I hadn't seen anything about this on X/Twitter previously, but apparently some activists have been putting pressure on the venue and they've cancelled an upcoming event called Comedy Unleashed because one of the comedians is Graham Linehan. How utterly pathetic. https://twitter.com/UnleashedComedy/status/1691476377793409024?s=20 Seems to be organised by/associated with Andrew Doyle, aka Titania McGrath.

What sort of shite journalist mutes all comments that don't conform to her existing view of an issue? Isn't it their actual job to learn about all sides of an issue? Hopelessly naive of me I know.

Oh, no, did they not tell you? That's an awful shame.

Poor Donna. 5 minutes to go...

I don't even have a ticket and I know where it is

RealityFan · 17/08/2023 19:18

The replacement venue also cancelled?
WTF?!
A third venue has had to be found?
WTF 2.0?!

'We are an inclusive venue and will not allow such views to violate our space'

Crikey.

Just to say that although it might be interesting not that keen on an academic study.

What I want, and the world needs particularly the media, is a searchable database that will take you to posts that have actual info and / or links to actual info.

I reckon that less that 1% of what is said on here is reflected in MSM. And great as FWR is, there are other spaces where women's sex based rights are also being discussed, but to the world at large all of this is invisible / unknown.

NicCageisnotNickCave · 17/08/2023 19:08

Best hurry up Donna love, it’s almost curtain up!

IwantToRetire · 17/08/2023 19:03

the site to function as a subaltern counter-public

errrr? subaltern - a lowly army officer? or .....

Professor Sarah Pedersen has made a start on the academic study of Mumsnet. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Politicization-Mumsnet-SocietyNow-Sarah-Pedersen/dp/1839094710

I wonder what the author makes of the men on MN (ooh, that's me! Amongst others).

2nd venue cancelled sadly.

Where's the new one?

Oh, no, did they not tell you? That's an awful shame.

MavisMcMinty · 17/08/2023 18:54

He really does. If he would just leave all the “woke” jibes out, I’d be happy to have a few drinks in the pub with him. I sigh every time an otherwise interesting thought-provoking person chucks in a casual “woke” here and there, I find it distracting and detracting.

I have to say, Andrew Doyle always comes across as very down-to-earth, eminently sensible, highly knowledgeable and very articulate.

Here is something that can be safely argued. Number of nonce/ nonce apologist/ nonce adjacent gender critical feminists = 0. Number of nonce/ nonce apologist/nonce adjacent gender ideologues(central or peripheral) = > 20ish i reckon? That we know about. Hmmmmmm.

Slothtoes · 17/08/2023 18:41

There’s several great PhDs to be written on FWR and it’s role over last 15 years or so

IwantToRetire · 17/08/2023 18:27

We've done the media's job for them documenting it all here over the years.

Yes have always thought a good researched would somewhere be indexing this.

But we know that just as they decide who will have a voice and who want, Mumsnet only gets a mention in relation to biscuits, or when someone thinks that saying the "harpies at mumsnet" is they way to say this is rubbish and should be ignored.

I doubt he would but why the hesitation with the new name?

Is this the same people who insist it’s a marathon not snickers type thing?

I'm just catching up, before i go for a mooch on Twitter.

But it is and always will be a

Marathon

What a strange woman. Useless as a journalist.

But unfortunately all her media cronies aren't pointing this out.

So yet again media figures and gaining together to protect themselves - and are happy to organise a pile on on whoever is the current hate figure.

But thanks for commentary on the interview.

I do worry that the influence of US car crash tv is going to mean we will see more and more of this, and that the media will decide who can or cant have a voice. Let alone anyone speaking up for women's rights.

I totally understand about how wrong cancelling the show is, but because the focus of the reporting it this, no one is saying why should someone by cancelled for talking about women's rights.

We've done the media's job for them documenting it all here over the years.

MavisMcMinty · 17/08/2023 18:19

…It’s what I’d do, anyway. THEN block everyone who disagreed with me.

Journalist my foot. I had a quick look at Twitter earlier and she put out a self-pitying and attention-seeking message about how awful her feed was. A likeminded chum said he was so sorry this was happening to her and she bravely responded that it was OK, she'd muted them all. So in other words, she's deliberately closed her ears, eyes and mind to all the people pointing out that she is sadly misinformed, and why. What a numpty.

I just BET she’s had a good look at all the quote tweets despite herself, through half-covered eyes.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 17/08/2023 18:14

I thought you had tickets donna? If you do then you will be emailed with the location. Unsurprisingly they’re not going to release the location publicly

The Father Ted writer, 55, floundered when he was questioned by Uncensored presenter Rosanna Lockwood, who was standing in for Piers Morgan, on Wednesday night.

He wasn't floundering at all! He was very accurate.

During the segment, The IT Crowd creator made shocking claims about the trans community and frequently talked over Rosanna.

What he said is shocking but non of them are claims, they are all verified facts as he said to her.

At one point, Linehan raised his voice when Rosanna interjected to inform him he was veering away from the subject of discussion to which he snapped: ‘Don’t lecture me.’

She was lecturing him and very badly, he told her she didn't know enough about the subject to interview him properly about his views.

She was asking him about the things he's said and he's repeating the things he's said to her and she's telling him that mentioning known and convicted pedophiles is bad for his reputation!

What a strange woman. Useless as a journalist.
