As the title says, a million pounds is being offered by Distance Magazine https://www.thedistancemag.com/p/we-will-award-steve-wardlaw-1-million?r=uglk&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

"To win the Steve Wardlaw Prize™, an entrant must demonstrate that the cited statement by J.K. Rowling does not involve a rights conflict. That is, the cited statement must materially detract from the human rights of ‘transgender people’ without simultaneously arguing for the rights of another group, such as women, children, or people with faith traditions."

They've named the prize after Steve Wardlaw who I've never heard of but his pinned tweet is an apology to Alison Bailey

We Will Award Steve Wardlaw £1 Million For The Elusive 'Anti-Trans' J.K. Rowling Quote

He has assured us that it exists

Are we allowed to replace JKR's words with our own incriminating strawman to win the prize? Asking for a friend.

Shodan · 14/08/2023 11:07

Bloody hell.

I just trawled through the appallingly-written, hysterically-toned Vox piece that NotTerfNotCis linked to above.

I foresee many, many similarly unhinged people desperately claiming that their 'unique' interpretation of words and phrases is the correct one, to claim the prize.

It makes me very happy, to think of them all tying themselves up in knots to translate things to fit the criteria.

It's simple, her comments are transphobic because she doesn't completely capitulate to men and acknowledge that they are women too. Not accepting that twaw therefore there is no rights conflict is transphobic. Putting up a prize to say you must find a comment which isn't talking about a rights issue is transphoic as there is no conflicting rights issue.

Of course that's only true if you live in the upside down world of gender woo.

Who judges the prize?

Can the decision be taken to an actual court?

Brilliant! After all these years my vigil may at last come to an end!

<shakes knee blanket with excitement>

I'll be sad to see the chair go.

Welcometotheocbitch · 14/08/2023 10:39

Love this!!

ArabeIIaScott · 14/08/2023 10:37

The mythical 'anti trans' statement. A 'dog whistle' that only the righteous and pure people on the Right Side of History can detect and judge.

If she sinks, she's innocent.

If she floats, she's a witch.

TonyHartsGallery · 14/08/2023 10:36

Haha! Fantastic!

ArabeIIaScott · 14/08/2023 10:34

'It isn’t her words, you see, but her meaning of those words and the intent behind them.

She’s a wizard, Harry.
^^
Wardlaw is accusing J.K. Rowling of witchcraft.

Her sinister thoughts imbue supernatural power to her otherwise-normal words, harming the trans people through etheric vibration.'

popebishop · 14/08/2023 10:33

I'll do my own - £3.50 of Tesco clubcard vouchers to anyone who can define 'woman', not including all of us who know it's 'adult female', of course....

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 14/08/2023 10:24

Finally! Someone may attempt to answer this, because it sure hasn't happened on MN despite me asking many many times!

BezMills · 14/08/2023 10:23

yeah I have a spell for how many people will win this prize

Expecto patroNONE

ApocalipstickNow · 14/08/2023 09:54

Well if anyone can decode the cryptic meaning behind her words I still reckon they should win Dusty Bin rather than the holiday.

GladAllOver · 14/08/2023 09:51

"But but but we all know what she really means ..."

Boiledbeetle · 14/08/2023 09:47

This is going to be interesting.

😏

JanesLittleGirl · 14/08/2023 09:44

But dog whistle

NotBadConsidering · 14/08/2023 09:34

Is it a million for each comment or first in, best dressed? If two people claim the same comment at the same time do they get a million each, or split the money. I don’t think they’ve thought this through, it could end up being a very inexpensive exercise…

Helleofabore · 14/08/2023 09:29

I look forward to the prize being won. Let the entries pour in!

She may have said X but she really meant Transphobia.

Besides she’s thinking transphobic thoughts.

Besides she looks transphobic, you know that look? The middle aged woman Karen look.

This post made me realise how irritating Musk’s Twitter rebrand is for everyday users of the English language.😠

TrumpetOfTheMatriarchy · 14/08/2023 08:30

Genius, won't wait with bated breath, need the oxygen too much.

HermioneWeasley · 14/08/2023 08:29

Superb. I’m sure they’ll all be keen to win that prize and donate it to Mermaids. Crack on

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 14/08/2023 08:26

Brilliant.

The TRAs will soon be screeching that it’s not what she says, it’s the tone.

'Yeah, right, no, but what she actually means is....'
