Alice has really let it all out in RollingStone.

Full JKR.

Of course RS has put in all sort of passive aggressive play downs "debunking the bathroom debacle" and making out he's not got it quite right and is a bit "confused."

AC has described how he can see that self ID means unfettered access to women. Men saying they're women. Which RS has down played.

Rolling Stone's 'debunking' is just pure gaslighting for women and nothing on the impact to children. So uninformed.

There's nothing to see here, there's no problem.

Eurgh, utter irony, I bet there's so many music people who are gender critical. Musicians are so often the original freaky don't fit in kids.

Most likely not on the average MNers radar but currently happening in the (metal subgenre) Deathcore community. The the singer of Thy Art Is Murder recently shared a Matt Walsh vid of a mum asking her toddler if they are a 'boy or a girl' and the singer responded very negatively (I don't condone what he said btw, but emotions run high when it comes to children). Now Alex Terrible (singer of Slaughter to Prevail) has made a post that is of the essence 'I'm simply aheterosexual male, I don't care or want to know what you get up to. Leave kids alone. Don't care if you cancel me'

Mixed responses on the Deathcore subreddit so far.

“So I say let somebody at least become sexually aware of who they are before they start thinking about if they’re a boy or a girl. A lot of times, I look at it this way, the logical way: If you have these genitals, you’re a boy. If you have those genitals, you’re a girl. There’s a difference between ‘I am a male who is a female, or I’m a female that’s a male’ and wanting to be a female. You were born a male. OK, so that’s a fact. You have these things here. Now, the difference is you want to be a female. OK, that’s something you can do later on if you want to. But you’re not a male born a female.”

possibly the most straightforward comment and I totally agree with him.

See also Dee Snider (makes me wonder if there is a WhatsApp group for Gender Atheist Rock Stars?)

(plus one for the disappointment re: male musicians and muso adjacent men with a history of sexually abusive behaviour towards minor girls. I hope things have changed for younger generations but somehow I doubt it).

Dee Snider: "So I hear I'm transphobic. Really?"

Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider has issued a response after being dropped as a performer at the upcoming San Fransisco Pride Parade.

Amazing! A man (who knows he’s a man) with a traditionally female name, with long hair, who often wears makeup doesn’t think that a name, hair or makeup makes someone a woman.

It was like you'd written a letter to a major magazine, and your mum, dad or teacher intercepted it, put in these correction notes scrawled in the margins, and the whole thing was published in full and unamended, lol.

"I'm six, and don't like eating veg"
it's bad not to eat veg, Alice needs to have his five a day

Rudderneck · 24/08/2023 10:30

Wow, that was one of the worst pieces of writing I can remember ever reading.

It sounded like it was written by a 14 year old.

ArabeIIaScott · 24/08/2023 10:25

Obvs Peel's not a musician, but you know what I mean. In the music world.

ArabeIIaScott · 24/08/2023 10:25

littleripper · 24/08/2023 09:11

He's a grim man who glorified sex with children. Sable Starr said he abused her when she was 13.
He's right about this but he's revolting

Ugh. So many musicians I respected before turn out to have this horrible history. John Peel, David Bowie, Iggy Pop ...

This argument that 'gender expression' and 'gender identity' are not the same is sneaky. It's clear they would be the same in a lot of people's minds, and 'expressing yourself in a different gender' could lead to a new 'gender identity'.

They're obviously saying it to counter the argument that genderism is ultimately about stereotypes. 'Boys dress and behave like x, girls dress and behave like y, how you dress and behave determines how you identify and therefore what you are.' And also: 'x is a boy gender thing, girls who do x are not being girls'.

Indeed. Clearly Alice sees right through that. Just like Dee Snider did.

I've added some Alice support on the Twitter thread.

Looking at the ratio of people reading the main RS tweet (37.2k so far) and liking it (55 so far), I'm assuming most people are in agreement with Alice here. Most of the comments seem to support that viewpoint too from the ones I looked through.

MowingTheTerf · 24/08/2023 09:22

I remember when RollingStone had an article about one of the Wachowski brothers and was very clear about AGP.

And then you look at what the magazine is today.

Mochudubh · 24/08/2023 08:52

I'm glad to see this. He has a reputation as one of the genuinely nicest guys in the business.

I remember him doing School's Out on the Muppet Show.

zurala · 24/08/2023 08:41

I've always loved Alice Cooper and I love him even more now. That "article" is utter shite. It's not even an article!

EdithStourton · 24/08/2023 08:37

Oh fabulous! He's spent his life bucking against gender stereotypes with the name and the make-up.

The more people who come out and say that the emperor is starkers, the better.

Abhannmor · 24/08/2023 08:36

I want him to be Elected!

ArabeIIaScott · 24/08/2023 08:32

He's trending on Twitter.

Mamette · 24/08/2023 08:27

Yes they’ve said a whole load of stuff to cover their own arses but they still ran his comments verbatim. That makes me think hmm.

They gave him the platform. He will get so much support for this. Everything he says is so sensible.

TheGreatATuin · 24/08/2023 08:18

I'm not even bothered about RS 'debunking' him. Ultimately, they've used their own platform to share what he's said with a lot of people.
He's got his words out there and I'm willing to bet that the majority of people reading it will be quietly agreeing that he's right, and thinking that RS are making fools of themselves.

ArabeIIaScott · 24/08/2023 08:18

The headlines are pretty clear.

It's what everyone knows, ffs. Just takes more people standing up and saying it.

Alice Cooper
TheGreatATuin · 24/08/2023 08:08

I wonder how long it'll be before some smug little TRA calls him a hypocrite for wearing make up and having a name like Alice, while spectacularly missing the point.

Good on him. I used to love him when I was a young teen. Time for a re-listen.

Lottapianos · 24/08/2023 08:05

He's always seemed like a good egg who has his head screwed on. Good for him

Regarding other musicians, linking Roisin Murphy.

She may retract mind you.

That article has really got under my skin.

And yes it's the Gaslighting of women and girls.

Don't have time to be a tweet warrior but I hope that tweet gets inundated with women illustrating how wrong that sanctimonious little journalist is.

I expect AC knew it would be like that and probably has faith truth will out.
