I may have to stop visiting Premier Inns (owned by Whitbread), pity but we were tending to bypass them lately anyway. Travelodge not on the list and their beds are no longer as crap as they were.

I took money out of one fund management company after discovering they were pushing this crap and I wont put money with Virgin or travel with them.

Shocking to see how many of the big law firms are in that Top 100. And Severn Trent in position 23 - you'd think that a water company had better things to spend its money on - like infrastructure improvements so it doesn't keep discharging sewage into rivers!! That a list of shame that is Angry

It does seem odd to see some of the organisations listed who are wasting their money on this. Victim Support in third place - how do they have spare cash for this? Surely there are more important things to be spending their money on!

nzborn · 19/08/2023 10:47

Fuck me, Victim support ( sorry about the potty mouth )

AdultFemaleMorningsider · 19/08/2023 10:41

Happy not to see my employer on the list. Can't be the only person here with a major financial decision on the horizon, looking down the list to see which of my shortlisted companies are on the list and mentally upgrading the ones that aren't!

Datun · 19/08/2023 10:40

mrshoho · 19/08/2023 10:24

There's got to be a financial incentive somewhere along the way for these organisations to fall over themselves to get on SW's good list. I long for the day when to be associated with SW is not a good look.

The only thing I can think of is that they think it will make them more attractive as a business. When in reality, no one picks a business on the basis of the rainbow posters in the window.

My feeling is that they didn't think it would harm, and it's cheap, so why not.

And the dedicated EDI person did all the running, the admin, the liaison. And dealt with all the training, etc. justifying their position.

But now the compliance has spiralled out of all control, and is looking like ideological batshittery, which is clearly highly controversial politically.

But, as was planned in the beginning, the masterstroke of tying transgender issues to LGB issues makes extrication more tricky.

Crouton19 · 19/08/2023 10:21

Hmm, my employer does not use SW but has partnered with another org that works closely with SW, so no diversity champions scheme but all the associated training, internal comms may as well be directly from SW. I'm not sure why they bother as surely without the ranking, what is the point, but I do know that banks are starting to offer better rates for companies which improve environmental performance so perhaps it is a lender requirement. As others have said, why isn't it enough to show compliance with the law!?

RealityFan · 19/08/2023 10:20

Too bad the govt couldn't have done this years ago and run the shop competently. Then, they might have had a chance in 2024.

Q is, when Labour get the keys next year, do they re invite Stonewall back in? I mean, aren't those the sweet nothings that "ummmmmm, wwwwwwell" Iain is whispering in Sir Keir's ear?

If you want to have a laugh at the absolute suckers on the list of gullible griftees ...

https://www.stonewall.org.uk/top-100-employers/full-list

They had to recalculate Barclays' score - presumably after a late appeal?! (can you imagine actually giving a fuck?) - which goes to show that banks do have EDI twats working for them who push this religico-political nonsense onto their corporate ethos.

Yes.

They've managed to create a fake need to employ a dedicated person who ensures compliance to a set of rules they made up!

And this person makes ever more extreme acts of obedience to stay in favour.

Meanwhile no-one else says anything because it's not that much money and anyway it gives them a nice sense of virtue.

Except now stonewall's barmy, power mad overreach is making 'compliance' look like crazed ideological fealty.

Run!!

ArabeIIaKarenScott · 19/08/2023 10:11

I don't know if I'm expaining that well.

It's not like we have a charity handing out gold stars and trophies for 'not employing child labour', is it?

ArabeIIaKarenScott · 19/08/2023 10:10

Heliotroper · 19/08/2023 09:59

Kemi needs to go on the attack and point out the absurdity of a list produced by a charity that drops organizations as soon as the cheques dry up. Publicly challenge the fools who are still sending their money on. Tell people it is a racket.

Surely if there's any kind of a list it should be from the EHRC? And not done in a 'competition' style, just in a 'we comply with requisite law' way.

In an abstract way, I find the idea of point scoring EDI really weird, tbh. Either an organisation is being fair and upholding the law or they're not - it's not like you can be 'super good at compliance' or 'better at respecting the law than your competitors'.

The whole idea is non discrimination, which shoudl really be a given, tbh - it's like holding a competition to see 'who can be least murderous or fraudulent'. This system suggest that unless one takes steps to address it, one is de facto discriminatory. The implication is that we are all natural born sinners who must recant, repent, and be educated ...

WhiteFire · 19/08/2023 10:05

Credit where credit is due for SW though. Charge people to join your scheme, then charge them to do what is needed to 'improve', then charge them to stay in the scheme, then charge them for more 'improvements'. And round and round it goes.

In terms of an income stream, they nailed it. (Note the past tense)

All of the banks will be pushing this because most of the biggest (USA) asset management companies are pushing this

Been seen as a "good citizen" effects everything from share price to borrowing ability to what management can boast about at formal dinners.

Yes. It's making it sound as though stonewall kicked the off in a fit of pique because other departments were leaving.

Crap, isn't it? It's disgusting that regulatory bodies are on political allegiance lists.

It really annoys me, but I keep my GC thoughts very firmly to myself at work, as - despite recent ET judgments - I don't want to test the waters at any firm I'm at as to their knowledge of, and compliance with, those judgments. And with the SRA being captured, if it did go properly tits up, I'm not sure I'd get a fair hearing!

whenindoubtgotothelibrary · 19/08/2023 10:00

Good news.

AutumnCrow · 19/08/2023 09:59

NoWordForFluffy · 19/08/2023 09:58

The worst thing for me, as a solicitor, is that while I can avoid the firms on the list, my regulatory body is on it, so it's not possible to avoid SW completely. It's rather worrying, to be honest.

Banks, lawyers and unis head the list, it seems.

Which is not very reassuring.

TodayInahurry · 19/08/2023 09:57

This was one of the reason’s NatWest had a major disaster over de-banking Mr Farage, they have taken on board all the Stonewall, B Corp etc rules. These new dictates are totally at odds with the running of a bank and heads rolled. All the banks are involved in the evil de-banking concept. Tens of thousands have had their accounts closed. We need to keep a constant watch on these new Marxist cults

AutumnCrow · 19/08/2023 09:57

Hopefully by next year attention will have focused very much on the NHS memberships of this scheme. I know Steve 'Snail's Pace' Barclay wants the NHS to dump Stonewall, by all accounts so it may actually happen by 2024. We certainly need to keep challenging the illegality of Annexe B.

With a bit luck, Stonewall will soon be scrabbling to put together a top 3, comprising a sweet shop in Hove and the Two Spirit Societies from the Universities of GodKnowsWhere and NoIDon'tKnowEither.

GCAcademic · 19/08/2023 09:56

What a handy list of employers to avoid if you’re a woman.

'Purged,' eh? very Stalinist. I'm sure all those departments are terrified now.

How did we get to the position where Stonewall got so many companies and govt departments paying for their approval? just how?

It’s so bad
