girl, so we’re treating X as a girl’. To demand that a child believes the impossible, a literal sex change, is wrong. There are many ways the teacher could have phrased her answer without doing that. It is perfectly possible to be accepting, friendly & understanding without having to believe that a literal sex change is possible. I would be worried if all questions about difference were handled like this - it’s overkill. She can accept Zainab’s hijab without being required to believe in Allah. Short, simple, accurate answer & move on. Is she a very new teacher? Maybe teach your daughter that some questions are better asked at home? The child will be devastated in a few years time when the school is required to ensure single sex facilities from (iirc) age 8.
