New sports club at DC’s high school only open to LGBTQ+ pupils and their allies

Are they legally allowed to exclude GC pupils? Or pupils who are not one of the special alphabet children?

This is a really great club - nothing like the school has offered before. Seems a shame to limit attendance based on sexuality/gender ideology rather than interest/ability.

We’re in Scotland if that makes a difference.

I for one am not going to lose any sleep over a straight boy not getting to do everything he wants all the time. Sounds like he probably doesn’t hear the word ‘no’ very often.

How about the lesbian girls being encouraged to think that they are boys, and that they need wrong-sex hormones and a mastectomy to be their true selves? And being pressured to accept boys who identify as girls as lesbians like them? Going to lose any sleep over them?

JanesLittleGirl · 13/09/2023 13:36

Reading this thread has been like watching Albert Einstein explaining a telephone to a pigeon. It doesn't matter how many ways Einstein presents the facts, the pigeon cannot understand.

Support grps for gay kids doesn’t turn or make them gay.

You're right, they don't. Years of evidence across many cultures have found that it's pretty much impossible to make someone gay or stop them being gay.

But the evidence is that some support groups for LGBTQ kids do turn some kids trans. Kids who would otherwise come to terms with their sexed bodies or find some less dangerous outlet for their other discomforts.

Schools shouldn't run support groups for trans kids for much the same reasons that schools shouldn't run dieting groups or suicide support groups. These are far outside a school's ability to offer safe support.

This isn't about a straight boy not getting to his own way all the time, this is about children only being allowed to join a school sports club if they subscribe to a particular political ideology which is deeply problematic and has nothing to do with the sport being played.

As has been explained to this poster ad infinitum - but they appear unable to assimilate this information and continue to ignore the questions that have been put to them repeatedly.

‘You have missed the entire point of this thread, I suspect deliberately, if you think anyone here is arguing for 'don't say gay'.’

then you need to read a bit closer. There are plenty of posts on here saying a LGBTQ club shouldn’t exist AT ALL.

An LGBTQ+ sports club has no reason to exist, because sexual orientations and gender identities have nothing to do with sport.

Even if separate provision had been made for the rest of the children, who do not fall into this bizarre made up category, which it hasn't, it is deeply unhealthy for the children in question to other themselves in this way.

‘Don’t say gay’ doesn’t work. It didn’t work during Section 28 in this country and it won’t work now.
Support grps for gay kids doesn’t turn or make them gay. Banning them won’t make these kids any less gay. Nor will it ‘turn’ straight kids gay.
Despite the claims on this thread about ‘ideology’.
Feels we’re back in the 80s some
days.

Literally no one on this thread is saying "don't say gay".

Straw man argument.

What we are all saying is that in a group that includes TQ, there will be boys who identify as girls, and that young lesbians who join this group are likely to be pressured to view them as girls for relationship purposes.

Organisations like Stonewall, Gendered Intelligence and Just Like Us think that lesbians should be open to mixed-sex relationships if the man / boy in question identifies as a woman / girl.

We are concerned that lesbians in a group like this will either be pressured not to be lesbian or encouraged to think that if they’re not stereotypical girls they must actually be trans boys.

This is worse than Section 28 ever was, because it’s homophobia disguised as inclusivity.

I can’t put it any more clearly than that. Although I strongly suspect you’re misunderstanding on purpose.

It's not even close to what is being discussed. I'm so fed up with seeing bad faith takes on this.
If you genuinely want things to get better, try reading and responding to what posters are actually saying.
Putting bigotry and hate in hearts when it isn't there helps absolutely no one.

Posted too soon!
Would you have sex (as a lesbian) with someone with a penis because they wanted to?

MyHornCanPierceTheSky · 13/09/2023 11:56

@Perhapsperhapsto does your definition of gay encompass males with a penis who call themselves a lesbian and state they are entitled to have sex with female lesbians and those who don't are bigoted Terfs. Would you

And for what it’s worth, I’m a lesbian who would have loved the opportunity to have gone to a grp like this as a teen.

Where everyone was required to be politically compliant to the idea you need to be open to sex with men if they transition and tell you they feel different inside?

You mean that kind of prejudice?

Perhapsperhapsto · 13/09/2023 10:24

You and your child are clearly prejudging this group, OP. Perhaps he should actually go to a session - given how much he lives this activity- and he might find that the other children don’t actually fit his assumptions and prejudices ?

RufustheFactualReindeer · 13/09/2023 09:28

basic common sense right there

Have you noticed the number of lesbians in this thread who wouldn’t be keen on an LGBTQ club?

It's weird how many of us say this on multiple threads and no one hears.

It's all very British Rail and 'wrong kind of snow'.

Not many people on this thread know where their towel is.

It sounds to me as if it’s the gender ideology part the OP’s son has the issue with, not the LGB part, & I’m right behind him on that

that’s my take

EmpressaurusOfCats · 13/09/2023 08:34

Perhapsperhapsto · 13/09/2023 07:34

@DeeKavCoffee ’This thread seems more about complaining about the fact that there is a club for LGBTQ+ pupils, rather than complaining that there is no alternative. ‘

totally agree. And the OP seem to be happy to drag this one on without actually going to the school, who would presumably tell her - he’s not excluded just as they would if a club was aimed a BAME kids in a mostly white school. But if he goes don’t be racist. And don’t go to the LGBTQ club if you’re not going to be nice to those kids either .

How old is OPs son that he has such hard GC views that he can’t even mingle with LGBTQ kids at a lunchtime club without it affecting him negatively??

Have you noticed the number of lesbians in this thread who wouldn’t be keen on an LGBTQ club?
Lesbians can be and are gender critical. Gays & bisexuals too. Gender ideology as summed up in the TQ+ has nothing to do with being same-sex attracted, which is the definition of LGB. If anything it’s the exact opposite.
It sounds to me as if it’s the gender ideology part the OP’s son has the issue with, not the LGB part, & I’m right behind him on that. Is that right @SirChenjins?

RufustheFactualReindeer · 13/09/2023 08:32

Oh my goodness millicent that sounds awful

of course those abusive children would actually be allowed to join as long as they said they were allies

they don’t actually need to be friends with any of those children…just allies

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 13/09/2023 08:30

rufus same here. DS1s school no one cared if you were LGB/T/anything else
black/white/sky pink blue. They didn't need a Club of their own because they could be openly and unashamedly themselves all the time.

DS2s school has such an issue with homophobic bullying (that the school deny) that the dickheads straight kids shout homophobic slurs through the door of the room the LGBT club meets in.
