Have we discussed this?
Apologies if so.
Woman Accuses Hospital of Denying Cancer Treatment Over Transphobic Comment (newsweek.com)

So the mantra is LITERALLY accept this ideology or be prepared to die.
And THEY have the gall to call us (insert word for a member of the far-right National Socialist German Workers' Party).

This is why healthcare and this ideology should be kept very far apart. Healthcare is no longer neutral and unbiased.
Believe or die.

Woman accuses hospital of denying cancer treatment over transphobic comment

The woman compared the hospital's display of a transgender banner to a Nazi flag.

I'm quite shocked that someone in receipt of essentially life-saving care has the wherewithal to be so belligerent to the very people providing that care.

MillicentBystandr · 08/08/2023 22:01

“If your comment was specifically referring to comparisons to the Trans flag and not minimising the scale of atrocities committed against female people simply because they were female, a historic and ongoing reality that is so deeply ingrained that it's hardly ever even recognised as an atrocity, I apologise.”

It was specifically referring to the comparison of the trans flag to the confederate flag. Apology accepted.

Oh sorry, you haven’t read the thread. Silly me.

That bit you quoted from my post was a post in a conversation about how it is not a valid comparison to compare the trans flag to the confederate flag.

I didn’t “object to feminists referring to atrocities”, it was more nuanced than that.

I will now pause for you to read the entire thread and reconsider your reaction.

I read the thread. If your comment was specifically referring to comparisons to the Trans flag and not minimising the scale of atrocities committed against female people simply because they were female, a historic and ongoing reality that is so deeply ingrained that it's hardly ever even recognised as an atrocity, I apologise.

But I do not apologise for pointing out that this atrocity against female people bears just as much significance, as much human waste and tragedy, as the ones you did choose to call out.

ReginaRegina · 08/08/2023 21:42

Have to agree she sounds like a piece of work tbh.

You objected to Feminists referring to atrocities. I responded to that.

But since you brought it up, while the Trans flag may not stand for atrocities (though some who stand behind it share horrific fantasies of how they would revenge themselves on those they dehumanise as TERFs) it does stand for an ideology that silences female people from naming the facts of their own oppression, their own reality, their own history, an ideology that seeks to strip us of the very rights and protections that empower us against that history of opporession. So for many women it is becoming a source of fear. The Trans is not female friendly. At all.

Bugger...last sentence should read "the Trans flag is not female friendly"

I don't dehumanise Trans people.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 08/08/2023 21:29

MillicentBystandr · 08/08/2023 21:19

Have you considered the fact that the Trans flag in no way symbolises any of that?

Thank you for saying this @MillicentBystandr

As a black woman I have pretty much stopped posting on this page because there is a huge amount comments like this. See also comparing drag queens to black and white minstrels and saying that transgenderism is the same as trans racialism.

Race and gender are so incredibly different for people who are racialised. I get that white people don't have the experience to understand this first hand but they should understand that it's not for them to make the comparison.

I am also a Black woman :)

CurlewKate · 08/08/2023 21:21

I am as sure as I can be that this didn't happen.

There should be respect from all feminists for the scale of these historic atrocities. Comparisons to them should not be done lightly or as a way to cloak offended feelings in hyperbole.

Have you ever considered the scale of the atrocities commited against the female sex? Or is it hiding in plain sight, too big to see?

She sounds like the sort of gobshite who has family in need of the stately homes thread. Even putting across her own side of the story doesn't help her to sound like a reasonable person who has been badly done by.

Women. Bloody women. Always difficult. I'm sure she was a super Karen going on about something or the other she disagreed with and not in a nice way. Tut, tut.
And the crusaders had no option but to cut her off.

Ever since I realised how trying to stand up for reality can make you sad, mad, bad, I don't trust anyone who calls a woman difficult.

Videos/ hospital records or this is a twist on a twisted tale. (i.e. the new pictures or it didn't happen)

Speaking as someone who is having treatment for breast cancer now, I am so grateful for the kindness, patience and care shown by my breast care team, in the most frightening of circumstances, that frankly the entire team could dress in outfits from Widow Twanky to Willy Wonka, and I couldn't care less.

Their expertise, advice, empathy, and resilience when mine is faltering makes up for any minor discomfort or inconvenience.

Unless there is a huge back story, the lady concerned needs to focus on the essentials like quality of care. Nothing else really matters, especially not a flag.

Wishing the best for a speedy recovery @MintJulia

I agree with rattlerattle that the comparison of trans flag to confederate flag is off the mark.

I personally think it is toxic white feminism to blithely conflate slavery with trans ideology.

@HootyMcBooby76 i mean she literally compared the trans flag to the nazi flag. No matter where you stand on the pro-trans / GC spectrum I think that statement is pretty disgusting and I would be seriously concerned by ANYONE who didn't find that extremely offensive

A quick google shows three other hospital networks in Portland/Beaverton Oregon area that also do oncology: Providence, Adventist, and Legacy. They accept most health insurance providers as well.

MillicentBystandr · 08/08/2023 18:18

She was banned from all Oregon Health and Science University centres. They’re not the only healthcare centres in town.

This is such a fake click-baity title.

She wasn't at all let go for being transphobic, she was let go because she was extremely difficult and refused to attend appointments and rude to staff. And now she's crying about how the evil trans supporting hospital won't treat her because she's GC. Absolutely not true.

you can't spout all that vitriol and expect to have 0 consequences. She can go to a different hospital.

plus the hospital doesn't even do oncology?

what absolute nonsense

Genuine question, what vitriol did she actually spout? She affirmed that she believes in biological sex and was very uncomfortable with the trans flag in a healthcare setting.

And it has already been stated that she was banned from ALL the centres, not just the one she had a disagreement with, so in effect, stopping her from accessing cancer care at any of the centres.

As I read it, the comparison lay simply in the giving of offence.

The point was that both flags are offensive to the sense of being and equity of oppressed groups of people (women and African Americans), do comparisons have to be identical in every respect or in competition? Why is this one so poisonous to you?

Comparison is the fact of considering something similar or of equal quality to something else.

The things compared do not have to be identical, but they do have to be similar or of equal quality to each other to be a valid comparison.

There is nothing similar or of equal quality between the trans pride flag and the confederate flag. One represents a minority demographic that has not oppressed anyone and the other flag represents the white supremacist half a nation that fought a long and bloody civil war to keep Black people in slavery.

There is no comparison between the two, and attempts to compare, and thus conflate the two to push forth a feminist issue are classic white feminism appropriation of the atrocity of slavery and the oppression of Black people, including Black women.

It’s just as bad as the Nazi flag comments Barbera was making in her complaint. The valid concerns of women regarding single sex spaces while a serious feminist issue, is not at all comparable to the anti-semitism that led to the genocide of millions or the racism that led to centuries of race-based slavery.

There should be respect from all feminists for the scale of these historic atrocities. Comparisons to them should not be done lightly or as a way to cloak offended feelings in hyperbole.

That was just a response to MillicentBystandr .

Not really the point of the thread I know.

The French health care system is much better than the UK system and nothing like the US system.
The US system is by no means the only alternative to the NHS.
