Today I discovered that Hinge can delete your account if as a straight male you complain about males appearing in your dating queue…

I only discovered this after having made two reports, and it’s Sunday, so I suppose I’ll find out tomorrow if they are going to follow through.

  • [This paragraph has been removed at the OP's request]

I'm sure someone will be along in a minute and ask why it has to be a thing in a relationship at all but given the case I’m following through it sort of has to be out there!

I think to be fair to Lexi, the position that the OP is wrong and Hinge is right is so difficult to argue, I am impressed the discussion has lasted this long.

MyAmpleSheep · 12/08/2026 11:41

This post is mostly incoherent and what is not incoherent is irrelevant. The OP is not complaining about the filtering on another site.

If men are failing to filter out matches that don’t meet their preferences by reading them carefully then better filters are the answer, not the issue.

This is why men often get so annoyed by the lack of filters that allows him to find the women he most wants quickly.

Don't ever go into advertising will you Lexible.

Hinge, the dating site that doesn't let you find the woman you want.

MyAmpleSheep · 12/08/2026 11:41

Lexibletheflexible · 12/08/2026 07:09

No it doesn't. You just scroll past or stop engaging with people when you find out they don't meet your criteria. But that takes reading profiles. If you are a man and want just mass like any woman near you, then this seems annoying because you'd have to actually click on several profiles and read what the women had to say about themselves.

Men don't usually read profiles until there has been mutual interest. They just swipe right on every woman that doesn't repulse them by the way they look. When the woman "likes" them back, they may have a quick glance at her profile. Usually they just start asking questions they could have had answered from the profile.

This is why men often get so annoyed by the lack of filters that allows him to find the women he most wants quickly.

I don't if you've ever heard of Fetlife, but on there, you cannot search users by role or sex or gender. You can see people by location and that's it. It gets guys so angry that they can't find all the "dominant women in Essex" or "submissive trans women in Hull". But they don't want people (mostly men) to be able to pull up lists of women and start mass messaging them.

This post is mostly incoherent and what is not incoherent is irrelevant. The OP is not complaining about the filtering on another site.

I do find it amusing that in order to filter out the penis people, instead of using filters to filter out the other men, men now have to ask any potential 'female' dates 'Just checking, do you have a cock love?' before meeting up.

Not forgetting the inevitable follow-up question. Okay, but did you ever have one?

Datun · 12/08/2026 11:29

womanwithissues · 12/08/2026 09:57

What data about men using dating apps? Link please. Your insistence that men must be made to read profiles is irrelevant in any case because women also benefit from being able to search by sex and gender. I don't want to see trans men in my search results. Why should I? I don't want to date them.

So we are agreed that the OP doesn't want to exclude TW from dating sites. Because he never said that. And fwiw I don't want to exclude trans men from dating sites. I just don't want to date them and I don't understand why sites can't filter for sex.

BTW your reference to Fetlife and not being able to search by location, gender etc is because Fetlife is NOT a dating site and never has been. It's a social networking site for people with kinks/fetishes.

Even I have heard of Fetlife. And not because I'm on it, or know anyone who is. But because of the whole trans ideology.

There's a lot of things about paraphilias I've learnt because of that.

Large numbers of straight and bi people date trans people. Loads of people won't enter a space they think is prejudice towards trans people despite not being trans. The app is catering to its user base who wants trans people on the app.

Large numbers of straight and bi people date trans people.

There are 35,000,000 men on the uk, mostly straight, and about 50,000 trans identifying men (“trans women”) of whom most don’t remotely “pass” and of whom a significant proportion are also straight (or “lesbian” by their own parlance) and so not interested in straight men.

So that’s 700 men to each trans-identifying one.

The idea that any significant proportion of men are dating or having sex with trans-identifying is silly; if just 1% of men were then every trans woman would be servicing on average 7 men. And many times more given the ratio of bricks to dolls, and taking out the self-declared “lesbians”.

This is just a laughable proposition.

The truth is that wanting to date or have sex with a male person of your own sex is a specialized niche fetish for men, not of interest to most men on dating sites.

Lexibletheflexible · 12/08/2026 09:09

Hmm, that seems to be a bit no true scotsman and sort of irrelevant. If there are women who identify as lesbians and will date a trans woman, then trans accepting lesbians exist. Especially when we are talking about search filters on a website. A TW could find a lesbian GF on one.

It is the use of the words “large numbers” in your original assertion that I have a problem. It is not my experience. I would like to see where you get the evidence from.

If you don’t have any, then please don’t expect people to take your beliefs about the situation to be the reality, just on your say so.

Well I am hoping that his date is GC and understands and supports his legal campaign, that they get on really well and it does not matter at all (for future dating purposes) that Hinge bans both of them. Though I hope it won't.

Unless you know OP in real life you sound a little overinvested? I'm just curious as a GC woman I'd still find it pertinent information whether a man in meeting can behave online and follow boundaries whether he agrees with them or not because bad online behaviour is a red flag to me of bad boundaries in person.

Shedmistress · 12/08/2026 11:10

Lexibletheflexible · 12/08/2026 08:17

Yes ask with your words. That is what grown ups do to establish compatibility.

If you have to 'use your words' then what is the point of filters?

@SingleSexSpacesInSchools out of curiosity is the date you were going on someone from Hinge and was she aware your account had been deleted by Hinge for not following their T&C's?

Edited

I didn't read it as his account has been deleted. Rather that he learned that it could be, for reporting the appearance of men in his feed, when he had requested women only.

I may be mistaken. But that's my impression.

Oh I read it as he found out Hinge can delete your account for X so his account has been deleted / is being reviewed for deletion. Maybe OP can clarify @SingleSexSpacesInSchools ?

It seems to be a shock to some people that dating is, by its very nature, exclusionary.

The thing im saying about how men use dating apps comes from data on how men use dating apps.

Plus female griends who regularly tell me that they end up in a chat with someone who obviously didn't read their profile. So the data matches anecdotal experience. Men generally don't read profiles.

how many people will date a trans person

+2 A study published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships found that about 12% of cisgender people are open to dating a transgender person. Openness varies greatly by sexual orientation, with straight men at 3.3%, straight women at 1.8%, gay men at 11.5%, lesbians at 29%, and bisexual/queer people at 52%.Survey Breakdown by GroupBisexual and queer people: 52% are open to dating a trans person.Lesbians: 29% are open to dating a trans person.Gay men: 11.5% are open to dating a trans person.Straight men: 3.3% are open to dating a trans person.Straight women: 1.8% are open to dating a trans person.

So to put this back into context on the dating app. Lets say a person who is a trans woman and open to date anyone signs up to Hinge. The TW ticks the "female" box and also the "bisexual" box and states an interest in both "men" and "women". That means they will show up in the searches of anyone who is seeking a woman of their age and location. So the only people they won't show up on are the searches of straight women. That's because straight women arent seeking other women. Bisexual and gay women are. Bisexual and straight men are.

It may well be that this TW is far more likely to meet a lesbian who will be interested or a bisexual person than a straight man, but it doesn't mean they shouldn't be present on the site. Especially on a site which embraces non-het sexualities.

I think men should trawl through profiles, read them, and only message people who they think they could bring at least as much value as they demand from them.

I haven't read the latest posts so I'm not sure of the context of this quoted study, but surely that info would be more useful if it broke 'trans person' down into TW and TM. For example, what % of lesbians would date a TW, what % a TM and what % both?

The TW ticks the "female" box

That isn’t their sex. No one has denied that filtering by ‘sex’ would rely on TW being honest about that sex.

Lexibletheflexible · 12/08/2026 08:26

From what people say and other things that have happened which have caused non-trans people to shun a business or event on behalf of trans people.

Hinge allows users to filter by ethnicity and religion. So you are saying that the young, cool kids are totally fine with their Black sisters, their Muslim sisters, their Jewish sisters etc being filtered out from people’s searches. They don’t ’shun the business’, but if the app had a filter that allowed (doesn’t compel, doesn’t insist) the exclusion of male ‘sisters’, that would be too much? And those people are progressive and inclusive are they?

Lexibletheflexible · 12/08/2026 09:09

nutmeg7 · 12/08/2026 09:01

You said “large numbers date trans people”.

You do keep making generalised assertions based on your belief that this must be true. But you have nothing to back this up. It is not the experience of trans people I have met, especially if they are determined to be treated as the sex they wish they were.

Yes, lesbians date trans men (it’s where the butch lesbians went) because they are female. Actual homosexual lesbians do not want to date trans women, because they are male.

So I think your assertion is wishful thinking.

You keep confusing "have to date" with "shows up in my search feed". The OP doesnt want trans women to show up in his search feed. Nobody is even saying he has to speak to them. He can even block them on sight. Instead he chose to report them for just showing up in his feed which is explicitly against the site rules.

It would be like insisting on calling someone cis on here. While other sites might be fine with it and see it the same as factually commenting that someone is blonde or tall. This site does not. So if someone continually uses the word here, they should expect to be reprimanded if not banned, right?

State "large numbers" as an estimated percentage.

Having personal sexual boundaries with regards to natal biological sex is not anti-trans prejudice. It's just being human. A minority not having such a boundary does not negate that.
