I know it's a mistake but I thought this was rather funny :)

"Former Sun Editor Kelvin MacKenzie has praised Richard Ayoade’s show of support for cancelled comedian Richard Ayoade."

Anti LGBT rants?! You hope you can continue to enjoy his work?! God help me..🙄

In fairness this poster did apologise after they wrote that.

Sometimes a quote for a book is just a quote for an old friend's book by a fellow book writer.

I hope I can continue to enjoy the work of Richard Ayoade; I sincerely hope that him allowing a kind quote for Linehan's book was not an endorsement of Linehan's anti-LGBTQ rants.

That's the fear people have.

Someone will watch GB news to see stuff on some specific topic. And fin them being fairly sensible.

Then they might think - maybe these guys aren't as evil and stupid as I assumed, What else do they have to say?

And then they see a different take on some other topics, and maybe some of it isn't stupid and evil, or it's even convincing, or worst of all, they realize their former sources were really giving a strong slant on the issue.

And all of a sudden they are questioning their political allegiances and maybe thinking about things on their own.

You mean, kind of like how Andrew Tate got such a huge following? Say one or two things that kind of make sense, people listen attentively and THEN you can go on endless nonsensical rants? Wink

Anyway, the trick with GB news is to only watch clips via your TikTok for you page. Sensible gender critical stuff only is fed to me Grin

There is an article about him in the telegraph, but unfortunately it has not been archived.

He seems to be related to the Fox acting dynasty by marriage.

Arrgh! Just clicked on the shite that is gbnews. 🙄

Whatever you personally think of GB news, they have been unrelenting in their support of women's spaces. Unlike almost all other news outlets. Dan Wootton in particular has been fantastic and unwavering.

Ugh please - this mentality is so damaging. GB news thrives on an is predicated on creating and exploiting divisions in society. Don’t try she pretend there’s anything more to it - nobody is obliged to mindlessly absorb toxins just because they might be on the right side in the whole trans debate. Stopped clocks etc

Which is why you read widely. Read everything and read it critically. That's what I was taught about 1000 years ago by erudite professors who were obsessed with balance and critical thinking and examining one's position. People who advised Nelson Mandela read the IMF and World bank reports and the propaganda of the Apartheid regime. People who fled Chile read Pinochet and Thatcher. People who were involved in the Troubles read from both sides and the middle. The accepted wisdom was that you couldn't argue against a point until you could lay out what the point was from the POV of the people you disagreed with.

It made us better. Partisan reading is very very stupid. It is divisive whichever source you pick as your one and only. Whether it's The Guardian, The Independent or GB News. It makes you more stupid and certainly more ignorant. Even if it's only to know thine enemy, it's worth doing.

This is so true! Reas widely amd critically. Sure, some (all) outlets have an agenda. Some of the stuff in the DM is so transparent and some abhorrent. You don't "absorb" that stuff just by reading it though.

How do you know how utterly evil GB news is if you refuse to listen to what they have to say?

This feels to me like you are proud of how closed minded and divorced from reality you are. A while back Triggernometry had Aaron Bastani on their show for an interview. Arron owns and runs Novarra Media a website where I pretty much disagree with anything and everything they say. I found watching Aaron on Triggernometry really interesting, he was very polite and honest, I got to understand his perspective a bit. It dispelled my metal image of him being an idiot, and I thought he came acroos as a good person. I'm glad I watched the episode.

When you dismiss a media outlet out of hand through blind tribalism you lock yourself into only ever hearing the news and opinions you want to hear. You are looking to have your own biases reenforced and choosing to live life in a bubble where you only ever hear people who agree with you. This is really unhealthy. It also promotes the tribalist la la la I can't hear you divisions in society. Your high horse isn't nearly as tall as you think it is and it's a braying donkey not a horse.

"GB news thrives on an is predicated on creating and exploiting divisions in society."

Funnily enough that's how I feel about The Guardian, BBC, Channel 4, The Independent, The Metro, etc.

Is there any news outlet that is not "predicated on creating and exploiting divisions in society"?

Same here

On Richard Ayoade we’re getting closer to McCarthyism by the day

You said something nice about work from someone cancelled, down you go

Oh my. I think I've made the mistake of commenting without knowing everything Linehan has said and what has taken place, and not understanding all the intricacies of the controversy.

I'm a big Richard Ayoade fan. I love/d IT Crowd and everything he's done since. Don't really know anything about Linehan as what he says or does does not make it to US News.

Here's my understanding having read the article above--that Linehan has said controversial things about trans people, that Jonathan Ross and Richard Ayoade provided quotes in support of Linehan's book, and that others have taken offense to both Ross and Ayoade for having provided supportive quotes for Linehan's book. Certainly I could have missed something and be wrong on what's happened.

We in the US do use the term LGBTQ in an attempt, I suppose, not to leave anybody out, so I apologize if the use of that term is not acceptable. I had no idea that term itself is controversial to some who are included in it. I thought being accepting of and protecting the rights of everyone was the goal, and I believe that's why it's come to have so many letters.

I apologize for my lack of information and for ending up being offensive to you.

I should not have commented without knowing the whole series of events, which I still do not.

Sorry Sorry Sorry

Thank you. I appreciate it, and definitely accept your apology.

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/09/2023 13:33

@Ihavehadenoughalready just in future read what people actually write rather than edited, heavily edited, snippets and commentary from other people.

I know people who loathe and detest JKR and GL for 'what they've written' who haven't actually read it.

Never trust anyone to do your thinking for you. Not even us.

What an offensive post you’ve written. You certainly aren’t standing up for me, and I’m one of the letters you’ve rattled off. As a. LB-category woman, I can say Linehan regularly has stood up on my behalf.

This issue has taught me not to dismiss media outlets out of hand - as pp have said, GB News host Andrew Doyle and he's no swivel-eyed loon.

I've even softened my stance (slightly) on Toby Young with the Free Speech Union. Piers Morgan - even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Kelvin McKenzie on the other hand, I wouldn't piss on if he were on fire. This will never change. I'd feel queasy to see a headline made out of him standing up for me.

ValancyRedfern · 17/09/2023 08:36

Given the choice between people who don't care about lesbians but think they should have their sexuality respected, and people who don't care about lesbians and send them death and rape threats for not dating TW, I know which I'd choose.

Abhannmor · 17/09/2023 08:19

A family member watches GB News. Well , she has it on in the background more like. I probably wouldn't leave the house if I believed the relentless doom and gloom on there. Farage and Arlene Foster! The dynamic duo who brought you Hard Brexit are here to explain why life is a shit sandwich 🥪.

They are rightb about gender woo. And they've realised it is a good attack line for the Tories. Not because they care about lesbians mark you...

WarriorN · 17/09/2023 07:55

Excellent gif.

There are sooooo many of moss that are just divine this week.

Because of the bbc and woman's hour, I've been able to open conversations with other local mums (many hcps) about the whole debate. And they agree.

Because the bbc is what they tend to watch/ listen to.

And Mrs T's post is why I am not abandoning the bbc given most of the country just switch it on and listen.

I'll complain to them and hold them to account. Which they must have given their status.

Yup. Knowing what everyone is seeing is actually important.

And I am gif-deficient as well. Angry. <--- shame and anger.

Buffypaws · 17/09/2023 07:27

Glinner went on tv and got treated like a cunt for saying it’s not ok to give kids shite like lupron, and has now clearly been vindicated eg by Hannah Barnes’s book, the increasing number of detransitioners etc

he’s been accused of being anti lgbtq because he’s pointed out that certain organisations’ affiliations with paedophiles is not really ok.

the fact that people don’t address these very real issues and try to make out he is somehow evil is beyond me

He’s not always kind but the TRAs constantly going on about how he’s divorced… it’s fucking outrageous. And no one seems to notice that bit.

some people are fucking idiots

Is anyone else wishing to be a fly on the wall of his house this morning, being a man in comedy, sticking up for Linehan and also being brother in law to Fox?!

Wish I could do gifs

@Ihavehadenoughalready Linehan has stood up for Ls being attacked and called vile names for not wanting to date/sleep with male-bodied Ts with fully intact genitalia. Stop the forced LGB teaming with TQ.

"Linehan's anti-LGBTQ rants"

You seem to have spilt your Alphabet Soup on that post. Are you one of those people who calls the LGB Alliance a "hate group"?

Of course you can. It's only women with opinions you have to burn at the stake and cancel. Men can carry on their merry way. They're allowed opinions, preferences, likes and dislikes. And you can carry on giving them your money.

It's how you can tell penis-havers from vagina-havers when in doubt. See who is threatened with rape and murder for having an opinion. That will be vaginas all the way down.

HTH.
