New sports club at DC’s high school only open to LGBTQ+ pupils and their allies

Are they legally allowed to exclude GC pupils? Or pupils who are not one of the special alphabet children?

This is a really great club - nothing like the school has offered before. Seems a shame to limit attendance based on sexuality/gender ideology rather than interest/ability.

We’re in Scotland if that makes a difference.

Isn’t this the third space we want them to fight for?

It's not a third space. It's the only space to learn this new, niche sport. There is no group for kids who do not share the political beliefs (can hardly believe I'm typing that!).

LG&B people don’t need a third space!

The only reason T people need a third space for sports is because they’ve taken actions that make their birth sex space unsuitable in some way (eg a transman on T can’t compete on a female team because T is a banned substance in sports) or in the case of transwomen, because they don’t want to compete with their sex.

LGB &TQ is an incoherent grouping when it comes to sports clubs but I agree that T teens would benefit from tailored access to fitness/exercise/sports.

Great. So an inclusive third space it it. If only we could solve everything else so easily.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 10/09/2023 17:51

And LGB kids would benefit from not being grouped with the T.

A lot of people seem to have ignored every single one of the posts by lesbians on this thread explaining why an LGBTQ club is very unlikely to be supportive of lesbian girls.

It is lgbt AND straight allies

I do not understand why you haven’t acknowledged this

Pride pretty much is "straight Pride" these days!

For the 509th time in this thread, this is not about gay kids. This is a group offering a sport only to kids who declare their allegiance to a political ideology. A misogynistic, homophobic ideology. That is not fair, proportional, equal or inclusive.

The best precis I've seen so far, thank you.

‘It's a bit weird. I think maybe some is because they start having these clubs available when the kids are about 10 or 11, and most have little real sense of their sexuality. ‘

not true. And I do wonder why straight people insist that there’s no way gay kids would have any inkling of the fact they might be gay when they think it’s perfectly normally for 11 year old straight kids to have crushes etc

Rather difficult though to create the impression that 'LGBT' is code for nerds and odd balls and non sporty types...

bit rough for the LGBT kids who aren't, or who are not keen to embrace that image. If that's the case, there's some indirect discrimination going on, as well as absolute political naivety/quite fantastic amounts of political bias.

It's a bit weird. I think maybe some is because they start having these clubs available when the kids are about 10 or 11, and most have little real sense of their sexuality. What they are identifying with is often just a sense of being an outsider. And in some cases also a kind of aesthetic, something like goth or artistic etc.

What about the gay and lesbian pupils who don’t buy transactivism? Or are GC?

This is the question nobody seems to want to answer.

Perhaps you could read a few more posts and find the ones from gay people (I'm one) explaining what the issues are.

There's a lot of them, they're quite easy to find.

Yes. I’m another.

‘school was easily browbeaten then, thats a shame’

fead some of the posts on here and tell me you’re surprised. How many think that gay kids shouldn’t even have something geared towards them? Despite gay people saying it’s needed and that their lives would have been much easier if they’d have had something similar as kids?

If this club is actually supportive of LGB kids & not pushing the concept of gender ideology. But given the TQ on the end, that doesn’t seem likely.

RufusthefIoraImissingreindeer · 09/09/2023 14:48

The school in the op is letting straight kids in as well

One of my children attended special needs activities at school to do with building confidence etc they didn't let anyone that didn't fit the basic criteria

School should have stuck to its guns

How many times do we see people kicking off about uniforms and the schools don't fold over that

It's a shame your School didn't just refuse.

I suspect there would be a lot more sympathy for the point of view that this is needed if the same people saying they need these things weren't also saying that biological women don't need their own sporting categories or rape support groups and if they want these things they are bigots who cannot even be left alone to do bigoted things like discuss their rape trauma among themselves, but must be stopped.

Interesting logic from Gay Times:

But there are other reasons that the idea that lesbians are more likely to be anti-trans doesn’t add up. One is that being a lesbian and being trans are not mutually exclusive – sexual orientation and gender are different parts of our identities. You can be trans and a lesbian.
