New sports club at DC’s high school only open to LGBTQ+ pupils and their allies

Are they legally allowed to exclude GC pupils? Or pupils who are not one of the special alphabet children?

This is a really great club - nothing like the school has offered before. Seems a shame to limit attendance based on sexuality/gender ideology rather than interest/ability.

We’re in Scotland if that makes a difference.

LGBT clubs are justified. If there are remaining spaces after LGBT it’s fine to offer them to others. The thing I would take issue with is the term ‘allies’

Well unless its one of the ?3 sports where men and women compete as equals then I'm guessing your child is still going to have issues with boys competing as girls and vice versa.

Sport, as we know, is one of the areas where sex really matters. That means that "third" spaces for trans pupils to play are entirely legitimate.

Which would make sense if it was a third space for trans kids. But it's not. It's the only space. And it's not just for trans kids.

It’s fine for them to offer a club to LGBT only.
And to set out expectations on behaviour etc for club members. As they are also welcoming other DC (‘allies’) then the club organiser would be acting unfairly not to welcome all DC.

If the club organiser is going to to welcome all DC, how is it a LGBTQ+ club? and why is it called that, if it's for all DC?

If your kid's school started a kayaking club and badged it as for deer hunting kids and their allies, would your vegetarian DC be happy to say they were an ally and go? Do you think it's ok for a vegetarian kid to have to be an ally to deer hunters, in order to go to the kayaking club?

As I said earlier, it’s not a team based sport.

@Loopytiles being reasonable won’t get you anywhere on this thread! All LGBTQ clubs should be banned apparently…

Perhapsperhapsto · 15/09/2023 07:03

@SirChenjins perhaps you should name this amazing activity, a little context might help.

The OP's son doesn't object to the people, he objects to the ideology.

But how does that play out in practice? He joins then complains about teams being selected based on gender, or partly on gender, rather than sex?

MargotBamborough · 13/09/2023 17:24

Perhapsperhapsto · 13/09/2023 17:01

So OP, you’re now concerned that your son will hurt someone or get hurt in a club aimed at LGBTQ kids? Is that it?
I’m struggle to follow your logic now. Our school has lots of kids gender clubs, where appropriate. This club specifically puts kids in physical danger??

Exactly how many gender clubs is it appropriate for a school to have?

I wonder how many scientific discoveries will not be made, books not written, sporting records not broken and paintings not painted because a whole generation wasted their entire youth worrying about their imaginary genders instead of learning new skills.

SirChenjins · 13/09/2023 17:16

That's been patently obvious for a while now. Fly free, little pigeon...

@Froodwithatowel As if by magic, the random bollocks has just been posted above

Perhapsperhapsto · 13/09/2023 17:04

For f’s sake, just go and speak to the school. Lodge your complaint where it might have some effect or move on.
the coulda shoulda woulda here is pointless.
What IF it was judo oh but it’s not…

Froodwithatowel · 13/09/2023 17:03

Is anyone actually reading any posts on this thread or just stuffing random bollocks at the end of it?

Because I have major concerns about the kittens in this club and the OP's worrying attitude towards jelly and right wing fidget toys.

Some people are working really hard on not getting the point.

Sigh.

If the space includes TQ+ believers in gender ideology, it isn't 'safe' for lesbian or gay children, is it? As gender ideology denies same sex attraction, and defines lesbians as people of either sex who define themselves as female and are attracted to females. Quite aside from the point that a sport club should not be based on a political belief.

SirChenjins · 13/09/2023 15:23

Agree @nothingcomestonothing

Let’s suppose it’s judo (it’s not). Trans ideology says that in this club, male bodied transgirls should be able to compete against lesbians. The lesbians say ‘nope, I don’t feel comfortable being grappled by a male, I’m concerned about being hurt, and actually, my views are GC’ The trans girl says ‘I identify as a girl, I have every right to participate as a girl, you’re being transphobic’. Children (like my son) say ‘I’d just like to take part in this sport without having to declare my allegiance to a political ideology’.

Meanwhile, in the other clubs, the teams are mixed equally, or if it’s one on one then it’s based on sex, and no child is required to be an ally of anything or have an understanding of an ideology that is complex and multifaceted. They just get on with playing the sport.

Froodwithatowel · 13/09/2023 15:17

Ah. So a political safe space from anyone with other beliefs? Or concerns about the beliefs?

Like a religious extremist group isolating itself from society's contamination? Children you are safe in here from the dangers of the infidel! In here, reality and boundaries shall not intrude.

Fgs we're talking about children. Are you really a fan of politically indoctrinating children? Are you really thinking to shove non compliant children in the gulag as well as all the women with needs and issues and beliefs that don't enable special men? And include in that the lesbian children for example who want to just be allowed to be sexually attracted to biological women and won't nicely be bi on command rather than hurt male feelings? Or the girls who get distressed and reluctant at getting their clothes off in the shower with a child they perceive as a boy? Exclude them until they stop crying and validate boys with their bodies?

I seriously am starting to wonder what some people are smoking that they are actually not able to understand all this! Whatever it is please share it around because escaping this kind of nutjobbery gets ever more attractive.

The space is not safe is if it discriminates or requires pupils to lie to gain access.

The space IS safe of it excludes people who object to the people it includes though?

Reading this thread has been like watching Albert Einstein explaining a telephone to a pigeon. It doesn't matter how many ways Einstein presents the facts, the pigeon cannot understand.

Yep. In addition to that, Einstein has recognised the pigeons’s limitations and asked it basic questions. Instead of answering them it’s simply repeated itself over and over and over again…

Presumably its a sport that can be played mixed-sex? In which case there's no bar against a GC pupil from defining as an "Ally" - I assume your child is not actively homophobic or transphobic (for the sensible meaning of transphobic where disagreeing with a belief system isn't transphobia) and your child is happy to affirm that peers who are LGBTQ shouldn't be discriminated against (no requirement to believe in gendermagic to affirm this) - they should therefore be welcome.

Do you think a child should have to declare themself an ally of Marxism, to join the school badminton club? Or an ally of Zoroastrianism, to join the school fencing club? Children should not have to declare allegiance to a political ideology, to join a school sports club. It's not about him being homophobic or transphobic, it's about a school restricting a sports club on the basis of children agreeing with a belief system which has no relevance to school or to the sport.
