So the ‘formal re-education’ begins

I don’t know if anyone has been following this with Jordan Peterson but he has been ordered to undergo a self funded Re-education program in Canada, having lost a recent court case.

I have a feeling he isn’t well liked on here but I actually really like him. I’ve listened to many hours of his lectures and I don’t believe he is a misogynist - I think that’s the accusation that makes him a MN hate figure.

Anyhow I thought I’d include a link to the story if anyone is interested

Canadian Court Orders Jordan Peterson to Take Re-education Program

In January of this year, best-selling author Jordan Peterson was told by Canada’s College of Psychologists of Ontario to undergo re-education therapy for his very public statements, not on professional psychology and science, but politics and culture.

I already feel sorry for the person chosen to re-educate JP.
Please let it all be filmed or audio recorded.

IcakethereforeIam · 04/09/2023 11:44

I think he'd likely re-educate his re-educator.

He will love Big Brother

For a moment there I thought you were proposing a subsequent TV career Grin

Ditto.

Can you imagine going into work and being told he was your next "project".

No "normal" person is going to want that job because you would know that it is going to become front and center in the whole debate and no matter what you do it will be wrong. And then you get a complaint and you get sent for re-education.

Free speech is free speech. You have to allow people whose views distress and repulse you to speak too, not just those in your comfortable bubble.

Challenge their views. Argue. Discuss. Ignore. Mute. Block.

All viable options for the individual.

That wasn't my point, and you know it.

This is literally like moaning it's not in the Guardian then posting an article from a Tommy Robinson-esque propaganda leaflet.. These are dangerous, awful people!

THAT is my point.

And those bad people are still allowed opinions. And to publish them.

THAT is the point of free speech. It can't just be for your approved publications.

Then post up a better link

Or better still post up the sections of the article which contains the propaganda and explain how the section/ article is being used to push their agenda.

TRA are all about twisting the meanings of words and ideas. If you beleive that the people objecting to their aims are doing the same to achive a different outcome explain and educate the reader. Teach them to think about what they read and to not accept it or any article as gospel.

Oh dear, another person who can read minds and knows what others are thinking... perhaps @AnSolas can go on the same social media re education programme and learn to do better.

Within the church-article is this link to The Financial Post. It is clickable, and a very good segment from a solicitor Expert appears. Recommended reading.

The Financial Post lamented, “The impact of this decision is to empower woke bodies everywhere to discipline members who express unpopular opinions that cause someone ‘offence.’”
They continue,
This decision will inevitably motivate political enemies of any member of a regulatory body — whether it be one of lawyers, osteopaths, engineers or, well, psychologists — who have no legal basis for any claim otherwise, to harass that person by filing complaints about their expressed opinions or writings.

Lamented is the clickable Word, possibly not in my C/p

Thanks 👍

He's not going to make it easy for them, is he?

I'll actually really appreciate watching the process, I've no experience of HR or diversity people interfering in my head, no training, no rules beyond my own rules - it's my company, I can do what I damn well like within the law. The only place my words are censored is here on mumsnet.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 04/09/2023 08:48

With my feminist beliefs I don't like Jordan Petersen and I don't like the Canadian College of Psychologists of Ontario either. It's like King Kong vs. Godzilla, I don't care who loses as long as they all make a nice big spectacle of themselves. Though my money's on Jordan Petersen to win- he is knowledgeable, media-savvy and articulate and he will cast far more light on their confusion and prejudices than they will on his.

So bring out the biscuits - the good biscuits!

HolyHeck · 04/09/2023 08:43

Canada has become a totalitarian state.

Desecratedcoconut · 04/09/2023 08:42

I find Jordan Peterson incredibly frustrating to listen to, especially in interviews. I don't think taking every observation of your interviewee and reimagining it through the lens of a religious narrative is particularly intelligent or profound. I know that's his bag but I'm not sure how it gained enough traction to make him such a popular Canadian? 😁

Anyway, clearly this is an outrageous infringement on his freedom and another step towards the dystopian future of right-think authoritarianism...but watching him shut down the re-education process by mangling every sentence of his re-educator into yet another painful analogy until they would willingly stick their own head in a blender will be highly entertaining.

I've just watched the episode of Wolf Hall in which Thomas More is required to put his signature to an oath to avoid execution. Nothing changes does it?

Nope.

I don't know why people bother watching horror movies.

ButtonSister · 04/09/2023 08:12

Baldieheid · 03/09/2023 16:14

Interesting.

So he has to parrot certain magic words in order to remain a practicing professional?

If he doesn't parrot the magic words, his career is effectively destroyed?

Remind me - the people enforcing this somehow think they're the good guys, don't they?

Blackscrackleanddrag · 04/09/2023 08:05

I like JP too. He clearly deeply cares about people and is doing what he can to help them to improve their lives. He becomes genuinely distressed at human suffering.

When I have read his stuff the accusations against him haven’t held up and have misrepresented what he says to the point of lying.

The debate on how far inequality for women is due to social vs evolutionary factors is one I am happy to have. I don’t hold that against him.
