Today I discovered that Hinge can delete your account if as a straight male you complain about males appearing in your dating queue…

I only discovered this after having made two reports, and it’s Sunday, so I suppose I’ll find out tomorrow if they are going to follow through.

  • [This paragraph has been removed at the OP's request]

I'm sure someone will be along in a minute and ask why it has to be a thing in a relationship at all but given the case I’m following through it sort of has to be out there!

Unless you know OP in real life you sound a little overinvested? I'm just curious as a GC woman I'd still find it pertinent information whether a man in meeting can behave online and follow boundaries whether he agrees with them or not because bad online behaviour is a red flag to me of bad boundaries in person.

You can't be a GC woman if you are concerned that a man is unhappy that an app doesn't allow him to filter out biological men from identifying as women.

Good fraking lord.

you think that me objecting to MEN being in my dating feed I set exclusively to WOMEN is a RED FLAG?

As I guessed here a few days ago, I must be in the mirror universe where up is down, black is white and saying I don't like dick is a red flag to straight women.

When you choose to join a site / app that is explicit that it works that way - yes. No one is saying you should like dick, please don't bring that up (again - boundaries dude) just that you can't demand and stomp your feet that an app that advertises itself as people self declaring isn't allowing you to demand people declare their sex especially when you yourself don't seem yours always relevant - perhaps they don't? But you sound like one of those men who think every woman in the deck is there for you and you can whine when they aren't, that's not how apps work! You seem keen to not advise if you were warned you may be deleted

Princessblackberry · 13/08/2026 10:39

Right and you've said that you don't always think your sex is relevant to disclose so it's a bit of a red flag you aren't happy to have met someone who wants to meet you, you're instead stomping your feet that you aren't allowed to break the rules of a site you've willingly signed up to. I assure you, any grown woman knows a stroppy man is a red flag.

But unless something weird has happened, we are not dating.

I think men should trawl through profiles, read them, and only message people who they think they could bring at least as much value as they demand from them.

This is the same old strategy again, frame a trans rights argument around feminism. It's not right that men don't read women's profiles so therefore biological males should show up in their feed.

There is this bizarre fixation that a straight man will go through his feed and find the mythical attractive trans woman and his mind is changed and will give it a go, and if that trans woman was filtered out this "wonderful" match would never take place.

Why is it acceptable that men can filter out 90-year-old women, but not the trans women? Shouldn't men be forced to read the age of all women?

Lins77 · 12/08/2026 20:13

Of course, it doesn't specify which variety of trans person the relatively high numbers of lesbians and gay men would consider dating. I suspect for many it will be the person who is biologically the same sex. I've definitely seen quite a few lesbians in relationships with transmen.

MyAmpleSheep · 12/08/2026 20:09

JustEatThePizza · 12/08/2026 20:08

12% of cisgender people are open to dating a transgender person. Openness varies greatly by sexual orientation, with straight men at 3.3%.

You do realise that 3.3% of straight men is different to 3 times as many men?

I think that 99% of those 3.3% of straight men will run a mile when they find out their date still has a penis.

JustEatThePizza · 12/08/2026 20:08

Lexibletheflexible · 12/08/2026 09:07

how many people will date a trans person

+2 A study published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships found that about 12% of cisgender people are open to dating a transgender person. Openness varies greatly by sexual orientation, with straight men at 3.3%, straight women at 1.8%, gay men at 11.5%, lesbians at 29%, and bisexual/queer people at 52%.Survey Breakdown by GroupBisexual and queer people: 52% are open to dating a trans person.Lesbians: 29% are open to dating a trans person.Gay men: 11.5% are open to dating a trans person.Straight men: 3.3% are open to dating a trans person.Straight women: 1.8% are open to dating a trans person.

So to put this back into context on the dating app. Lets say a person who is a trans woman and open to date anyone signs up to Hinge. The TW ticks the "female" box and also the "bisexual" box and states an interest in both "men" and "women". That means they will show up in the searches of anyone who is seeking a woman of their age and location. So the only people they won't show up on are the searches of straight women. That's because straight women arent seeking other women. Bisexual and gay women are. Bisexual and straight men are.

It may well be that this TW is far more likely to meet a lesbian who will be interested or a bisexual person than a straight man, but it doesn't mean they shouldn't be present on the site. Especially on a site which embraces non-het sexualities.

I think men should trawl through profiles, read them, and only message people who they think they could bring at least as much value as they demand from them.

Well if I was a woman who had initially met you through an app (and it's perfectly possible to have a date and outside contact arranged plus be deleted) I'd want to know if you find it hard to follow established rules regardless of it was illegal or not given the safety issues with meeting strangers. Have you been given a warning before deletion? It's confusing to know how you found this out otherwise.

I don't want to meet the sort of woman who follows rules blindly either. I don't mean the "date someone safely" rules, I mean the do as you're told, don't ask questions, don't rock the boat sort of rules.

No I haven't had a warning, and I think I found out on the confirmation page of a report.

Not following an unjust rule is neither bad behaviour nor a red flag. And the likelihood of me matching, or getting on with a rules are rules sort of person, is vanishingly low.

My account hasn't been deleted, never said it had been, and if it had - it would be pretty hard to arrange a date no?

And why would I inform someone that I broke some, probably illegal and unenforceable, T&C docs?

I just like the idea of happy ever after as being the outcome from using a dating website. You can probably see from that I have never used one myself.

No idea why you feel that being banned from Hinge in this instance 'can behave online and follow boundaries whether he agrees with them or not because bad online behaviour is a red flag to me of bad boundaries in person.' Are you saying that he must accept that some men have a penis as the cost of using the site and to not do so is a red flag to other users of the site? Not seeing that at all. (He is not breaking the law or anything here).

The longer this thread goes the more personal it is and I am very much trying to steer away from jigsaw identification. But. I don't want to be on the damned things any more either, happily ever after, however unlikely, is the goal!! Not endless scrolling and swiping and messaging. tiresome.

Interesting use of the word 'trawl'. Even Lexi thinks it's a right pain.

If I may, as a man, I am picking up some misandry in her tone and language.

@SingleSexSpacesInSchools out of curiosity is the date you were going on someone from Hinge and was she aware your account had been deleted by Hinge for not following their T&C's?

Those figures are meaningless if they can't be broken down by sex.

It should be defining all its terms too. Are they defining 'lesbian' and 'straight men' by gender identity or by sex, for example?

I wouldn't be surprised if a non-trivial % of lesbians (sex definition) would date a TM. They are both women, after all. I imagine fewer lesbians would date a TW. Though there may be a significant statistical difference between those who say they would and those who actually have done.

spannasaurus · 12/08/2026 12:55

AimsAndObjectives · 12/08/2026 09:55

I haven't read the latest posts so I'm not sure of the context of this quoted study, but surely that info would be more useful if it broke 'trans person' down into TW and TM. For example, what % of lesbians would date a TW, what % a TM and what % both?

Those figures are meaningless if they can't be broken down by sex.

MyAmpleSheep · 12/08/2026 12:26

It’s beyond absurd that you can filter out Jewish women or Asian women, but not men who think they’re women.

This is why men often get so annoyed by the lack of filters that allows him to find the women he most wants quickly.

Don't ever go into advertising will you Lexible.

Hinge, the dating site that doesn't let you find the woman you want.

Given Lexi's assertion that so many men want to hook up with transwomen, I'd have thought being able to filter for that would be to their advantage.

There are so many illogical outcomes from the proposition that men prefer trans-identifying men for sex than women that thoughts about filtering on dating sites is very low on that long list.

The end of the human race for a start; who’s going to have babies? Not the trans-identifying men who are getting all the sex, obviously.
